thank you for posting as you said you would.!! gentleman.! pure gold this stuff.!! Don Menzza is brilliant as always. I love the album this char came off. Its one of louie's best studio albums.!
Beautiful! I recognize the masterful Joe Wilder on trumpet and the great Larry Novak from Chicago, IL on piano. Thanks again for sharing these wonderful clips.
@buddyrichforever, thanks! =o) Indeed, Don Menza is an outstanding sax player. Can you remember his special breathing technique at Buddy Rich´s Mercy, Mercy, Mercy-Album with his long sax part without interrupting for more than a minute? I guess he blows the last air from his mouth while taking breath thru the nose meanwhile.
I just listened to that solo and Don doesn't use circular breathing on it. By the way I'm a professional saxophonist and have been playing handmade Don Menza mouthpieces on my horns for 35 years. Don IS one of the best, and he kills that Yanigasawa tenor on this video.
Yep! :o) Wilder, Joe (tp) Millikan, Robert "Bob" (tp) Cahn, Danny (tp) Lunetta, Larry (tp) Shaw, Darryl (tp) Besson, Herb (tb) Mosca, John (tb) Anderson, Gordon (tb) Schatz, Jack (tb) Menza, Don (sax) Ries, Tim (sax) Stuckey, Jack (sax) Robinson, Scott (sax) Roccisano, Joe (sax) Novak, Larry (p) Goldsby, John (b)
@buddyrichforever, my favorite album is "Louie in London". For two years it wasn´t available in Germany, someone offered it for about 100 Euros an amazon.. . :)
Wonderful playing by arranger, composer tenor sax star Don Menza that stirs the emotions to another level. Great stuff!
I love listening to the big band and even better with one of the best drummers in the world ♪

MAGNIFICAL DRUMMER ! great drummer, and great musicians !!! I LOVE IT !
Joe Roccisano plays the nice alto sax solo on Paddlin' Madeline, starting at 04:50. Louie Bellson credits Joe at the very end of this video.
