    The most challenging thing ive experienced when hunting public land vs private. Is hunting pressure. I mean there's things you get by with on private land that you can't even think of doing on public. The deer are definitely there they're just highly educated and sensitive. You've definitely got the skills and experience to succeed Rich.👍it'll be a very fun challenge for you.
    Ps stand has a better advantage over the blind on highly sensitive deer. Good thing you bought a very comfy climber. 👍😉

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for the feedback! I am going to make that climber work. I don't intend to use a blind on public land. If I hunt from the ground it'll be au-natural. LOL.

      We have a friend that shot his biggest buck so far on public last year. He said you have to do lots of walking to get where some one else hasnt that year.

    Rich, I have faith you’ll get a nice one on public this year. What a great adventure! As a public land xbow vet myself, I discovered that locating the highest quality food sources (whites, chinkapins, pins and reds including diverse browse along transitions) in March and April to be the most efficient way to begin. Then walk the trails from the high quality food sources back to the bedding area. The trails should be evident. Map it on OnX or Tree Srand app. In late August/early Sept, find if and how the deer are traveling in that area before deciding on where to pick a tree or ambush. It all looks so different come season that’s why I mention it. Good luck! I’m excited for next season!

    Yea, you can pick out the perfect tree and everything then come back to hunt and find someone in that exact tree. If it looks good to you someone else thinks that. Always have a back up plan going in. I learned that the hard way first starting out hunt public.

    I was kind of the opposite. I started on public when I gun hunted and went private when I picked up archery. Im not sure how it is in NE PA but here in Ohio on public land, it's Vietnam 2.0. Once the first few hunters walk in, the deer go nocturnal and the only way you'll get a shot is if someone else bumps a deer and it runs past you. I also wouldnt leave anything on public land if you want to keep it. Guys will rob you blind. I once left for lunch, left my cheap dollar store chair and my day pack sitting in the woods and when I got back, it was all gone. I was only gone for maybe 45mins. After that, I bought a deer cart and used it to carry all my gear in and out. I take everything with me. I hope PA is different but thats just my experience.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  4 года назад

      I think it is going to be very wherever you go but there's always that risk. Unfortunately, I've had stuff stolen on private property as well. But certainly not as much risk I'm sure. There's only one way for me to find out LOL.

    Another great show, I noticed that you talked about using you onx maps. I have it too and I'm still learning. There is a lot of information on it. So I was wondering if you might do a show on it on how you apply it and how you use soon of the keys on it. This is really so great technology and a great tool to use. I have a lot of points I have put on it, however its still to cool right now to get out with the kids and start walking around. Even though the weather is just starting to warm up here. I have a lot places to check out, So i was hoping you could help some of us beginners with onx.

    I just enjoyed your video Rich ..👍.......and after editing it came up with this conclusion..Never, ever climb a CHERRY 🍒 TREE..The bark is so coarse that I could hear you from Mass .Other no no trees are white,yellow birch and ash . Try climbing an ash tree when it’s wet . It’s like a fireman’s pole . Deadly when your coming down let alone landing on your bow . The ideal trees if available are OAK, MAPLE 🍁..You May think OH!! There’s a neat white 🌲 pine until the second day when you grasp hold of the pitch on the way up .. Lastly, what do you do when you find the IDEAL SPOT and the nearest 18 yd shot location is from a straight beautiful ash tree.. Considering your age , agility, exuberance I would stay on my private land . You possibly are opening up a Pandora’s box with our other side of the fence so to speak hunters .. ugh 😫!! This is the THE VOICE OF DOOM signing out with a ALL HAIL BUNJIE !!

    It has been said multiple times. The hunting pressure is the difference. Have a lot of different stand/parking locations depending on pressure and wind. What ever you see when scouting just know that someone else saw it too. I would always go stand over blind but it is area dependent of course but it is good to have options. If you will be using a stand either hangon or climber. Get proficient with setting up and taking down safely. Including in the dark with a headlamp if possible. Personally I would never leave a stand/blind in the woods. If it doesn't get stolen. It is just easier for others to take advantage of your scouting work. You don't want to get to your spot in the morning to find your stand gone. For me it is all about being mobile with my set up because it is always Murphy's law with public land. Be prepared for anything in the public land woods. Also don't discount how much more physically demanding it is to carry your gear and treestand into the woods. That could be an extra 40 pounds or more. Sorry for the long comment and good luck to you.

    Dean Cerny has a very good point. I've definitely experienced people robbing your equipment on private lands, and I can only imagine on public land here in SW Va. Some ways around this are game cart (as Dean suggested), dead sled or switch to tree saddle. The tree saddle option isn't for everyone. I switched last year and not looking back. However in my opinion this is not an option for large framed people. It is certainly safe, but I don't believe a large frame individual would be comfortable.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  4 года назад

      My biggest concern about a saddle is all the knots. LOL. I'm going to figure out the climber and hang on treestands, no problem there.
