I picked up a 2007 VFR800 last fall and absolutely love her. It took awhile to get used to the weight, and top heavy feel, but its so planted on the highway and handles like a lighter bike. With the mods done the fueling is smooth and lots of torque through all the gears. My only disappointment is that I'll never have another V4 like this again... sounds goood!
Bought my first bike about two months ago and it is an 06 VFR800. Big thanks to you and your multiple review videos on your bike that partially influenced my decision. I regularly commute with my VFR 60 miles or more per week day and it's so comfortable, easy to ride, and I love that V4 sound. Thank you for helping me decide on, what I think is, an awesome first bike!
@@jasonl5589 maybe it is a lot of bike for a begginer but I feel it's very manageable. I have rode a few bikes ,occasionally, back when I was younger, just never got around to buying one myself. I feel comfortable on it and when I ride I respect it's capabilities. Shoot I hardly ever full throttle it and hit VTEC. I just let the low end torque do the work haha. In the end I feel like the VFR is a decent first bike, maybe not the best, but it's not hard to get used and I love mine.
I had taken my brand new RC51 to a track day for the first time. This guy shows up on one of these and literally smoked all of us on the track. That was 2002 and I still have respect for the bike and the man on it to this day.
Man I miss my 2006, I'm 52 this year and sold mine after an incident during split laning broke and deslocated my metatarsals it's taken in over a year to recover, sold mine but I'll find another VIFFER in due course and enjoy the most well put together bike ever. Thanks for your videos you're like me a fan of that engine, who isn't if you're over 17?
@PowerOf One I read mixed opinions on v-tec on the blogs and the VFR only site. I cant imagine the bike needing it either but I would love to try it out.
I sold my 07 25th anniversary edition and have regretted it ever since! I had delkevic exhaust, k&n filter and seargent seat. Honda makes great bikes, they do a lot of little things right you don't notice until you own other bikes. Wish i would have kept it. By the way mine topped at 160mph according to the speedometer and like you said it always felt planted to the pavement. Oh yeah, also not everyone has one and you rarely see another one on the street which was a huge appeal to me. Enjoyed the video!
Nice video. The sound of your exhaust is absolutely great. I had a 98 VFR with the gear-Driven cams which also sounded great and now I have a brand new 2015 Interceptor with VTEC. I agree if I could only own one bike it’d be my VFR
It's a blast, with the touring windscreen risers for the bars seat is adjustable, saddlebags, heated grips, phone charger, tank bag and delkavic short exhaust. Fun Sports touring
Great Video, and as a VFR rider myself (97 RC 36/2 with Brembo Sinter pads, so no bad braking at all) the RC 36/2 and the RC46 are one of the best Streetbikes ever built. You get an perfectly balanced bike on which you can ride +250 miles to the track, do a track day and ride home without any flaws or sore back. And you get the greatest thing of them all... That SOUND!!
Matze Munz I also own a RC36/2. The brakes are just fine. When doing an emergency stop on the course (I am doing several riding courses/track days each season) , it will lift its rear wheel even with a pillion. The brakes do seem a little “mushy” compared to my Speed Triple, but I suspect it is the lack of braided brake lines.
I took my 98 on a few track days. You will find that as you get faster on the track the VFR will start dragging hard parts like pegs and the headers where they meet the collector.
Buying an 07 next week. It'll be my 4th V4 bike. Can't wait. I've had a 96 Magna (first bike), 01 Vmax, 04 st1300, and soon the VFR. Becoming quite attached to V4's.
i just bought vfr v tec 2004 and im pretty happy with it so far. Also after watching this clip its exactly what I intend to do with it just cruise on pavaded roads from work to home on summer days and maybe some longer trips around country.
Gixxer rider here. My next bike will be a mid-2000’s VFR800. I’ll keep at least one Gixxer too but for a sport touring bike, the VFR is the one for me.
Last week I finished a 3 week trip from San Francisco to Bangor, Maine and back on a 2007 VFR. 7,197 miles. I had a small tank bag, a 'trunk' bag and matching (hard case) panniers attached. The one and only issue I had was the cross-wind in Ohio and again in Nevada. Cross-wind at 25mph blows the trees around and is brutal when it buffets the bike. You can throw out peace-of-mind. The wind will own your a** in short order when in 4th gear/4500rpm's.
Small world moment here... I've been browsing youtube videos of VFR 800's as of late since I will be heading to Georgia in a couple weeks to pick up a fresh out of crate 2014 interceptor for a smoking deal. As I'm watching the video I start to think to myself how familiar the landscape is to my own area. Just then, you pull out of Bournedale onto Head of the Bay..... Jeez man, I live in Sagamore Beach and travel that way often. Small world. Can't wait to be hitting V-TEC on Head of the Bay myself... lol.
I'm going to look at a '02 today... thanks for this hands on ride video. My '16 VStrom650XA will remain as my explorer-tourer all day back roads camping, and I feel the VFR will be the perfect (for me) all-round the sport-tourer 'get there' moto faster trips on asphalt only. Not as big, heavy and more HP than I need like an FJR/C14 (rode a C10 for 14 years previous to Strom). Fun sunny day go for a rip; or pack up and go across the country.😎
Ride my vfr800 every year on the Dragon, however hard front brake in some of the tightest curves causes rear wheel to lift just enough to lock, causing unanticipated slide, real pucker moment. One who rides this bike as aggressive as I do, remove the link brake system. Was not that hard to modify, using steel braided lines, install rear brake master cylinder from cbr600 F4 and block anti-dive cylinder, completely changes character of bike, been riding mine with no issues for 16 years, never crashed, but fall over now and then when not moving!! It’s top heavy
It is very top heavy so I can see that, glad I have my big T Rex sliders they work great! Good info on the brakes, I don't actually ride my VFR too hard in the twisties so that's not a huge concern for me.. I have multiple bikes so the CBR and RC51 are more my "tackle the twisty" bikes. Which I don't really do on the streets anyway. Ride safe!! :)

They slipped my grasp the vfr, as I went from early blades to blackbirds , but apart from the engine they have things in common with the vfr, namely heavy, smooth , linked brakes and stability,, great bikes cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
I have one from 2008. I bought mine in 2010 with 2000Km. It is a wonderful bike! It is the only bike that the former owners talk about like they were talking about the pet they when they were young. And I know what I am saying, I had 3 dogs when I was a kid. And only one VFR. Ride safe.
“A lot of people think I’m crazy for liking this bike” No one thinks that dude. VFR’s are universally known as fantastic amazing bikes. They’re like the KLR650 of sport tourers, ol’ reliable, fun as hell, solid ass motorcycle with a cult following.
This video has answered everything i wanted to know... I'm living in Vietnam with not-so-great roads (but still pavement) and I've been considering this bike for touring. I LOVE the damn sound, so fucking much. what you said about the comfort, suspension and being planted really sold it for me. I've only ridden one shortly around small crowded city roads but jesus, the speed is definitely there... Also the octane thing is perfect because buying higher octane could be a nightmare here in the middle of nowhere. There's one for sale about 6 hours away, I think I'll go take a look!
Last August I bought a 2008 Honda vfr800a deluxe and love it. The deluxe came with the honda matching panniers, factory heated grips, Sargent seat, abs linked brakes, and on the fly adjustable preload for the rear shock. I could take this bike on a 1k ride.

kellyozore I personally like the Africa Twin but that’s out of my price range for now, here we can buy a brand new 2014 VFR800F that’s been in the showroom for years and hasn’t sold for $8400 USD, they were over $14,000 USD originally...
kellyozore we can get the NC750x and the CB500x. Both are excellent commuter bikes, fuel efficient and relatively inexpensive to purchase. In my state lane splitting isn’t allowed, but I live in a very rural state (Vermont), most riding is country and mountain road riding. Our biggest city is very small compared to other cities and easy to get through. Europe gets more and better bikes then we do. My family is from France actually, Normandy to be exact, my great grandparents migrated here when they were very young.
@@chrispotter2948 Sure man. Got it a year or so ago for $4900 with 25,000 miles on it. Researched a bit, found one in town so I could go see it. Was in great condition so went with it. Loved the paint scheme, had the original panniers and some upgrades like Leo Vince slip-ons and and a Sargent seat. Have been very happy. Basic maintenance is all I have done. Runs like a Honda.
You touched all the points about the VFR. That's it, no more, no less. I'm one of the guys who can have only one bike. I'm currently on my second VFR and rode my first one for 18 years, sun and rain. Never complained. Also the maintenance is brainless and not that expensive. As for the milage... It depends how you work the throttle. Around 5000rpm is not that bad.
Enjoyed the video. I also have one. If it didn’t have over heating issues, I think I’d keep it. It sounds great, the fueling isn’t terrible, and the suspension isn’t terrible. It’s the definition of a compromise bike. It’s still exhausting to ride. LBS (brakes) ftw...!
Yeah, great bikes, I had 1998 model pre VTec and loved it. With stock bars they are a little wristy though. A perfect all rounder and yes they love corners.
Lovely bike, thanks. Hired one on holiday in new Zealand. The v4 howl when the vtec kicks in is glorious, even with stock pipes. Handling is good too for a tourer, had it tipped over on the mountain passes. 😁
I have a 2007 VFR800. Stock except for a Sargent seat, the stock seat is not good after an hour of riding, while the Sargent seat is comfortable all day. I agree with everything you say: it's a great all-around bike, plenty of power, fantastic handling, comfortable on highways. And she's pretty too. I can't think of another bike that compares. (BTW, I get between 45 and 50 mpg regardless of the terrain. Not fantastic gas mileage but not terrible either.)
@@jonathanwoodworth3667 I probably ride like your grandmother, but it does save gas. Actually even when I'm pushing it in the mountains I still get around 45 mpg. I thought that's what everyone got.
On a stock 04, I got mine up to 154. Probably could squeezed a few extra mph out of her, but I ran out of pavement, had to back off as I got into town.
I want one in my stable. I will have one in my stable. Great video. Tanks Safety HeroRR. Lol FYI I do the same. The masses in their cages are pretty dull when it comes to watching out.
So reg rec fried going into shop next week to check stator problem is turn on ignition no probs battery high try to start dash goes blank and no start battery starts draining straight away knock off bike battery goes back up again so the woes of the vfr VTEC but love the bike so hopefully back out again in 2 weeks fingers crossed
Good vid, Honda make's many good bikes, I own a vfr 800X crossrunner 2012 (v-tech) and really love the engine sound. The only thing my bike is not is smooth, its a bit more on the rough side to much engine breaking and bit stiff gearing) but its still ok and fun to ride, i just love it. keep up the good work. cheers.
I am lucky to own a 8th Gen VFR800F. Awesome bike. I leave all my friends behind on mine. Not due to speed or skill. I leave them at the petrol station! VTEC great for mpg! Great Vid.
Top video, looking at this for my first 'bigger bike' coming from a 2014 CB400SF, we didn't get the ABS here. So close, but also like the Sprint 1050 ST(ABS). The sound, even from launch is so nice.
I have 2005 vfr 800, gonna ride it on the circuit (pannonia ring) for the first time. M-Bike got Power Commander, tuned exhaust, tuned brakes, gear indicator, Dunlop sportsmart TT tyres and some design parts like smoked turning lights, smoked windshield, etc... I love to ride it, i do like the cornering, anything but the highways (too boring). Never gonna sell it, even that i have vfr1200f.
Do you still ride around this area? I pass through here on my way home pretty frequently. If you've seen someone in bright hi-viz on an 80's Honda Sabre V-4 done up as a touring bike, that's me. I guess it's your VFR's uncle?
I kind of feel sad that the VFR became a touring bike when back then it was arguably the best racer...it sucks because I now own a 1989 FZR400(R) JDM. I lose!
Because of your History of the Honda VFR, I nearly bought a VFR 800. I didn't go ahead, because I found a low mileage 10kkm '04 Yamaha FZ6 Fazer, that is cheaper to run overall and also has the underseat exhaust going for it. Insurance f.ex. for the Honda would have been more than double the Yamaha. I love the FZ6 though - the engine is the same as in the Yamaha R6, only 20hp less powerful and it does "only" rev to 14k rpm, the frame and suspension are very much up to the task and it sure wouldn't feel completely out of place on the track.
With its activating on only 2 cylinders in low RPM, is it always the same 2 cylinders out of the 4? Wondering if maybe those 2 cylinders would "wear" faster if they just using the same 2 cylinders?
It's not cylinders it's valves. It operates on 2 valves per cylinder before VTEC kicks in, and once it hits it switches to 4 valves per cylinder. All 4 cylinders are always working though, just the valves switch.
I bought a 2002 VFR last weekend and rode it 750 miles home. WOnderful bike.

Another good vid, dude. Thanks for taking us along on a nice ride...
I miss my 08. One of the best bikes I've ever owned. I miss that powerband hit at 6900 and that exhaust note change.
What years had overheated issues?
Yeah, great bikes, I had 1998 model pre VTec and loved it. With stock bars they are a little wristy though. A perfect all rounder and yes they love corners.
I got a 1987 VFR750, I love the damn thing
Lovely bike, thanks. Hired one on holiday in new Zealand. The v4 howl when the vtec kicks in is glorious, even with stock pipes. Handling is good too for a tourer, had it tipped over on the mountain passes. 😁
Looks like a fun bike, it doesn't have to be a screamer to have fun, great sound and it's a Honda so reliability is a plus.
My 02 vfr gets 35 mpg. What do you do?
@@jonathanwoodworth3667 I probably ride like your grandmother, but it does save gas. Actually even when I'm pushing it in the mountains I still get around 45 mpg. I thought that's what everyone got.
Jonathan Woodworth I also only get about 35 mpg, 30 mpg when I ride it like I stole it. I never get 40.
VTEC is so satisfying😌
V Four sounds beautiful!!
The crossrunner 2015 version is so underrated
On a stock 04, I got mine up to 154. Probably could squeezed a few extra mph out of her, but I ran out of pavement, had to back off as I got into town.
Could you post a description of all your mods on the bike please? I've got one and I really love what you've done with it.
I want one in my stable.
I will have one in my stable.
Great video. Tanks Safety HeroRR. Lol
FYI I do the same. The masses in their cages are pretty dull when it comes to watching out.
Traded my zx6r for a 2009 vfr. Best grade ever. Way more comfy and still have good power.
I wonder if you can lock the vtec like you can on the car engines
Owning 5th gen VFR, I can confirm that its super nice :D
How often do you need to bleed the brakes? Ive just fitted a black widow exhaust after a year of stock. Sound insane. In love with it all over again.
That engine sounds amazing!
I watched a video of Joey Dunlop onboard one of these racing around the Isle of Man ,OMG !!!They are fast .
Oh I miss mine a lot. That sound.
Good vid,
Honda make's many good bikes, I own a vfr 800X crossrunner 2012 (v-tech) and really love the engine sound. The only thing my bike is not is smooth, its a bit more on the rough side to much engine breaking and bit stiff gearing) but its still ok and fun to ride, i just love it.
keep up the good work.
cheers.
vfr its nice bike when you open your vtec just only fall in love
I am lucky to own a 8th Gen VFR800F. Awesome bike. I leave all my friends behind on mine. Not due to speed or skill. I leave them at the petrol station! VTEC great for mpg! Great Vid.
LoL!
I love everything about these bikes, good amount of everything 👌
I hear Boston in your voice. Go B’s
Top video, looking at this for my first 'bigger bike' coming from a 2014 CB400SF, we didn't get the ABS here. So close, but also like the Sprint 1050 ST(ABS). The sound, even from launch is so nice.
I’m pushing 70 now so I’ve been playing with installing the Heli Bars on my ‘09 VFR but I’m not sure if it warrants the expenditure. Opinions?
I have 2005 vfr 800, gonna ride it on the circuit (pannonia ring) for the first time. M-Bike got Power Commander, tuned exhaust, tuned brakes, gear indicator, Dunlop sportsmart TT tyres and some design parts like smoked turning lights, smoked windshield, etc...
I love to ride it, i do like the cornering, anything but the highways (too boring). Never gonna sell it, even that i have vfr1200f.
It is a LOT of fun on a track day - but you do notice the weight for the last few sessions.
What are the common issue with these bikes ?
Overheating, getting used to the vtec kicking in, it can kick in during a corner and scare you.
Do you still ride around this area? I pass through here on my way home pretty frequently. If you've seen someone in bright hi-viz on an 80's Honda Sabre V-4 done up as a touring bike, that's me. I guess it's your VFR's uncle?
Rc36 does not break a lot, but you can change pads , then it's better, but remain less than current bikes.
I have one VFR800 2003. Any suggestions for a GPS holder in this bike?
Get a X Grip and Put in Your mobile
It's lighter than my st1100 but makes about the same power. They make a cross. Not sure if it is available on U.S.
Have a 2006 as again thanks for the info brother, Ireland
i know some VFR v-tec fans. These are great bikes.
