*What you build always ends up well built and beautiful* which only proves you don't need the best of everything [like this old lathe] *to make an excellent product.*
Nice lathe,,someone loved it to put a vfd on it,,,I love to buy and restore vintage tools,,,have bought 3 wood lathes and 4 metal lathes in the past 4 months,, sold 3 I restored and it payed for all 7..
A great rebuild. Any way of making it a variable speed? I took note of your electrical skills. That would be the icing on the cake. My first lathe was a Jet midi. You could change speeds with it by changing belt placement. Not great but better than nothing. I’m up to a great old Oliver now. It was made before me and will outlast me and my heirs. It was made in 1943. I was made a couple years later😁😁
The bug is inspecting your work. Well! Very good restoration on that lathe my friend. I,m a carpenter joiner and I do some restoration from time to time. Especially, when I buy a second hand woodworking machines. I,m very fussy on my machines. I love to see them nice and well maintained. Vincent la Valletta malta.
Fine work not just in restoration but as well in beauty. This video would be very useful as a teaching aid. You are to be praised for your talent, patience, and eye for the intrinsic as well as the functional value of this tool.....excellent effort! Greetings from Kauai.
Very nice up grade on the wiring. That is an unusual drive center, for my part of the world. I'm offering this as help, not criticism! All the dowels you put in, did provide alignment but did not add strength. So you could have used a lot fewer. A proper glue joint is stronger than the wood. The mitered frame around a solid wood center will likely fail in the corners if the moisture content changes. The batten on the bottom side would have been better had you provided slots & washers to allow for the inevitable wood movement. I hope they don't split the nicely done wood. The reason is that wood moves very little in length but quite a lot in width, with changes in moisture. Winter to summer conditions will cause the changes in moisture, even if you put finish on the wood. Happy turning.
Can you tell us some details about the Lathe? Like the swing and bed dimension. Is the motor single or three phase, what HP the motor is? Also can you tell us something about the the pulleys and motor/pulley shaft diameter? I am restoring an older unknown model small wood lathe that was given to me for free. It has no motor needs new bearings in the pulley shaft and the tubular bed rod assembly is missing. Most of the lathe is aluminum except for parts like the tool rest etc. Thanks! Great resto-job BTW.
I'm restoring an old Delta wood lathe. the motor mounts below on a hinge. Do you think the weight of the motor is enough to make the belts work or does the motor need to be locked in position?
Very nice. I think I would have shimmed the head-stock rather than mill the tail-stock -- but then I don't have a mill or know what all you checked before milling.
Great job and thanks to the military for the paint eh? Rather you than me tackling the electrics. Always wise to have circuit breakers specially if you have none in the house!😉😁
On the 17th minute where you take all the old contactors and terminals out, there was what I believe a rectifier on the bottom right corner. Which is a diode, so the power can't travel back when shutting off the lathe. Or if it is more than one of these - it could be used to convert AC to DC or act as a soft start of sorts. You did not put it back. Do you think it is not needed or maybe you had a schematics to see what circuit was it in? Anyway, beautiful work. Privet iz Litvi.
How is it that the tail stock was hitting high in relation to the head stock? I would think that wear would cause the tail stock to register low, and not high.
Great restoration of that old lathe (and good turning demonstration). Does the lathe have a noisy bearing, or is the sound from the belt drive? I like the insect at the end!
Stanley Thigpen. I agree. Sumpin ain’t right. That lathe is way too noisy. He never showed taking the headstock apart, so we don’t know if it has ball bearings or plain bushings. If ball bearings, they are really worn or need lube. If bushings they need replacing. Maybe it’s the motor bearings? Also, all of that sheet metal around the pulley assembly amplifies any noise. Remember this is a low end Russian lathe.
That was great! It reminded me of Hand Tool Rescue! (Nice beetle, too.) Question: were you worried at all about lead in the paint you were stripping? Thanks very much for sharing this.

an absolutely superb restoration of an abused and no doubt badly used wood lathe, will give you year's of good useful return, well worth my thumbs up
You are a talented man with many skills and I'm certainly impressed. I look forward to seeing your future projects.
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice! Great job on the lathe and this video. More of the same, please.

Nice work. With all that power that machine will never bog down.
Buen trabajo y buen equipo de herramientas. Saludos.
For ''hobbyist'' you have an amazingly well equipped workshop.!

Amazing performance, i loved the military color, thanks.
Outstanding restoration.
and the video comes to a full circle..great editing......and really liked the electrical sorting...
Beautiful job. Looks like brand new. Wish I had it myself.
Sir, great work and thank you for sharing 🇵🇷👍👍👍👍👍🇵🇷
Beautiful work and tool.

The beetle approves!
Wow a lot of pieces.
I put treadmill motors on all my lathes,,unbelievable power and so smooth and quiet, and the soft start is so much easier on the lathe
Very nice job!
Very good.
Brilliant work mate, well done.
Great restoration - as always 👍👍👍
very nice video
Simonov Artem Russia
beautiful machine, bud! very nicely done.

A nice Job !!!!!
Nice
Lovely
Love ot doing a good job mate.

SUPER!!!!!!

Headstock from a different lathe is my guess.

THE BEST!
Awesome job...! I will like to know where can I get the stamp than you are using to put you brand ? Thank you
Thank you. This hot stamp was made for me at one of the factories in my city.
nice
That was great! It reminded me of Hand Tool Rescue! (Nice beetle, too.) Question: were you worried at all about lead in the paint you were stripping? Thanks very much for sharing this.
Thank you sir, I didn't know about lead in the paint.I wore a mask. Next time I'll better think about safety.
very nice. does it only run at 1 speed?
Thanks, there are two speeds
Beautiful! How do you pay your Q.A. inspector?
Very good keep it up man :)
Great work, bravo. The bug was helping you this whole time? :)
Thank you. I had couple of them, I like these bugs, these weeks they are everywere and they bring me nice mood! :)

How many prices for lath machine
how you change the motor of 3kw to 1 kW ?
