    Video was well done! When I roll in to car shows with my *Duster,* it's most ALL the time the only one there. Even *Mopars* as a whole are not all that common around here, but *Dusters* seem to be even RARER in this neck of the woods. Thx for posting!

    The first one for $2800 is my absolute dream car... Just as simple as it gets... 6cyl, collum shift auto, no power steering, no power brakes, non AC, as pure as pure can possibly get, perfect....

    You did a good job of an overall view of the Abody's. They are really getting recognition now so the prices for something other than a basic Duster are now rarely mild and mostly wild....

    I LOVE dusters so much, definitely in my top 5 dream cars actually, they're just for me, everything is perfect about them, it's everything I love, it's how I like my cars. I also like how they aren't over the top and too fancy, but not crappy, I want one in plum crazy, with a hood scoop, the decals, and that small spoiler (all factory)

    My second car in 1977 was a yellow “ triplex” duster 318 automatic. White interior, white vinyl and white stripes. In 79 I bought a 76 triple black duster from original owner not one ding on it. 318 , 3 speed stick every option available. I gutted drivetrain and replaced it with a 1970 340 4 speed posi drivetrain. I put taxi cab hubs on steel rims. It was s sleeper. Motor had 501 purple shaft grind, 11.5 pistons, Edelbrock LD340 intake, Holley 750 double pumper. Doug Thorley headers and glass packs. God I miss her!

    I had a 70' Duster ,and a 72'Demon they were excellent cars,would race them almost every Saturday night. I built the Demon with the 340 into a monster! Highrise Manifold, 650 Carter Competition Carb,11.5 to1 pistons 3/4 race cam.Dart aluminum heads...I had to upgrade Everything!! Posi rear out of a 66' barracuda, an A-727 Trans out of an older Chrysler.Had a street/strip kit put in, with a high stall torque converter. Solid motor mounts cause I kept snapping the rubber ones!! Dropped a driveshaft till I upgraded the u-joints too!! Man was that a sweet build. Sold it, regretted that ever since Great memories though. 😎👍

    I had a chance to get a 1970 valiant duster from the junkyard about 7 years ago that had some pretty body rot around the rear window glass, they wanted $700 for it and it was a slant six car but unfortunately no title so I walked away for a couple days to think then I decided I was going to buy it and figure out how to get a replacement title for it but when I went back it was gone! ever since then I've had a hard on for one of these cars!

    One thing you missed on the engine swap is the drivetrain for the inline 6 is typically not set up to run that kind of power also the coil over rear end is replaced by leaf springs as cost savings.

    • @IMRROcom
      @IMRROcom 4 месяца назад

      Mopars do not have coil over rear suspension, torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the back. Also the mopar leaf springs have the rear end mounted off center on the springs.

    Just Say No to long tube headers on A Body Mopars. One of the tubes on the left side has to hang under the steering linkages and it will bottom out and dent, eventually tearing a hole in it. Spend the money and go with the shorties.

    My first car was a 1970 with a 340ci 4-speed and 3.91 posi, with the rear wing and 71 grill.
    I rebuilt the engine twice, it had a monster cam, double pumper, and headers, and was fast and loud. Great car at the time, I wanted something different.
    I have seen very few of them for sale, never seen one like my 70 for sale locally.
    I don't think I'd buy one, I like smaller cars these days, and my headers on the drivers side where a total pain, there was no way around the steering in the way. Maybe today someone could change the steering I guess. My clutch pedal pivot broke a few times also.

    For everyone’s info, a good low mile G3 Hemi or crate are the same as any LS now. Hemi crates are cheaper than LS crates at the same Hp. Cheap JY LS or Hemi engines are usually garbage so be careful. Use reputable companies like LKQ. Pay the extra and know it’s a good engine. And spend on aftermarket pistons and etc if you plan boost. Don’t be that guy that blows up on tbe track.

    1972 Duster 340 here. Don't believe the 72 or 73 340 didn't pack a punch. We dyno'd this stock engine at a very healthy true 290 bhp and 320 lb tq--straight from the factory before making mods to it.

    Skip over the cars of the 70s? Maybe from 1974 onward, but 1970-1973 are some of the most sought after Muscle Cars ever made.

    I plan on putting a new ram ecodiesel v6 in my duster. My car is a slant 6 too, might rebuild the motor and see if I can sell it to a museum or something like that. I'm going with the diesel for fuel efficiency purposes mostly, but 480lbft of torque and 280 horses is just fine for me. I'm gonna drive mine every day. The reason why these are so cheap is quite honestly, they made over 1.3 million of them from 1970 through 74 and that didn't even count 75 and 76.

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 5 месяцев назад

      You might want to rethink about putting a ram eco diesel in that car because they are having a ton of reliability issues with those engines with many that go bad before 100,000 miles plus with the price of diesel fuel you would be better off using a 318-360 or just swapping in the V-6 that's nothing more than a 318 with 2 cylinders chopped off that can easily run well over 200,000 miles & there are performance parts available for them if you want to upgrade them.

    Keep in mind that they are cheap in some cases not all the time, and they are cheap because replacement parts are not available. Restoration on a A-body Plymouth is not cheap in 2024 it wasn’t cheap when I had a 318 71 duster in 2006.

    Permit me, I'm just going by memory, but I think a Duster was considered a compact car. There were subcompacts smaller, and others bigger. Today's standards for sizing cars is different than 1970's era. In fact, I think I remember Plymouth advertising that Duster was #1 selling compact car 2 years in a row.
    Back in the day I had a new '76 360, with white interior, buckets and auto tran on the floor console. Powder blue with white bodystripe and white canopy vinyl. When I hit the lottery, I'm going to re-create that car. Ha!
    Now I have a 73 Dart Sport 340 and a 75 Dart Sport 360.

      Yes it is a compact car. That is the way my tittle list it. I can legally park in those compact car spots, Just can not get out of the car, the doors are extremely long and actually open behind you.

    I’m not 100% but i believe you may have to change the K-member, to swap out slant 6 for a small block or big block. Also likely the powertrain to handle the added power. Not sure again on the duster but i think you do.

    • @maddenmadness
      @maddenmadness  Год назад

    • @TheDustyaman
      @TheDustyaman Год назад

      You do not have to change the k member. There are motor Mount swap kits from Mancini racing. That allows you to go from slant 6 to small block or even big block. Ask me how I know. I just did the swap from a slant 6 to a 360 small block on my current 74 duster. I did on a separate car a 75 dart sport a slant 6 to a 440 big block. It can be done. You just have to get the right transmission for each engine.

      Slant 6 cars had a different K member (front subframe) than the V8 cars. So to swap to a V8, you either need to swap the K member from a V8 car (big job) or buy the special swap motor mounts. They're not super expensive but it adds to the cost.
