The Golden Ship means you won a free tour of the mysterious Galaga factory which no one has been allowed to see for 45 years except the live-in workers, lead by its eccentric and wacky owner.
Thank you as your comment was right to the point as opposed to the 14+ minutes of my life I would have never gotten back from watching the video. I gave up after 3 minutes. What a frickin' waste. God, just get to the point, already. Again, thank you @IAMTheNiteOwl.
I was doing the no firing glitch as far back as 1982 if memory serves me. I think it was from a game magazine but I got high score on every machine I ever played on after I learned it. -ZAG-
That was bizarre. I used to play this NEW in arcade, so much I'd hear it in my sleep. None of us could even comprehend this, never heard of this till now. Thanks for sharing!
I imagine that there are only a finite number of sprites available to the hardware and the player shares one of the spots with one of the enemies. Something happened that made the "pointer" point to the wrong data (the player ship instead of the enemy ship) but the color palette was set for the enemy ship, which is why the colors are wrong.
Thanks man, I appreciate the video. I've never even heard of this happening before, that's some cool shit, I was thinking that when it got back to that player, you got to play as the golden ship, too bad it didn't happen that way, that could've been pretty cool too.
Interesting. My uncle Ross told me that O.G. Gamer named Button was real good at Galaga. It was mentioned that Button was so good, he somehow managed to get a GIANT Ship. I've always wondered about a "Giant Ship". I once asked my uncle if he meant two ships...he said "There's two ships, yeah, but there's a big ol' Giant Ship. I seen your uncle Button get a HUGE Giant Ship..." I got to find out more about this "Giant Ship". A Golden Ship is pretty cool. First I've ever heard of it. If NEW Glitches and things are still being found out about to this today, then I am even more curious about "the Giant Ship that takes up a large portion of the screen".
There's another very peculiar thing that happens at the end. A bullet comes from off screen and kills him. It's very normal to have a phantom bullet in MAME, but they just pass right through you. That has me very curious as to if this can be predictably reproduced, if it has something to do with the phantom bullet glitch in MAME and/or if that will translate to arcade... so many mysteries!
The inp file is in the description, wolfmame 201 was used when making this inp file. At the time, I believe it was wolfmame 201 compiled from source on Ubuntu MATE (hadn't made the switch to Debian at that point).
Enjoyed seeing that as this happened to me once while playing at a local store as a kid; everyone at that store at that time (except for the owner of the store) thought I was making up a story about the glitch to get attention. The owner was watching me play when it happened and he seemed way more interested in my reaction to the others not believing me then he was in the glitch. Would be amusing if those kids back then run across your video and also see this remark. I believe it was 1982 and the shop was called "The New Fantasy Shop" on the North/West side of Chicago when I experienced the glitch first hand.
This just happened to me my girlfriend plays galaga a lot, but she doesn’t use the double ship at all. I think this only happens if you do and if you die with both ships on the same stage
Ah good ol' PC Beach, I'm from Graceville but when I was in the army, I would tell everybody that I was from Panama City because I got tired of trying to explain where the hell Graceville was. I'm pretty sure everybody from small towns did that though.
It’s intended to show you the way to getting it from the start to finish. One thing he could’ve done is say some kind of time stamp to go to if you want to see it.

Was he wacky, or was he Wonky?
For people short on time, the Golden Ship happens at 14:48.
God bless you
Thank you for the tip. The ship isn't on the screen too long.
Thank you!!

Thanks!
The video that caused all the enemy ships to stop firing was more interesting.
I saw that. I wish I could try it. I use to turn over Galaga all the time as a kid.

I feel a bit like that guy who goes 'there's a golden ship glitch coming up if you want to see it'.
I'm very good at Galaga and this is the first time I every seen the golden ship.....wow.....and I have been through all the stages and never saw this.
I remember that high score music playing and all the kids taking off back home late for dinner.
14:38
Thanks, saved me the trouble of watching 14 mins of intro,
Not all heros wear capes
The video where they got all the enemies to stop firing was better.
Thanks

That happened to me before on the galaga/ Mrs. Pacman 20th anniversary arcade machine

I really like the sound when you get abducted or captured in the game! It's the sound from the DS version!
This happened to me earlier and i had to look it up, had no idea it was so rare
16 minute video that could be summed up in 2 minutes.

I know in Galaga '88 you could get a larger triple ship. Is that what you’re thinking of?

Thats common for the bee on the far left to shoot bullets from both sides of screen
That’s when the game cheats.
Directly after the Golden ship an enemy ship runs right thru the player ship at the bottom right corner with no effect?

Huh, that’s interesting. Never saw THAT HAPPENED before, I have the game on my PlayStation 5, and I haven’t seen that before… like, ever.
also at 13:24 missiles disappear in midair
Nice catch!
No joke this happened to me but the ship was purple and the text said Ready and the game completely froze and the machine had to be restarted
I agree cause it happened to me on a couple of the original arcade games way back then
I've seen this glitch before. Cant say that I have video proof but it does happen as I play Galaga in mame a lot .
This just happened to me my girlfriend plays galaga a lot, but she doesn’t use the double ship at all. I think this only happens if you do and if you die with both ships on the same stage
Back in the early 90s I don’t know how many quarters I put in the Tron game???
Cool , I'm now playing Galaxiga
OMG! I watched it til the end :(
Whenever I try to play this game enemies, just straight up, start swarming down forever It’s unfair. I blame it on Namco.
I also saw a video that showed a trick that'll make the enemies stop shooting.
Doesnt that mean that you shot the ship that was carrying your ship? And now your ship is an enemy?
Getting on the ground floor #70 subscriber. Thanks from Panama city Beach, FL

Idk but I sometimes when I used to play galaga on my plug in play it glitches out
So, what causes this seems to be a mystery…?
It happened to me a very long time ago mine was on the arcade game
I seen this before when I played galaga
All that for just that?
Love your cap :P
You took way to long to show it
It’s intended to show you the way to getting it from the start to finish. One thing he could’ve done is say some kind of time stamp to go to if you want to see it.
He put it in the description
Can someone name the time the Glitch happens ?
