I want to be some kind of engineer when I'm out of high school, and let me say your shop is incredible. I did something similar with an RC plane, but with a lot less tools (and sadly functionality). keep up the good work this is super entertaining
yeah all I have is a homemade thermite forge, soldering iron, hot glue gun, and a bunch of screwdrivers. soon I'm going to be able to afford a new grinder.
One huge advantage you could do is add an extremely large lipo battery put up front not only will you get incredibly long run times but the added weight will help keep it from hopping as much giving much more control.
Honestly crazy how sum people can just take something apart and rebuild it from start and make it better than before and know exactly what their doing the whole time and have it built in their head before they do it just amazes me
I bought a Heng Long Salina rc boat so I could gut it and fit a 1100kV outrunner, new prop shaft with a 32mm prop and rudder. It is a great planing hull on 3S. An X32 prop makes it skip across the lake. I have a toy boat salvaged from the boating lake which has a 3000kV inrunner, an X30mm propeller, an offset racing rudder and turn fins.
Nice job! Cool to see true rc enthusiasts still making when shelf boughts not available. The shots of the cabin cruiser , plowing slow up that river pond at the end was really cool, and real looking. Enjoyed the vid
Mark Carr s I agree SO much. It really bothers me how a thirteen year old kid can have better grammar than someone 3 times their age these days. ARGGGGGH!🤣
LoL, yeah I know, but I still wonder what the cost was, because: I did it myself though with one of those Victory EP boats. I Pulled the gear, made a mounting plate and fixed an aquacraft outboard to it, connected a steering servo, put in my own receiver and an esc and 8 NiCd cells (yes, NiCd`s) ended up in there, but it weighs a ton (still have it). But with that setup it had VERY scale performance, and since its around 70cm, weighing that much and having that scale performance (and handling) made it an absolute BLAST in the ocean :D She`s stationary now, I burned the wires from the esc to the motor and the driveshaft in the outboard is barely moveable :/ Can`t get the shaft loose and don`t know a solution. The new gear is lying around in wait for me to fix the outboard hehe. Oh, and planning to add so much weight both inside the hull and to the stern I also reinforced the inside of the hull with fiberglass and molding epoxy. Next time I`ll just build a boat from scratch like I always have :p
I am new to the r/. I recently finished a 15-20 year old Dumas kit of a 1930 Chris Craft. There was a motor #2025 or a 5040? The boat is VERY heavy, with a sub planking, and mahogany planking, fiberglass, about 5 layers of epoxy and varnish. It uses the big r/c truck batteries. The propeller is about 1 1/2", the propeller shaft is 3/16". The boat pushes thru the water, makes nice wake, but will not get up on a plane. Any suggestions for a motor with torque and rpm that will make it scoot?
Dick Russell Thats a beautiful vessel :) You're using LiPo right? And if you want more speed, look into changing the prop. Might not look 100% scale on land, but a higher pitched prop will do a lot as far as speed is concerned. Motorwise there are SO many options you'll have to do some checking and balance your performance and runtime, but I would definetely look into a higher pitch prop first, you might get off very cheap 👍
looks so fun. i used to love drving RC boats when i was a kid but they were really crappy back then, cool to see how fast you can go now with new batteries and motors
This was actually a pretty fun video and a cool idea, you've inspired me to do the same and I hope you make more. However, part of the problem is with your propeller. You're using cleaver propellers, or surface piercing propellers, and you have them fully submerged. Those types of propellers should only pierce the water and be about half under water like on the Barbwire boat you guys have. I recommend you use chopper style props which are meant to be submerged fully under water.
I remember when I had a car and my brother had a boat. We were driving them around and the signals somehow swapped and I started controlling his boat out of nowhere. Sadly, he drove my car into the pool and I cried for hours. That’s like one of my only reallllly young memories in my life.
Awww Yiss! I think I may tackle that for a future project. I may even design a 3D printed hull and make it unsinkable! Would be fun to drive in huge waves.
I save up wine corks, then fill a plastic bagful, tie it off and glue it into my nosecone. That way when my boat inevitably rolls over or gets swamped and fills with water I can be a little more relaxed about swimming out to retrieve it. I suspect that a quick squirt of expanding polyurethane foam into the bows would do the same job.

How to make a $22 RC boat perform like a $100 RC boat for just $300
Yes I know it was probably a lot cheaper than that. Seems a lot of work, though. I don't know if scratchbuilding is actually easier.
Erik Warnes but, the idea of it is the best part. also they're like the boat version of a sleeper car.
allthings possible i can definitely see that. I like the mod, even if a scratchbuilt or a kit would make more sense.
