  • And so we again return to Project Old Grey, a journey to fix up my dad’s old 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Full series here: • Everything wrong with ...
Last time, I started working on fixing the grinding rear brakes and nonfunctional parking brake. ( • 2002 Chevy Silverado r... ) In today’s video, I’ll try to wrap up this brake job and get the truck back on the road. Of course, it won’t go smoothly! Rust has led to a snapped parking brake cable. But with a little gumption, hopefully we can get past it.

More about asbestos risk while changing brakes here: www.epa.gov/asbestos/current-.... Asbestos exposure is very bad. It killed Steve McQueen, for example. While the risk of being exposed to it while changing brakes is minor "in theory," it's still possible. Fear of that is legitimate and nothing to be ashamed of. If that's the case for you, please have no shame and take your brake change projects to a mechanic instead. Whatever works!

i heard if only one side of the pads wears down it means that your brake cylinder/piston is stuck. meaning it doesnt retreat into its housing anymore, so one pad is in contact with the disk after braking

Makes sense. Gotta check back in a couple months and see how it’s doing. Thanks!

Maybe spray a good layer of Owatrol Oil on the frame to prevent further rust. Now it looks like just corrosion on the surface.
I bet you spent more hours on google than the motor got horsepowers.
    Enjoyed watching, keep it up!

Hadn't heard of Owatrol. Looks interesting. Will investigate further. Thanks for the tips and kind words! Take care, as always!

Your truck seems to be progressively lightening itself, as rust flakes onto the garage floor. Less weight means your brakes work better, I guess.

Yeah, that’s it! Gradually cutting weight for better performance... 😆
