- Niki de Saint Phalle was a French-American sculptor, painter, and filmmaker. Widely noted as one of the few female monumental sculptors, and her sculptures are often very recognizable from their explosions of color and voluptuous feminine forms.

She is my fave contemporary artist. If you are in NYC she has an exhibit at MOMA on display until September 2021.

The tarot garden is a self portrait of each of us. It is a self portrait of the human psyche itself regardless of time period, culture or place, bc the Keys (ATU Major Arcana Cards) are archetypal energies broken and fragmented through us all. The rest of the deck contains the entire rest of the universe from the physical to the emotional, but the stages of human evolution in consciousness is reflected in sublime perfection in the 22 Keys.
Some of the documentaries of her have been negatively biased. This one was leaning toward a slight positive bias of her, while the truth lies more in between imp, this is still the best done documentary of her life and work. I still wish someone would do a true esoteric guide through all the structures, as I haven't found one that goes far beyond regurgitated tarot card definitions...but I hope one day I have the chance to travel there and make that video myself. Especially her high priestess and hermit are undeniable examples of a very profound deep esoteric understanding of the archetypes either consciously or subconsciously as an artist often does.

I admire Niki de Saint Phalle. In Japan you can find one of the Nana statues in the Hakone Open-Air Museum and some of her works in Naoshima, known as an art island.

There's a project I have in mind, and would love to focus on Niki de Saint Phalle, at least for a bit. Other outsider artist too. It's not quite there yet...but...bois, girls, and enbys....the Tarot Garden....I think there may be something to the age old saying that everything is a Jojo reference. I' m curious what about her work affected people personally? Different people come across different artists at different times (much like any discipline, we get there, when we get there, including what many would consider basic concepts today.) thus I am not the same person who first ran into this artist, as I ran into her work in person by accident not too long ago, with a different perspective. If there' s anyone who somehow makes it through this comment, and wants to say something...what changed you, or how did you change since you first found her work, by accident or design? Do you see her work differently as you are? Why do you look at the makings of Niki de Saint Phalle?
Hi, I've visited the tarot garden like 3 days ago. I choose to go there because I was curious, I love tarots and I felt that was something I needed to see. Both my parents and the parents of my boyfriend wanted to visit it. My boyfriend was not so convinced that it was for him. When we arrived there it was, immense, you can see her work when you are at the base of the mountain. We thought it was more small. I didn't know her or her work. I'm not a fan of Gaudi work so I was completely took out of guard. The colors are really amazing. In some ways it remember me about the general idea of Italy other countries have (I'm Italian) but I think that this view is realistic now.
I felt wonder, sorrow, nostalgia and even an unsettling feeling like I wasn't supposed to be there (in particular in the "the temperance" and in "the hunged man") and guilty about our justice system ("the justice")
I was crying for her pain, because it felt really close to me even I didn't know her and even I've never felt something like this in a museum. It was unexpected and it was like she was there saying "hey, look at this. I am this. This is me. I'm here so you can feel and see what I am. What we are."
It was a spiritual walk through her life. It was peaceful and violent and unsettling and there were so much love and pain.
I didn't know her, so, when I exposed my feelings about the garden at my boyfriend, he was shocked to realise that he felt that way too. And even if he doesn't like the expression and the provocation on the hanged man, he FELT her.
While we were visiting the place, there were some people that weren't feeling anything. Some people didn't want to know, even not trying to know. Some people that were screaming or that were taking photos of the temperance (it's like a tomb, with photos of "family" and candles, I felt it was disrespectful. Like going to the cemetery and take a photo of a tomb because you liked something on it.)
But now thanks to this video, well, maybe it was something she wanted. That place now live. The little city is full of people walking, taking photos and screaming and laughing with joy, and obviously stubborn people.
I wanted to know more about her. And I feel that her revolution only started and it's time that her work and philosophy begins to rise again now. Expecially here in Italy, full of beautiful things and serpent people.
