i wanted to believe he artificially made changes post recording for the longest time, but recently have been seeing fairly good attempts at the song in more believable acoustic recordings, so am starting to just accept phyxinon's technique is impeccable to that degree. his fingers are also really long which help when doing the Bb major broken chord run in the right hand at 7:28 . another thing i noticed is he has a distinct style of arrangement, which tend to capture the "atmosphere" or the "feeling" of the original soundtrack, in contrast to Animenz's more pedantic choice in harmony in order to create an accurate representation of INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENTS. phyxinon often ignores little things background instruments do in favor of a more "wholistic approach". quite refreshing to be honest
phyxinon definitely does some post editing in at least some piano covers (e.g impossible right hand jumps in mid section of entrance), but honestly most pianists who upload midis of their performance do it to some degree. once you start looking for them its quite easy to spot them. i also think that phyxinons arrangements are nothing short of genius with some really creative (innovative?) approaches. of course phyxinons playing itself is also very stylish and beautiful
@@HK_BLAU yeah i agree. it's more so his older videos now that have obvious post recording edits. one time he artificially made a crescendo in one of his earlier Anima recordings. it sounded funny. but over the past year or two his recordings have been genuine I believe, and there are still many pieces he played during that time that demonstrate his great skill.
@@HK_BLAU oh no, both his entrance renditions are possible. i did it myself. but really really really damn hard, especially the ending chord spam and insanely fast arpeggios, and the "entrance" so to speak, with fast octave jumps in both hands and spaced far apart.
I would absolutely love to see you play that arrangement, it does seem like a ludicrous piece to have on your wing. Thanks for reviewing my most favourite piano performance.
I think a huge part of what makes Deemo songs so beautifully composed is just how important music is in the story itself, not just as a rhythm game but also the symbolic meaning behind the piano etc. Phyxinon's Marigold arrangement is wonderful and her performance is stunning to see, it's one of my favorite arrangements of all time. It would be nice to see her cover the other songs from the Magnolia series too in the future.
Man I've been trying to figure out a lot of these piano playing techniques for the longest time and you're just giving the secrets out for free! Thank you!
YEAHH Phyxinon's arrangements are incredibly challenging technically but SO clean! And your advice regarding those fast repeated octaves definitely helps, will be keeping that in mind when I practice hehe :,))
Thank you for the detailed review! I'm planning to learn piano when I got the money from work in few years, but this helps with overall perspective! If you guys have suggestions about what should I learn beforehand, do tell :) Anyway, I think you shall review Rosseau too!
I've always been a fan of this arrangement from Phyxinon and I think you've done a fantastic job here in isolating and elaborating on the insane techniques behind it. Would love to hear your take on his (second version) Grand Escape cover and his masterful execution of its several layered voices. Keep up the good work!
At the very least it was sure interesting to see how much goes into piano playing when you talk about how Phyxinon played and arranged that, with a cheap over a decade old 61 key keyboard and 6 days into playing on it I'll have a lot of catching up to do whenever I get a proper instrument since its not just pressing the keys at the right time xD
I am sure that Phyxinon is a great pianist and I'm not here to throw shade, however I simply do not believe that their performance video featured here is real. It makes me feel just a little bit crazy to be the only person who thinks that it is sped up, not to mention seeing at least one jump cut in there.
(timestamps are referring to the original video, not this one) 1:30 is the most noticeable example of teleporting hands although something weird happens at 2:06 as well. Although its hard to say if this was a hard cut or just the overall effect of the video missing a whole lot of frames because of the fact that it's just been sped up. As a result of being sped up, many of the original frames are missing.@@skiyegg
I've listened to several of deemo's song piano covers, but when I listened to phyxinon's interpretation of Marigold and Anima, I was just scarcely believe it; it is really good, amazing performance, though I wish it wasn't manipulated. I want to be proven wrong, but the odd camera angle, peculiar depth of field, and hand movements that look too jerky and solid are all too suspicious for me. I even tried to play the video at 0.85x speed so it could look more natural. I didn't find any disclaimer that the video is speeded up; not only that, I didn't even find a single comment regarding the speed up, strange :/
Phyxinon has some really crazy arrangements. It was very interesting to see you break this down
And doing justice for her as well haha

I've loved Phyxinon's Deemo arrangements for a while and I'm so happy to see someone finally talking about them!
ふぃくしのんさんだ!マジでmarigoldはやばい...entranceやaragamiもエグい...
Can anyone trasnlate this comment? I wanna understand what they said about the song
@@mthanhgfd it's Phyxinon's music! Marygold that he played is amazing seriously... Entrance he played and Aragami are amazing, too.

Absolutely love Phyxinon and their arrangement of marigold. Great video providing insight into how it was played.

Great review as always, hope to see more review of Phyxinon's covers in the future from you
Moreover, I heard that Fucinon plays the piano as a hobby.
I can't hide my surprise that she can play this level of music as a hobby.
