This event was *crazy* in the original campaign. This was a little different from the show, but in the campaign, VM spent YEARS in Emon. They had *employees* at the keep. They saved Uriel personally a few times and knew his family, and Allura (the lady wizard that was protecting Uriel's family) was a recurring NPC and close friend of the group. Gilmore was *basically* Vax's primary love interest until he started falling for Keyleth. And then Matt *burned it all to the ground* in one incredibly tense game session.
When the artists were asking Matt Mercer on how to draw the dragons, Matt said that Thordak(the red one) was the Lion of Dragons, Raishan (green poison lady dragon) was the Serpent of Dragons. Vorugal (the white/ice dragon) was the Bulldog and Umbrasyl(black/acid) was the Florida Dragon 😂
whats most terrifying about these dragons. is that in the world of dnd, the older a dragon lives, the stronger it gets and more abilities it gains as it matures. from learning languages, to even learning magic. and as we saw with Vorugal (White dragon) Blindsight, and the ability to detect presences. these are what we call Ancient dragons. and each one could count as a final boss for some short dnd campaigns. we get 4.
Grog's axe-shattering attack on the Green Dragon Raishan comes direct from a hilarious moment in the campaign. Grog opened up the combat round by rolling a 19 for his attack, which is usually a pretty good roll... except that Matt the DM informs him that it isn't good enough to even damage Raishan. Cue panic at the table!
5:20 They have her talk in 3rd person because shes not present at the end when Thordak names the other two as he gives them orders. Hmm...wonder where she went... 7:40 The royal family were with Allura earlier when the black dragon toppled a tower down onto them
"Calamity" that.. is a very very very interesting choice of words. Because in the far distance past, thousands of years ago, The Calamity was just an apocalyptic series of events
They're letting some humans survive so they can be slaves and do stuff for the dragons that the dragons can't be assed to do. Dragons are pretty smart. Having a few farmers around to give them tribute is way easier than hunting.
there had to be a bit of a gap in between arcs - Percy was able to build a new gun and design the gem he's put in the hole in his hand. not a lot of time, not enough time. but welcome to the Chroma Conclave arc, which should be two seasons of epic-ness.
Oh there are plenty left in Emon. The battle in this episode killed a ballpark estimate of 75-90,000 people. But Emon was in the several hundred thousands prior.
Can't remember if I dropped the link in the comments in the first season episodes but critical roles RUclips channel has an 8 minute video about the history if the world. Vasselhiem is the first city in this world and the only one survived an apocalypse, they literally had evil gods and their forces assault their walls. It doesn't give any spoilers for this campaign or the second that is in production at Amazon and gives you a pretty good explanation of the world.
Woo!! Strap on/in (please watch Scanlan's recap of S1, it's worth it). 😂 And S3 is definitely in the works but a release date hasn't yet been announced, Critical Role team has been doing a LOT!
everyone thinks they only just got back xD it's actually been a while, not only is Pike back, and has been back(the group came back through transport via plants and Pike was many days journey to the closest everlight temple) Percy had time to build a whole special glove and fill the whole in his hand, were looking at minimum they've been back a couple weeks XD
Yep, in the game they spent 2 weeks in Whitestone helping rebuild leading up to the Winterscrest festival (yay holiday episode). Then a few days in Emon dealing with a few things that were either cut (Riskel Daxio) or moved to later in the series (Dr D and co. 😉)
Made me so happy to see this pop up at the top of my home page today. LFG!!! Chromatic Dragons are Red-Fire, Blue-Lightening, Green-Poison, White-Cold, and Black-Acid. Blue was an Adult Dragon and was taken out already, the rest are Ancient Dragons, which are sooooo much more powerful than just an adult. Usually they do not get along and are jealous of their territories and treasures. They usually don't even like other dragons of the same color, so this is incredibly concerning.
So happy to see you coming back to Vox Machina. As good as the first season is, they really pick their game up in season two. Excited to see you react to it. From your opening, Chroma Conclave is a title sepcific to Critical Role, but traditionally the two main dragon types are Metallic (eg Gold Dragons, Brass Dragons etc) and Chromatic (Red, Blue, etc). The title is obviously a play on tue fact this group has one of each Chromatic type. Dragons are also typically so ego oriented they generally don't get along very well. As for the twins, don't feel bad, everyone even Matt used to mix them up occasionally in the early days (hence Scanlan's joke in the intro song in s1e1) Vax, Vax'ildan, is the male twin Vex, Vex'ahlia, is the female twin. You got it with Brimscythe, and they did klleave hints in s1e2 for those of us who knew, he was also part of this group. He is also the reason the military was not prepared. Being the General, he was deliberately weakening the army over time. Raishan rexognised Keyleth becausebthe dragons had communication stones, which is where Raishan saw Keyleth back in Season 1 when they first entered Brimscythe's lair. There was a fair amount of foreshadowing here you picked up on, looking forward to seeing you react as it plays out
Yay! Insta like! Glad you're back on with this. I got a notification for episode 4 TODAY and I was like skrrr, reverse, let me back up and start with episode 1.
Dragons are sort of in the middle of a civil war. A very slow moving chess game type civil war from a human perspective as Dragons are hyper intelligent and can live for thousands of years. The main groups are the ‘good’ Metallic Dragons(Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, Brass), the neutral Gem Dragons(Amethyst, Emerald, Crystal, +) and the ‘evil’ Chromatic Dragons(Red, Blue, Black, Green, White) These lines are drawn across moral alignments and religion as Dragons have their own very real and active gods. While the Metallic and Gem Dragons are far more cooperative, Chromatic Dragons fight and compete even among their own species except when it comes to mating. Hence why the Chroma Conclave is considered a big deal. For a power reference, Brymscyth(Blue) was barely an adult and he wiped out an army. The remaining Chroma Conclave are Ancient. Ironically, Blue Dragons are the only Chromatic Dragon species with any sort of societal social structure. Thordak’s(Red Dragon),(RIP Lance Reddick) threats were not idle ones. There are a number of species and civilizations that did not survive the last time Dragons ruled. Only remnants and ruins remain.
15:58 All dragons have powerful magic they can cast polymorph to better blend in with humanity but chromatic dragons red, blue, green, white, and black view this as something debasing to do especially red dragons they view themselves as the pinnacle of dragonkind
Dragons horde wealth, that generally kinda is the point. Chromatic dragons like these are the archetypal classic evil fantasy dragons like Smaug from Lord of the Rings. Matt gave each their own personality and desires for a bit of depth but on the whole they are very much still in the classic fantasy vein of just being generally malevolent, prideful, gluttonous and greed driven creatures. Funnily enough given your impulse to loot the chest; when they were on their way to Gilmore's shop they found some thieves that had looted it as people were being forced to ransack the city for valuables to bring to the Red dragon as tribute. They made the looters tell them where all the stolen loot was being staged and it essentially gave the players the choice to go grab the nearby loot before it was taken to the dragon or keep looking for Gilmore. Matt later confirmed if they had chosen to go get the loot first, too much time would have past and Gilmore would have died of his wounds before they found him.
This is out of the blue, but one thing always bothered me about D&D worlds: the men & women of the cloth in these worlds would have no need for faith. They can speak directly to gods. They can perform a dozen or more miracles (as we would see them) per day at will. Every spell those clerics cast is direct evidence of the existence and power of their gods. I always imagined that the clerics of these worlds would be skeptics who see little value in faith.

Ah yes, Umbrasyl..the shitty weasel dragon. Sorry, Florida.😂

3:44 Yes, the voice of Raishan is none other than Kree Summer!
Oh my gosh, I'm used to her goofier voices. She is an icon!
I'm used to her goofier voices, so I didn't notice that it was her. She is an icon!

Lightning, even. ⚡
The irony is Scanlan inadvertently was right, there is someone in Market who might be able to help.

Khary might be done in LOVM, but he'll likely return to voice a character he played at the table during campaign 2, Mighty Nein.
I am so happy you are back with S2! Can’t wait to see all your reactions. Thanks for them.
