    I have a 7 year old 80gb Chinese SSD from AliExpress for my home security Cameras, 4 total & at a time the SSD holds roughly 2 days worth of footage & like a dashcam it deletes the oldest footage & replaces it. It's been running continuously this entire time, about 4 years ago we got a message saying the storage is failing but were going to replace it to a 1tb HHD once it finally did die. Well it's been 4 years. Well over 7 years that means it's done approximately a total of 1,260 full rewrites or 201Terabytes of writing.
    I think it triggered an automatic warning but I am almost certain there is no programmed hard limit on this SSD like on the Samsung ones. I just tried checking though a few video clips (it records 1 minute clips per camera then splits it) & they all load up just fine so I dont think there is any missing or corrupted data. I wonder how long it'll continue to work. We've never even needed the security cameras so if it dies we wont lose anything important so I want to leave it in there until it stops working.

    Especially with SSD one cannot stress enough the importance of a daily back up ! At least with mechanical, we had way to retrieve the majority of the data. As ssd is a complete different way of stockage, it is extremely hard and almost impossible to retrieve everything that 's matter.
    Back up your data on DIFFERENT PLACES EVERYDAY! (and thank me latter) ;-)

  • @Timzart7
    @Timzart7 2 года назад

    I had installed my own SSD on a Lenovo ideapad laptop that was about 8 years old, and when the SSD was probably about 5 years old, one day instead of booting up, it got stuck on this blue screen of death that said it was doing something -- I forget what but that it was recovering -- but it didn't boot up after about 6 minutes of that. I don't do backups, and I really panicked and just shut it down after 5 minutes, and eventually opted to do a tedious Windows procedure where I was able to recover all my data but lost all the programs. It was time to get a new laptop anyway. The data was what I didn't want to lose, so that was a big relief I didn't lose anything, and was able to get all my photos, word processing files, music, videos etc. on to an external drive.
    A month or so after I had my new laptop set up, I wanted to start fresh on the old laptop, reformatting the drive, just to make it useful as a backup computer. So I loaded the original Windows10 and did all the updates, and ran tests on the SSD and it came up that it was still usable, still "80%" good. It worked fine for a few months, and then one day I started it up and I got that same blue screen of death again, but this time I left it on, and after about 20 minutes, it started up fine. If I had done that the first time, just waited, I could have saved myself a nightmare, that cold fear that I may have lost everything on my computer never to recover it. So I've used it for over two years and it hasn't done that again. What happens, I discovered, is sometimes an SSD can fail gradually, with maybe some sectors going bad, and if it lands on one of those it can take a while to work through that bad area of the disk. There are probably other situations where you can leave the computer on forever and it will not recover, like with the black screen of death. So, it's worth leaving it on for an hour or more on the blue screen, if it says it is trying to recover.
    There are probably instances of complete failure though. Anyway, as I mentioned, there is free software you can use to assess the health of an SSD, as long as it hasn't failed completely.

I can not write anything to the drive and 75% of the time I get a blue screen error and then when if I am able to log into my PC then everything freezes and I can not do anything. • @CPUmodder
      @CPUmodder  6 лет назад

      this sounds like a safe mode of the ssd and it is a good thing, this mode lets the data be taken off the drive before it is totally dead. If you have another computer plug the ssd in and copy off your data asap as this mode wont last long, the drive won't let you write to it and that is why your system would be crashing

    Bought a computer off of the facebook marketplace about 3 weeks ago. Over the past 2 weeks my computer has been bluescreening randomly when opening/closing or installing/uninstalling programs. Everything points at the SSD being the issue but I don't know for sure whether it's the SSD itself, a bad cable or a bad motherboard. When the computer boots back up after bluescreening the SSD is not being detected so I have to turn the computer off, wait a good 15-20 seconds and then reboot and it usually detects it again and launches as normal. I took the hard drive out of my old pc which was working and plugged it into the new computer. Hard Drive wasn't detected and when I tried putting it back in the old PC it also wasn't detected. I don't know if that was just a coincidence or if the new computer did something (Not extremely tech savvy). Bought a brand new SSD from Walmart and plugged it into the PC. Was not detected at all so my brother put it in his PC and it also wasn't detected. Not sure if that SSD was faulty to begin with or again if my PC did something to the hard drive when trying to boot up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I own a ssd with only 2 months of run time, only 800gb written on it in its life, when i check the blocks through minitool's partition wizard, the drive seems to be healthy, crystaldiskinfo tells me that the drive has 100% health remaining and the blue "good" sign is showing and yet, whenever i try to copy files over (partitions can be created without any problems and the drive is from 2019, so no warranty is left), the progresbar goes fast, but around the 3gb mark, the copy stalls, it just falls from 40mbps to 0 kbps and just sits there, i don't know what is wrong with this drive, it bothers me because she is almost good as new in terms of data written. My troubled new rig ran into two different 240 g drives that died a very early death. the first, kingston, was practically a POS since its inception and was replaced by the seller. The second, equal capacity, S3+ lasted 2000 hours before I started getting daily SMART daemon emails warning of a mounting number of pending and uncorrectable sectors. Later the root partition went temporarily read only *[lugubrious sound of Hell bells here]* . when bad blocks reached 20 I sacked the S3+ after saving data to the new, larger Samsung 860 PRO. This occurred at about 2500 hours of life and when I reinstalled the dying ssd to save a few more little files I forgot, SMART reported 42 offline uncorrectable 512kb blocks so I guess I was short a few days of a total breakdown. This is my last attempt at SSDs. If this one fails I'm back to HDD drives, for christ's sake. I still have a 20 MB Conner HDD from 1988 that is running with 1 (one) bad block appeared in 32 YEARS. Other drives here on very old machines are running after 20 years and doing fine... My faith in SSD is fading as fast as their blocks. They're fast, but fuck those shits. Even Torvalds lost an entire drive without noticing and he is a Guru's Guru so go figure how much bad this is for us mortals. I only had 2 HDD that failed and they both were battered second hand drives.
    In the last year this machine bugged me so thoroughly because of those crappy SSDs I started getting superstitious. hahahaha. (sad maniacal laugh)

      Age of an ssd does Not really matter (they are hdds) 3 years or 13 years what matters how much data has been written to it
      main killer of an ssd is sudden power loss when data is been written or ssd built in background stuff is running (trim and garbage collection, or on TLC drives the slc cache is been emptied to the TLC NAND) , so ideally its good idea to get ssds that have basic power loss protection so the the page table, only business ssds have full power loss protection where page and data is fully commited before power loss runs out of power (TLC based ssds are more susceptible to power loss failure as most of them use SLC Cache so data gets written to that first then moved to TLC NAND any power loss when that is happening can result in data loss or dead ssd (they do have lots of redundancys in ssds so it's rare when it happens even if you do Pull the power)
      I tend to go with MLC based ssds any way (so samsung pro drives as I can get 840,850 pros for around £50)
      i have only Ever had 4 ssds fail on me
      2 SanDisk ssds whent into Half readonly mode 90% of the data was recoverable as unstoppable copper would pause every time it hit a file it could not copy so had to pause the copy untick the file and resume and it would resume
      one samsung evo 840 (currently dealing with be nice if it is in read only mode)
      and last one was odd one I could format it it work For 30 seconds then it would wipe it self back to factory new state

      not true depending if u have a faulty drive, or if u passed the TBW mark, please note that All SSDS are NOT made equal. also, SSDS technology comparing to SSDS tech 4 years ago Are more reliable
