Congrats on making it through to the other side of that initial learning curve. It's good for people to see this aspect so they have realistic expectations. I've been building for years and I still run into problems sometimes that stop the whole process until it gets figured out. I don't crash as much as I used to, but you're absolutely correct that if you're not crashing at all then you're not pushing yourself to improve. Have fun out there!
Ah yes, the classic tale of the rabbit and the hare. A favorite of mine 👍 For real tho, I've been day dreaming about diving into fpv for years now and I think you have me pretty convinced I need to make the leap
Dude......... dude, let me tell you, this has got to be the best get started fpv video I have seen todate, you actually give an inept noob like myself a glimmer of hope. I'm actually not afraid of the soldering, in another life I was an audio engineer so I can check that box, knowing what to do with the different components is another story but it will come. For now I;ve gotten bind and flys and pulled the trigger on a DJI FOV Drone, just because I thougt it to be kinda cool. I will however when I have time fly my tyro 79 and Wizard and surely will be modding the wizard as time goes by and things break so more, so far an antenna an LED cluster and numerous props but nothing serious yet. Once I have those down (maybe in 2020) I will tackle a full build and get ready to kick ass (probably my own) Thanks for the video it really is uplifting and fun.
Love your FPV series!! It reminds me very much about my experience. Keep on pushing and crashing and repairing! Flying quads is the best thing ever and eventhough it has a steep learning curve it keeps you hooked with every small steps of improvements! 🔥🙌🔥
I am learning FPV myself and it is challenging. Thankfully I found a place to fly that is near where I live. I have been crashing a lot, and made it through two gates today. I try to fly at least two packs a day if I can and I am starting with a tiny whoop, and currently working on a 3" build. I am waiting on a solder tip before I finish my build. My next build will probably be either the HD1 or the CL1 from Rotor Riot, and eventually custom build a frame. I am starting small and working my way up.
youre doing great, obviously gonna be a really good pilot. ps. bit worried about number 1 quad spinning out, its probably and esc, steele uses kiss which i know nothing about. it could alsoo be damage to one of the signal wires to the esc, silicone wires are great but they crush quite easilyand damage the wire without showing signs of damage to the silicone, try spinning up on the bench and wiggling the wires around
i had the same problems with randomly dropping out of the air till i put in a isolating shield between my FC and ESC. there are ones from diatone i think. never had it ever since
Nice man congrats on the first build. Such a rewarding hobby once you learn it all aye. You done a great job showing people interested what it actually takes to make it happen 👌👍
I'm guessing the motors were spinning the wrong way ?Blheli or Kiss ?I'd be curious how many people make that mistake in the beginning,I sure did !lol .Glad you got her sorted out and flying .👍
@@Dylanmagaster. Bro nice vid I know the problem almost every one who uses that specific flight controler and esc has that problem and it's called desyncs and u will cannot repair the FC and esc u will have to buy a new one I recommend the I flight f4 e stack it's a nice stack and if you search on Facebook you will find our Greek community in which they will can help you and it's called fpv racing Greece good luck on your next flight but don't fly over water with fettec 😉
So what causing the flipping problem? The wrong prop on one or more motors, motors spinning in the wrong direction, motor mapping, flight controller oriented differently and not corrected in the configurator? . Build an arborist slingshot to get those high tree snags. . Even pilots who have many years under their belts crash. They just recognize situations where they're about to crash so they can recover. But don't get it twisted. They crash very hard. Several times to extents of replacing GoPros. . Over the past three years, there were so many times I just want to chuck everything in the trash or give it all away. I couldn't control the quad the way I wanted to or troubleshooting a setup or an upgrade was too frustrating because there was no one single place to get an answer. But after I hit about 40 hours on the simulator in Acro mode, my flying got better. Now, after lowering my rates, I can actually enjoy flying because I'm not yo-yoing up and down or turning like I'm drifting. I flew about six packs yesterday and didn't crash into anything. Granted, there were just trees and bushes that weren't too tightly arranged but they offered some nice objects to weave through. Troubleshooting is still a drag but getting easier.
Yeah it had to do with the orientation and motor mapping. Was a pain to figure it out. Troubleshooting is always a process and normally a frustrating one at that. The hobby really is a diy hobby. Figure it out your self situation which makes it tiresome sometimes. I’m down 1 GoPro so far lol
@@Dylanmagaster. As soon as I saw it happen, I figured as much. But it took it happening to me a couple of times to recognize it. In the beginning I had no clue,. I had the same issue once when I rotated the FC and forgot to adjust. Bardwell and other YT builders address it in build series videos when they emphasizes the arrow on the FC and how you have to make the change in the configurator. But he does the change in BetaFlight so fast you almost miss it. I have to do it a couple of times until the calibration is right. However, FalcoX (FlightOne) does it all through the setup so you don't need to make manual changes. I still like BF better though. I had to alter motor mapping in BetaFlight once and I looked to more detailed tutorials so I could get an understanding on how to do the CLI commands.
@@amen_ra6926 Yeah, I've been using KISS and it's a bit less flashy than beta but once you figure it out I think it's easier to use. plus I like idle up instead of airmode

It’s a rite of passage, like a Jedi building his lightsaber.

YOU ARE MY NEW HERO IN FPV!!!.....and I have used up my allotted yearly use of "!" ;-)
Well done mate, a self build is the next step for me for sure. Subbed.
Very impressive~!!!
You have stickituitivity~!!!
Looking forward to future escapades. 🤗✨🕊

loved the video
10:39 - dang, wish you were into FPV a few years ago. I burned myself out without your advice!
So cool

Everything on a boat takes me 5x what I estimate.
Looks like drone building on a boat is no different.
Flippin' good stuff.
5:45 - The answer is yes. The beginning is def more time at the bench.
Enjoying these. Switch to props out. Check out Chris Rosser's vids.
Awwww yeaaaaahhh
Its like the " old man and the sea"
I’m ready to build my own drone and not sure which one to build this or joshuas one for freestyle. Can any pro freestyle pilots recommend which one?
Where you got the drone kit from bro
Good video , what was the issue that u solved so it finally flew ? And are u using kiss?
It had to do with flight controller orientation and motor mapping.
😁 Good stuff...#HellYeahFPV
Did you have to adjust anything in beta flight
I used KISS GUI. Took me a long time to get it all figured out but got idle up setup and all flies well

Great practice in patience, yes?
Building your own doesn't make you a good pilot unfortunately lol.
I have a cheaper way on making that drone. It's called a bank account and buying it on amazon. Just saying 😌....
You lost me once you started saying that liberal diatribe about sustainability.
Overall it was a good video about drones...
YEAH!!!! Who wants anything to be sustainable!? pshhh. libs.
