This. You should watch Metallica's 1991 concert in Moscow, millions in the audience. I always thought that if the Soviet Union wasn't dead before the concert, it was afterwards.

Metallica has a solid catalog of music. Their songs "One", "Master of Puppets", "Enter Sandman", "Wherever I May Roam", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", and "Unforgiven". It's a hell of a rabbit hole.

Ooooh, you're in for a ride with Metallica, they are the MASTERS of metal, you're already noticing the many deep layers in the music and the vocals. They dont just make deep songs, they perfect songs, so much so, that you know it could not be any better, ever. Every single goddamn note and twang.
A MUST WATCH-- Enter Sandman and creeping death from 1991 Live in Moscow. You have not lived till you watch both of these songs. Btw, nothing else matters is a love song, and their tamest quietest song.

The lead singer James hetfield writes the lyrics. They are always deep and personal yet vague enough for the listener to interpret them to their lives and experiences.

If you want a REALLY hard-hitting Metallica song, One is it. Their official video for One is equally as hard-hitting. I recommend listening to the album version, then watching the video.
Their song For Whom The Bell Tolls is also hard hitting and it's my top favorite by the band.
Oh! There's also a 2019 performance of them doing Master Of Puppets in the pouring rain in Manchester. A wonderful video!

So you’re right, they’re a heavy metal band, but that is one of their softer songs. They are a hell of a rabbit hole you should definitely go down.
They’re known as the biggest heavy metal band in the world for a reason.
You need to hear more. More Metallica!!!

Metallica-established 1981. Metallica also still going strong with a new album out last year! They all hit 60 years old and still killing it! The black album that this song is off of came out in 1991. Their first 4 albums are considered their best. This is the fifth album that has by far sold the most but it was a little more mainstream to a lot of their older fans of which I’m one of but I love it. Their latest one 72 seasons shows me they still got it after all these years. Long may they reign as the best metal!

This was made like 89 or 90. The 80s was The hair era, they were like 25 or 26 here doing their 2nd or 3rd album. 1st album with the new bass player( basketball player). Their original bass player died while on tour with their last album, their driver rolled the tour bus and Cliff died. I think that was in Sweden.

"Master of Puppets," both the song and the album, are masterpieces.
To really taste Metallica, you want to try the early stuff. Metallica is one of "The Big Four," the biggest of the thrash metal scene that emerged in the early 1980's (along with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax). I love their first record, Kill 'em All - "Seek and Destroy" is a great choice.
Thrash metal was very much in opposition to "glam metal" that also started around the same time. Poison, Motley Cru, etc - often called "hair bands" - were the guys in spandex and teased out hair. Thrash bands are the guys in jeans and jackets with patches and spikes.
This song was later in Metallica's career when they started to expand their sound and turn away from thrash a bit, making it more accessible and popular. This album became one of the biggest-selling metal albums of all time, but hardcore thrash fans were not excited about it.

It’s a mind blower to watch them perform it in front of a crowd of more than a million just outside Moscow in 1992 I believe. After Sandman, you can move on to heavier tracks if you want to go that way. The grand-daddy of metal bands and still one of the best
