Birendra was a nation lover. He knew that ruling should be in favour of his own citizens. Democracy lacks the guts to make referendum once again !
Monarchy was never against democracy...fact is parties are against democracy...fact is if they think they will be persecuted yo deshma uniharule election nai huna didaidan...

An unexpected act from King Birendra changed Nepal from absolute monarchy to a system where people can have a say, just like it is today. In 1990, a series of strikes and pro-democracy riots broke out in Nepal. Due to the riots, Birendra lifted the ban on political parties and agreed to become a constitutional monarch in April 1990.
Birendra was the last decent and beloved King of Nepal in my opinion. Gyanendra never had interest in becoming King since he has always been a business focused person and still has billions worth of business.

Or else the mass will be simply manipulated. The reason being journalist themselves are biased subconsciously if not consciously. So this open ended system will work perfectly, specifically in case of nepal. Or else we've got dhamalas and lamichhanes for that matter.
