I think we all had the same childhood...Im not Punjabi but I used to get sent to a Muslim Sunday School to learn how to read & write Arabic and that shit was awful and eerily similar to your experiences at the Punjabi school lol. This video is suuuper accurate haha.

I remember I went to an Arabic school and I knew nothing but the teachers and students all knew Arabic fluently and so I was just sitting there and nodding along and pretending to write in my book. the teacher tried speaking English but it might as well have been Arabic since I still couldn't understand anything. the one word I knew was "mumtaz" meaning wonderful or good job, (after I asked my mom why the teacher was saying that to other kids and not me)

I swear different people pronounce it differently like some people pronounce it more like an L and some people do it like an r. Like for the word அழகு (azhagu) some people say it more like an alagu and some people pronounce it more like aragu (with a non rolled r). I just typed way too much 😂

i was made to attend "hindi school" in singapura on the weekend while attending the public schools on weekdays. the public schools were a genocide where I was traumatized to the point of complete dehumanization by age 12. it has taken me 22 years to re-humanize & (re)educate myself. I still am unable to decide if the public schools were worse or hindi school.

Not wanting to do more school work on the weekends, no specific curriculum, outdated materials, trouble pronouncing specific letters (rolling the "r" in Polish), the half hearted cultural dances and songs, etc. JusReign is great! He's hilarious - and I learn a lot about the Sikh experience in Canada, while relating a lot of to my own immigrant kid in the GTA experience.

Oh this brings back memories..! I was in Grade 10 when me and my Indian homies took a Punjabi class cuz we got a credit for it! It was in summer school and we had the best time! Our teacher was this uncle who was a typical Indian uncle….he caught me a friend cheating on our homework, and he had a “talk” with us in the hallway…. I remember both of couldn’t stop from laughing and he said in front of the entire class, “look, look at them laughing, they have no shame!” All in Punjabi of course and the whole class burst out laughing! Thank God they didn’t call home I would’ve gotten beat! Lol 😂 good times….
