- Who has ever been sitting beside someone they didn’t know and wanted to say something, but never did? Many of us have been there before. But, by overcoming our fear and opening with “hello” we can all contribute to a more united and connected world. In this inspiring talk, Mark shares his solo unsupported cycling journey around the world from China back to Canada and how a simple human connection can improve the well-being of people throughout the world. Mark Quattrocchi, B.Ed, recently returned from a cycling journey around the world from China back to Canada that spanned two-years through forty countries and five continents. On his adventure, Mark fundraised for education to build five schoolhouses in developing communities along the way. Mark gained his sense of adventure and learned about the importance of community growing up in the small country village of Rideau Ferry, Ontario. Before setting out on his cycling adventure, he was a certified Teacher and taught internationally in South Korea, China and locally in Canada. Currently, Mark lives in Scarborough with his wife and daughter where he works full-time as a Motivational Speaker with the WE organization, sharing the power of sustainable impact to tens of thousands of people each year. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you, Marina, for sending me to your cousin's video. I enjoyed the message, the enthusiasm, and cheer that he projects right out of the screen!
Outstanding video.. I agree.. I tell my friends all the time.. Just say "Hello"... I Bikepack all the time.. it's the people you meet that make it special... Thanks for Sharing..
Truly inspiring messages here Mark. Although most people don't have the ability to cycle around the world, it's possible for all of us to gently alleviate fears, become more inclusive, shed negative stereotypes, and of course simply saying hello and bridging the gap with people we meet. You're absolutely right--that one five letter word has the power to- open doors, build bridges, and foster friendships we never imagined. Thanks for inspiring us.
LOVE THIS!! Just finished my first cycle tour across Europe and definitely agree! I experienced so many acts of kindness and met the most beautiful people! Great talk!

It's strange thinking about how many great stories and experiences we've missed out on simply because we were to afraid to say "hi"
Read your book given to me by Danny B and John D. I enjoyed it very much...... thank you for sharing your experience
Walking around with ROADTURTLE my walkingtrailer. I covered many kilometres. As it's a solitary activity..you need contact. Even a simple hello or entering a store will feed you. Just survival.
