  • Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
    - a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
    - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
    - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
    - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated.
    A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
    Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

      and its safety for crashing into other smaller vehicles is impressive too

      I think crumple zone isn't that short. If you look at interior you see very long dashboard. It remembers me on older version of Renault Espace where occupants sits far away from windshield.

      @@captainuki What really worries me is the small overlap test. Sales in America is expected on 3rd quarter 2023, and IIHS will test it.

      @@captainuki the crumple zone is really only the front of the car to the start of the A pillar.

      @@Timico1000 the MPDB test is less severe for heavier vehicles. For example the Hyundai Staria suffers some structural cabin damage in the 40 offset test (you can see in K-NCAPs test with some difficulty thanks to the horrible editing) but doesn't in MPDB test of EuroNCAP.

      3side impact by mobile carriage
      4 rear impact by moving carriage

    so y’all are still doing a full frontal test (which went out of relevancy over 20 years ago) instead of doing a small overlap test? which literally everyone else BUT euroncap are doing… sounds lazy and flawed to me.

    • @sassiqua
      @sassiqua Год назад +9

      @@crestas9 uhhh i absolutely do not think so. cars do not collide 100% front on, usually it’s 40% or less. go to any junkyard and you’ll see that the majority of crashes are small overlaps and moderate overlaps. the only way you would be in a full overlap is if you were to hit a wall of bricks head on.

    • @crestas9
      @crestas9 Год назад

      @@sassiqua yeah that’s true but if a crash happens at the end of some traffic jam because someone brakes too late it’s always full frontal or let’s say someone crashes into another one at a red light.

    • @sassiqua
      @sassiqua Год назад +1

      @@crestas9 that’s normally at a lower speed though, and the crash energy is absorbed differently. besides, the car manufacturers conduct full frontal tests on their own behalf to adhere to standard government testing, making the euroncap full frontal even more obsolete.
