  • Presentation by Sunny Aggarwal on IOTA's revolutionary new blockless distributed ledger called the Tangle. The scalable and lightweight nature of the Tangle makes possible the transfer of value without any fees and the removal of the dichotomy between blockchain users and miners.

    What does it even mean to "verify" a txn in this context? To verify a txn in the blockchain context is to make sure the signature is valid, the funds are available, and it hasn't been double-spent or something like that. Without a record of txns this is impossible. So how is it each node can have a record of all txns to check? How would a node check the network for duplicate txns? Seems like it can't so everything just goes along until a discrepancy is discovered.

    Good job. I'm attempting to bring IOTA to my city.

    It would be nice if you had a microphone clipped to your lapel/shirt because the volume going up and down IS annoying!

    The thing is that it has been proven that the rate of the transactions do not follow a Poisson process but a Hawkes process. (See the papers on Rough Volatility)

    How would a person using a regular laptop or smartphone validate transactions (POW)? Doesn't it require a lot of cpu power to validate?

      No because you don't have to "mine" it (aka decript it). You just need to confirm it.

    Aliensyntax highlights the core issue here... if you have a system requirement, such that a node that can be considered a "verifiable" is in the top 15% of weights within the tangle, then you have a huge opportunity to have logic collisions as there is never a real global state verification system (this is what proof of work is all about). Heck, regardless of your system-wide requirement, even if a "verifiable" node is defined by the top 0.001% of weights in the tangle, a lack of global state verification makes it impossible to have transactions that can be truly verified.
    Either there is something I missed here, or there is a serious issue in the logic of this system
    Further, from what I gather here, the history of the tangle is collectively stored in the tips. What's to stop an attacker from directly hitting the nodes that are "tips" and getting them offline, effectively permanently deleting data from the tangle before it gets to propagate to the majority of the nodes? This is a big problem; in essence, bitcoin solves this issue but at the cost of considerable latency (and of course, specialized "nodes" called miners); I don't see any mechanism to solve this potential issue.

      Roger Nevez Agree, this is a poor introduction. Not even clear how transactions are verified if there is no ledger.

      This is not scam. I'm writing a thesis on it for my Bachelor degree in computer science, simply instead of heavy proof of work to validate transaction, every person who want to send funds have to validate at least two previous transaction found in tangle with a random walk. Keep in mind that IOTA is still in beta and is not made for simple transaction human-to-human but for machine-to-machine. IOTA is a long term project, only time will judge it :) for better understanding: ruclips.net/video/MsaPA3U4ung/видео.html PS: sorry for my bad bad english!

      Perfect! Mind to explain how a feeless cryptocurrency would avoid *Transaction Flooding* ?
      *Transaction Flooding*
      Description: Transaction flooding is simply sending as many valid transactions as possible in order to saturate the network. Usually an attacker will send transactions to other accounts they control so it can be continued indefinitely.

    • @Gvozd111
      @Gvozd111 6 лет назад

      +Roger Nevez You have to add kinda simple PoW puzzle solution to your transaction to make it valid. Similar to Hashcash. This is the ONLY thing preventing tx flood

      There are no blocks only transactions and they are not organized into a 1-dimensional chain but rather a structure more like a web. It's not a block-chain.
