That looks like a fun lens. I may have to get on in the future. Thank you for exploring these niches for us; I wouldn't search them out normally.

I like the small "landscape" type lens with the slower aperture. And for me, part of it is the appearance of the lenses. They have a beauty that is not just functional which makes me want to use them more. I look for chances to use them.

I have to praise 7Artisans for bringing out a "slow" lenses though. Usually these small aperture lenses are special ones such as fisheye or bodycap style lenses.

I feel like a lot of people seem to really worship fast lenses. I see so many comments asking why this is f5.6. A lot of times the faster the lens the more corrections are needed, whether by additional elements or lots of aspherics and special glass. A lot of the slower lenses can be a lot more compact and need a lot less correction for distortion or funny aberrations. I regularly use a lot of slower lenses and I love my f8 body cap lenses and my f3.5 and f5.6 lenses
That said, I'd kind of like to see some vintage inspired slower and more compact lenses made specifically for Micro 4/3. I think this lens was designed for the 35mm miniature format. Imagine how small a lens made for Micro 4/3 could be if it was made in this way. If it has the focus tab and some of the other stuff that would be nice too. It would be like a little baby lens

they do not show particular creativity here, just following the recent refresh of the genuine Leica Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6, that you could have included in this video

Well, if one is to buy a lens to play around with, looks good/vintage, I would pay USD300 than USD3000. Leica users would prefer the Summaron, which I also shot with in the past and sold it shortly after, didn't mind keeping these little guys though, even if I damage it while shooting, I won't have a heart attack.

Independent lens manufacturers have to find and fill gaps in camera manufacturer 's lens ranges. Some do this by making different focal length/aperture combinations, and some by making much cheaper equivalents of existing lenses. The . . . Artisans companies concentrate on the latter.

Hey Jimmy @RED35 What is the equivalent focal length on M43s? Does the adapter you are using affect that? Many thanks

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  2 года назад +1

58mm, just a little tighter than a standard lens, that's why I quite like shooting with it on my OM-1 and PEN-F. No the adapter won't change the aperture, it only makes up the difference in flange distance.

@@Red35Photography Thank you kindly for your response, I always come back to you for your insights :) I was trying to understand what the 35mm full-frame equivalent focal length would be in mm. Does the adapter affect that? Cheers!

I know your focus on this video was using it adapted to mirrorless cameras, however, other reviews have pointed out the lens brings up 35mm frame lines on Leica M bodies. Does your copy do this, just out of interest?

  • @caw25sha

They also make a 28mm f1.4 which is only about 50% more expensive despite being a massive 4 stops faster. The 5.6 is an interesting lens but does look very over priced alongside the 1.4.

Sadly, to me, you missed the boat by not shooting the 7 Artisans 28mm f/5.6 on a full frame camera.

Nice review, thank you! I find the lens cool, but I would pay around 150 for it max. In my opinion it is heavily overpriced.

@@Red35Photography well there is no excuse for it not to be 2.8 really :)) this is a hipster lens, its not practical in any way, ttartisan makes 28 1.5 now thats a masterpiece for the money even if it is bigger

I bought and, regrettably, found it necessary to return this lens. Great build and sharp, but awful flare, sufficient to destroy images.

Why would it be, if Canon can release f11 lenses, haha joking. This is supposed to be a niche category
