- Now in proud partnership with FiXT, the third full-length Comaduster album from veteran musician, video game sound designer and electronic music producer Réal Cardinal, is here. Titled Darker Matter, the 16 track album delivers a densely packed odyssey of sound and emotion, exploring the realms of IDM, Drum and Bass and post-rock sensibilities while simultaneously merging elements of Americana folk music, djent and doom metal, further accompanied by dark ambient shadows. The album’s intricate music production is juxtaposed by powerful vocal performances from Comaduster himself, as well as multiple tracks featuring the talented female vocalist, Mari Kattman.
Though not a concept album -- at least not nearly as much as the previous Comaduster album Solace -- the album is heavily inspired by our deep but incomplete understanding of extreme physics, and metaphysical aspects of our lives. The emotional core is much more personal and direct than anything Cardinal has previously produced, resulting in a darker and grittier atmosphere than previous Comaduster albums.
Exploring themes of occult imagery, alchemic mystery, paradoxical physics, and harsh science fiction, Darker Matter takes on these tropes with musical interpretations pushing into the limitations of digital editing, time-stretching, vocal processing, time signature complexities, labyrinthian rhythm structures, intentional audio abuse and noise artifacts.
The unifying element throughout the 80 minute album journey though is Comaduster himself, the dark mage, responsible for each sonic manipulation as he pushes & pulls listeners through hidden associations and obscurity to interconnectedness and passage through his elaborate maze.
Prepare for a transformative experience with Darker Matter.

Lyrics:
-Verse 1-
Dream yourself to save
The pull of you that’s left between the waves
Could I feel and hear if you displaced the air
Distant signal flares, or were you really there?
You’re invisible to me
In transparence
Of innocence
-Chorus
A haze of gravity
No light to penetrate you or me
Iridescence not within
The darker matter that swings between us now
-Verse 2-
Dream yourself away
The pull of you
Shredding time and space
You’re invisible to me
An entrancing trace
Of a massless state of being
Could I feel and hear if you displaced the air
Distant signal flares, or were you really there?
-Chorus-
-Bridge
Dream yourself away
The pull of you
Shredding time and space
Shredding time and space
Shredding time and space
-Chorus-
For sound design practice ( I haven't worked on a game in over a year), I designed all of the 'atmospheric' liquidy weird stuff at the start along to a video footage of the *Spoiler* 'The God Particle' in netflix's 'Dark'. If you line up the initial hit, and do some adjusting you can get it to fit over over a certain scene in S2E2.
You mean "The God particle"?
@@MichaelVir yes, typo :-)
ich Hoffe das du darin wieder Arbeit findest ich möchte deine Music in Games hören :D
Just to clarify -- I didn't actually MAKE those sounds in the show 'Dark'. What I did was a screen cap of the scenes a mentioned, then redesigned the sound as practice. (kind of a common practice for sound designers).
This song is probably one of the more deceptive songs on the record. It feels 'wonky', but relatively straight. In reality there are 5 'timelines' happening at the same time in this song. Well, they're more like 'systems, or grids'. The 'systems' are where the timelines converge. I'll tend to put notes on 'convergent' points for power and re-enforcement and groove, and notes on 'divergent' points to create tension and unsettling movement. This song largely lives at 11/8 timesig and 340 bpm. The chorus is in 9/8, but as it appears to slow down... it actually doesn't. It goes to 10/8, then 13/8 at the same tempo. So just adding more notes to the bar (and adjusting the 'systems' accordingly. Then realigning the main elements of the groove so they sit more symetrically in the now lengthened bars. Phew.
There is zero tempo automation in this song. The exact different thing happening in Nebulous Amorphous (except for the 7/8 parts), where EVERY bar the tempo is changing, and the time signature is ephemeral.
***hears the eyes glass over*** :-)
After hearing a few songs from the new album it definitely took a new direction and it's definitely a really interesting and cool one I love how I'm forgetting I'm even listening to music when I hear these songs great job on the new album I've been listening for years and every album has something different this is far more trippy than the past but I love it great job 💙
@@arcblackheart7780 Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy it and it weirdness :-)
your music is so advance men, so much details and stuff going on, that's what I like. I could listen it for months and still miss details! Replay value 10/10 :)
Good job mate !
Hey man I just wanted to say that this is the most emotional and cinematic and intense electronic music I've ever heard. I cannot put into words what this song means to me and how it has helped me. I'm very grateful for your work
Oh maaaannnn.. Every time a new song gets posted I claim it as my new favorite. This is now my favorite.
This is my personal fave :-)
But now they are all posted :-)

@@Comaduster Awesome! I bought the album as well, this is absolutely going to be my go to for a while. Your music is the best I've heard in a long time. ♥_♥
I really love the chunky guitar bass plucks, givin it a more organic feel ♥
Other than the doomy af guitar rips in during the middle, they are one of my favorite things in this tune. That and the second half of the verses "Could I feel and hear..." have like 5 time lines going at the same time, and it somehow (at least to me) sound like a single moving entity. Really proud of this one.
gives me Devil May Cry vibes, i love it
Awesome
POWERFUL !
Thanks!
Needed to bring in Elijah Hennig on the 8 string to help out the DOOM. I really like the sound we got between his 8 string, and my 'tuned so low telecaster it's barely making a note' guitar sounds.
Great job, i like it
Thank you! So much went in to this song... it's up 'there' on the list of most wacky Comaduster productions. Don't even want to consider track counts. But the music itself is working on multiple time-lines, some of those time-lines have multiple time-lines with in them. :-)
@@Comaduster still the best is Following the night, great song i have heard
N I C E
Rad !
Is "following the night" shouldn't be the last video before album release?
The album is out now, though. :-)
Yeah. It's up on bandcamp. :)
You have a twisted gasket, dude.
Hahha. I thought I had that repaired during my last maintenance dissection. I better get on it! hahaha.
Best, :-)
This riff is so Tool
it kinda reminds me of a marvel movie scene. :)
Maybe it will get used for one :-)
I think it should :)
Doctor Strange 2, here we come.
cool. :)
@@TacoFreak95 There's a placement my bank account would enjoy!
So whats behind the lyrics?
I for some reasons get solace vibes
No Solace.
The meaning with this is more personal. It's mutli-dimensional though. The main ideas is that dark influences (dark stuff in life 'dark matters', trauma, etc) can come between two people who share a bond. Those dark influences / darker matter can cause a rift between those people, or cause them to be un-recognizable or shifted to each other (using the metaphor that dark matter doesn't reflect visible light "You're Invisible to me"). "Iridescence held within, the darker matter that swings between us now". ie we still have light and life to share with eachother, but there is an intangible and indescribable power/effect/situation keeping things disconnected.
@@Comaduster thanks by vibes i ment sounically
Like a mix of last 3 tracks of album
But improbably over thinking
@@mistakenotou7681 No such thing as overthinking on this one :-) This song in particular grabs from a deep well of influences. It was incredibly challenging to construct.
