Is this about people not.even trying because they had a hard time? Am i getting this right?
@@mistakenotou7681 It has a lot of meanings.
It's about people following false doctrines and having their lives fall apart because of it.
Being deceived. Especially to one's self. Many people go through mental health issues in denial.
It's also about trying to help someone who is in pain, but the act of doing that could cause more pain in other ways.
"If I decimate your burdens, will I stigmatize your grief".
It's also about black and white thinking
"To show a little courage, leave nothing warm and breathing" -- ie either try a little, or leave nothing alive. Psychologically this relates to 'splitting' -- typical in Borderline and OCD patients. When confronted with hardship, the 'splitting' response is to either give up, or go all in -- with no middle ground.
Regarding hardship, yes giving up is part of the meaning.
And yeah it also later in the song takes on the perspective of watching someone go down a painful spiral, knowing WHAT you could do to help, but also knowing that it won't ultimately work. (see the ending lyrics).
"Ignite the lanterns on the way, Dither not, Decimate the burdens" -- ie, I know you're hurting, keep in contact and let me know where you are, try to keep your wits, break through pain so I can see you again when you are 'through'.

@@Villicus No prob. I write in metaphor a lot. Sometimes it's easy to explain (this record is easier because it contains a lot of personal accounts), but sometimes it's more nebulous to explain.
I'll add -- It's also about having to accept that you sometimes need to let someone suffer through their problems in order to truly learn to deal with them. Even if you can intervene and help them, it's that realization that you need to hold back and let things progress naturally. Otherwise you risk destroying things completely.

@@Comaduster yeah. Overall its better to risk making a song that people might not be as used to rather than make the same exact song over and over again. I respect anyone's endeavor to keep it fresh, because I sure as hell couldn't do it.

Really enjoyed this song. The electronics hit harder and the beats come faster than anything else from this set of music so far which makes for a really fun track overall. The instrumental buildup to the first chorus after verse 1's end in particular being awesome to experience. What I found most interesting about the track though isn't so much what it does, but also what was absent. Mainly that the vocals seemed more sparse and spaced out than in a lot of the other recent singles, letting the electronics take center stage and speak for themselves, which really worked for me on this track. When the vocals do come in, they were often integrated in a way that they didn't really overshadow the background elements. Gave it a different feel from many of the others, which feel more chorus driven (not a complaint at all by the way, love the band's lyrics and voice). The other notable absence was the absence of sound at about 2:46 where we get a beat of nothing. Weaponizing silence in such a heavy track like this was a neat touch, catching me a bit by surprise during the first listen. It's probably one of my favourite elements in this track as I haven't heard too many tracks utilizing quiet as a tool quite like this does, my favourite example of which being near the end of Nine Inch Nails' song "Terrible Lie".
So overall this is probably tied for my favourite from this new album thus far alongside "What Can Never Be Taken From You". Can't wait to hear more from Darker Matter.
Thank you. Really glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the thoughtful comment. Yeah -- this is a more frantic and noise driven track. It's definitely framed more with IDM and noise type sonics -- I kind of went for an anti-EDM approach (which actually happens a lot on this record), as I'm pretty tired of those 'doofy' snares, and the sam kick used in every song, etc. There's a lot of mid - late 90s IDM influence all over here. You also caught on to the vocal motif. It is used sparingly, because I wanted the choruses to have more impact when they DID come in. Each chorus also has a different meaning lyrically, which is a bit different. But yeah in the verses (and well, everywhere -- like you describe), I wanted them to blend in with the electronics more. As I've mentioned before -- every song on this album is pretty distinct from each other one. The title track is a winding odyssey of multilayer temporal loops and doom metal devastation at points -- I can't wait to see the 'WTF' all over when that one comes out with the album release.
But, The next tune to be revealed prior to that is ... probably the 'poppiest' one. Probably the poppiest one I've ever really done. I'm REALLY excited for it, it even gets stuck in my head after all of this time :-)
You are giving me a very difficult decision when the album comes out. Listening to it in it's entirety and hearing the self titled song in context with the rest or skipping ahead and checking out that track first. Sounds like it will be awesome! As for your other one, I'm a bit surprised to see it described as really "poppy", as I don't think I would really ascribe that label to your previous work but I'm definitely excited to hear it soon too.
