Very different from what I'm used to hearing. And my oh my do I like it. The vocals are melodic. And the electronic bits of this fit so well together. With that low tempo, I'd say we have a winner~
Lyrics (from genius) [Verse 1] I pull this hopeless state And slide into my shade Feeling a curse, bruise and singe Through a screaming rapid shockwave [Verse 2] And so we fall to our wreckages below They dot the skyline in bleak horizon, the sound of letting go I can feel that emotion evaporate like rain A moment we can recollect that I'm hoping will not fray away again [Verse 3] Hit the ground intact, taken aback from impact Alone and unscathed, accustomed to this game we play Nothing I could change would free us from this phase refrained Bonded to a frequency that's cycling independently [Verse 4] Onward through this fear we feel the same Subdued and tranquilized on a medicated train Through vacant spaces Racing to retrace every (thought) [Verse 5] Through the frames of faded stars Where I could hold this time and tear apart this Darkness folding autumn’s cold wings Wrapped around this incubated [Verse 6] Solace Entangled in Sorrow Untangled in Solace Entangled in Sorrow Untangled in Solace If I wait, will you still be there? ([?]) (Recursive err-) [Outro] Voidless Pattern weaving
An epic build to an utterly shattering climax. Terribly beautiful and haunting. One of the most sublime journeys in electronic music I've yet come across.
I love that sample from voidless towards the end. Really fortifies the fact that this concept is exceptional cohesive even though it doesn't really have a timeline in terms of the songs themselves. Brilliantly executed.
This is actually one of, if not, your best song ever made yet. It never stops evolving, and it carries me through a emotional journey. This is the magic of progressive music, regular songs hardly flow well like this. I yearn for more of it, and would be a bit embarassing to say I'm even wanting to make some of it. You truly are inspiring.
Thank you. This song is special to me. Out of all my songs, this one is very much a part of me. I don't really identify a lot with my own music (I prefer it that way, for perspective). But this song was first written in 2004, and It lived with me until it was finally released in 2017. It started as one thing -- which basically became to core of Comaduster -- and eventually intertwined it's self in my life and become the linchpin of the Solace concept. It's definitely cinematic intentionally. :-) I don't believe I'll ever create something of this stature again. Not because I wouldn't want to, but finishing this was really the end of an era for me and is my statement on 'this sound'. I don't feel I could do a better job on it, and that's rare as I'm hyper self critical.
So... If you've been working on making your music more emotive and artistic, you've definitely set your own bar pretty high. I'm super excited for some new music from Comaduster!!!!!
Thank you! Always looking to emote through my music. With Solace I went to space -- And indeed, it's a high personal bar. Seeds from some of the songs on that record are 16 years old now. The new stuff is more internal, personal, but also with some collaboration. It's a bit of a side step from Solace, but it's still very much Comaduster :-) Incoming train of new material! :-)
Oh boy, I've tried to reply twice. First time I clicked away by accident. Second time the tune ended and booted me. Hope you checked the lore :-) The original plan (well no, this song was started back in 2004) was too have Ancient Generations be part of the whole song. It was meant to be a sort of 'suite'. But in terms of plot, Ancient Generations really has little to do with everything that's in the song Solace. Ancient Generations is the very distant future and past of the all of the iterations and blackfolds of other beings of 'The Void'. 'Solace' is very much rooted in THAT universe, and is the end of it. The Emergent One/The Retracer (it's hinted at the lyrics of Solace -- "Racing, To Retrace every Thought" ... the transformation and motivation is already occuring) is battling it's self in a essentially a godlike battle which ends up collapsing the Solace universe. As told by the album up until this point, The Emergent One's experience has been completely austere until living a full universe of lives and experience within 'Solace'. The collapse of Solace -- the middle sound design section -- is very important to the main character (which when taken to the logical conclusion is EVERY character in the story) as nearly all of The Emergent One's true experience in life/death (or anything truly tangible) happened(s) within Solace. After that break apart, The Emergent One is ejected from the collapsed 'Solace' where only a singularity remains, back into a completely austere and pointless existence in an empty universe (from which it came). The being is damaged but carrying 'The Imprint' of the Solace universe with it. So in a way, The Emergent One at that point is in a worse place than when it 'started' (which is a nebulous concept in this story) and this is very much a key point of resolve for the character. SO to answer -- I kept that second half to be a stark plot contrast: From the rich and fulfilling existence within Solace, forced back into austerity after knowing nothing else. Also the 3 EPs that are coming that relate to this story very much reference what happens in that last half :-) It's very much part of the song Solace, even if it's a little odd.
Hollow Worlds was one of my favorite albums of 2013. I always keep the Tympanik release in my car when i want to give my subs a good workout! Will Solace get a remaster too? To me, the master of Solace was quiter compared to HW. This is more apparent when listening to them back-to-back. Either way, glad to hear more Comaduster news so quickly! Best of luck Real. Also, please let this mean a CD release of Solace! Plz!
It's mastered quieter on purpose for sure. I wanted it to have a more cinematic dynamic range (though not AS dynamic as that), and more like some older records that I like. I liked it more when I kept it more dynamic and turned it up. :-) I took reference from things like Tool records, etc, along with some modern influences. But I really didn't want this record to have that typical 'doofy' EDM squash, and be a bit sharper and have more gravity when the low end really kicks in.
I understand. Typically, there aren't too many modern electronic artists that aim for a quiet/dynamic mix. Especially with a dance-y "wall of sound" type of project. I can respect your approach though. There are definitely people out there that over-compress and their listening experience gives ear exhaustion.
Part of it, yep. It's a mishmash of physics sci-fi that I'm not capable of showing the math on hahaha. But yeah, the album concept parallels intelligence and emotion with extreme physics, long time scales, and paradox.
I was making music well before I was sound designer :-) But over a decade in the games industry definitely helped me hone the direction of this project.
@@Comaduster yo i really appreciate all the interactions you have with fans on youtube and how you self comment really fascinating stuff about your work or process.

Lyrics (from genius)
[Verse 1]
I pull this hopeless state
And slide into my shade
Feeling a curse, bruise and singe
Through a screaming rapid shockwave
[Verse 2]
And so we fall to our wreckages below
They dot the skyline in bleak horizon, the sound of letting go
I can feel that emotion evaporate like rain
A moment we can recollect that I'm hoping will not fray away again
[Verse 3]
Hit the ground intact, taken aback from impact
Alone and unscathed, accustomed to this game we play
Nothing I could change would free us from this phase refrained
Bonded to a frequency that's cycling independently
[Verse 4]
Onward through this fear we feel the same
Subdued and tranquilized on a medicated train
Through vacant spaces
Racing to retrace every (thought)
[Verse 5]
Through the frames of faded stars
Where I could hold this time and tear apart this
Darkness folding autumn’s cold wings
Wrapped around this incubated
[Verse 6]
Solace
Entangled in
Sorrow
Untangled in
Solace
Entangled in
Sorrow
Untangled in
Solace
If I wait, will you still be there?

This music is godly.
I don't have speakers worthy of this epic music
Good reason to buy a new, hopefully you did it;)

Although I actually hate a bit that it has some of the cinematic flair (suspense, and repeated drums, you know it)

better than both seriously
He sounds much deeper and darker than both you mentioned.
