I've never heard of Zucchero before but this was amazing. I wish we could have had Freddie sing this. It's just his kind of song and he'd put in so much emotion.
@gordonnodrogthomson 46664 (four, double six, six four) is a series of AIDS charity concerts played in honour of Nelson Mandela by South African musicians in the 2000s. Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1964, and was the 466th prisoner to arrive that year. The prison administration's scheme of numbering prisoners was to follow the sequence number of the prisoner (466 in his case), with the last two digits of the year (64).
It is was a smooth, melancholy blanket from the radio, right around the time a beloved rock and roller was cancelled in NY. Sort of, "upped the ante", melancholia-wise.
A terrific & particular gem 💎 this tune. It floated gently, briefly, a moment of reflection and melancholy all at once on the radio for a season back when airwaves were king…. Somewhere between New Wave and Yacht Rock ….in its own Canoe. Yacht Wave perhaps!?!? In any event it’s been covered, in a rare show of dignity …..wonderfully & graciously by those who dared… the original, as a matter of fact, is as gentle & fine as could possibly be. Meanwhile, the covers are there, and they remain a very nice tribute to the Korgis all on their own… and this particular song deserves no less.
Had Dream Academy's cover from 1985 in the back of my mind since 1991. All of a sudden with the internet comes Zucchero, and all magnificent pieces even remotely attributed to him. THANK YOU for the most gut wrenching, heart swelling, tear shedding music I've ever heard.
I just did a piano solo of this song in front of an audience, and it went good :) It's a great song, too bad Freddie couldn't have been there that night to sing :(

Never knew Johnny Vegas could do such a great singing rendition of a great song. Also total respect to picture of the late Nelson Mandela as the backdrop.
The song was written by James Warren . He and Andy Davis were The Korgis but their main band was, and still very much is STACKRIDGE. They tour the UK and include Korgi's songs in the set but with 9 Stackridge Albums they have a lot of material to choose from. Stackridge were on The Craig Ferguson Late Late Show on CBS TV on March 14th 2011
So glad that Queen and Zucherro did this song the honour by being played by such greats. Just goes to show how certain songs strike a Chord with us all.
I've known and loved this song for 40 years. New 'covers' keep appearing (the sign of a 'Classic' composition!) Wouldn't it have wonderful if Freddie had been given the chance to sing it?
ZUCCERO . . . . I LOVE YOUR MUSUC , , , I K^LOVE THAT YOU ARE ITALIAN . . . YOU SING WITH YOUR WHOE HEART . . . THANK YOU FOR BRINGING JOY TO MY SOUTH AFRICAN HEART . . . . I LIVE IN EUROPE . . . I SAY ...THANK YOU DEAR ZUCCHERO!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, this song kills me every time.
Perfect.
👍🙏👏🎉🤠
An indescribably beautiful song. Zucchero sings it with so much passion. Love this man.
Wow! Just amazing! Zucchero version is a great masterpiece!
fantastic version by Zucchero! And what a nice touch by Sharon Corr!!!
It's the best version of that beautiful song ❤
Imagine how much more famous Zucchero would have been if he had been from the US or the UK. He is one of the greatest.
I think he is proudly italian. Neither you, nor me need to be from the USA or UK to succeed.
Like Julio and Enrique Iglesias ?
Really?
SO TRUE Michiel.............

Bravissimo Zucchero orgoglio italiano 💪🏻😎
Un Éxito de THE KORGIS
Magnifique interprétation de Zucchero - Violon spectaculaire.
Made by the The Corrs

Does a nice vocal with Paul Young. Senza Una Donna - ( without a woman )
Not only"Senzs una donna". Take a Night for listen the several Zucchero hits.. You mau be surprised
Can I put 3 million likes to this comment???!!!
look Zucchero up mate, the king of Italian Blues and possibly the artist with the most renowned featurings appearances ever
This song is not suited for Freddie. Freddie's voice is great but it's not "soulful" by any stretch.
I like that better than the original 100% 👏👏👏👏👍🏼🇬🇧
1000000000%❤
Оригинал всегда им останется, это не обсуждается. Иначе он бы не заслужил внимание!!!
A fuckin perfect live cover version of an amazing song of The Korgis.........timeless......at a loss for words...a true tribute to Real Music!!! 💜💜💜

@Luis Claro I totally agree. Such a timeless song, and very good live version.

Great music from the band Korgis of the year 1980. Many have covered this great song, none came to be as beautiful as that of its original performers.
It is was a smooth, melancholy blanket from the radio, right around the time a beloved rock and roller was cancelled in NY. Sort of, "upped the ante", melancholia-wise.
I really like Beck’s cover
The Stackridge cover is also excellent, unsurprisingly

The first time I heard this beautiful song was in the voice of Nicola Roberts and believe me it does her a lot of honor, it's exquisite!
Excelente versión!!!

It was the concert for Mandela which explains the photo and Mandela's prison number tattooed on Zucchero's face
