Hi there, thank you very much for the tips. I tried to connect my Sony UWP D-21 with a kind of cable that you recommend but my lapto just dont recognize it, Does all wireless mics can be used with laptops or is it a specifically just with the Wireless Go? Would you recommend trying to connect it with USB adapter?
Hi, thanks for the comment. I haven't tried with the Sony Mic's unfortunately, but generally, there's 2 things to be aware of in this type of setup. 1. The type of Laptop you have, whether its a Macbook or a Windows based one, will differ on how it renders sound INPUT - some offer dedicated ports for it, some require USB adapters to transfer the signals, and others may work with a Splitter. 2. If you have just a headphone port only (Like Macbooks for example), a splitter is needed, but the type of splitter you get depends on whether your microphone uses a TRS or TRRS jack. Here is how you can tell the difference: storage.googleapis.com/support-forums-api/attachment/message-1443197-6481561549619238188.jpg - This also depends which input your laptop is, TRS or TRRS - and then you buy a splitter cable accordingly to match each end. Hope that makes sense?
I have a 2019 Macbook pro, will any splitter with 3 rings (and two output, the audio and mic female) work? I used your link to go to Amazon and it didn't go to any specific product. Just a list of splitters. please advise
Which country are you clicking the link from? The link redirects to the exact product if its available in your country's Amazon listings, otherwise if not, it shows results for similar items. But nonetheless, it should work for a similar splitter as well.
@@TrendingReviews Hey thanks for replying! So I went through the similar products and several in the reviewers comments noted that the splitter wouldn't work with a Macbook, but - - I just kept looking and did find an adapter that I believe with do the same thing you are doing. I can't connect it to my laptop (windows 10) even with the splitter, ive been searching audio input in my laptop but there isn't any external mic. Some other video said that we should use trrs connector, but you still use trs connector and it's working. Did you use any sound card or software for that wireless mic?
No software needed for this method - its a direct connection. Some windows laptops have a TRRS Jack input, which means you will need to get that TRRS connector for it I'm afraid.
Hi there, thank you for this video. Everything went well except that when I plug my mic into my computer it doesn't appear into the output in my setting. Do you have any idea why ?
Hi! Thank you for this video, was about to purchase the wireless go and was wondering about the same thing, so i have a Macbook pro 2017 model running Mojave, will this work for me? TIA
hi. thanks for the tutorial. i bought a hama splitter cable (pink and green male) and there is no sign on it for headphone and microphone. i figured the green is the headphone, because when i plug in the headphones to the pink one it works very poorly, and in the green its good quality sound. Then it would be obvious to use the pink for mic, but when plugged in and switched on, my mac does not detect the mic in audio settings. Is my cable not the right one to use i wonder?
I think that might be the case. My sister bought a different splitter cable for her Macbook and it didn't work - but when I gave her my one that I used in this video, it worked for her. So maybe check if the one I have would work for you too? (Link in description)
The Y adapter is completely unnecessary unless you want to use its headphone output socket. The Rode SC7 TRS to TRRS cable will work fine on a MacBook from at least 2011 onwards, as they are all fitted with TRRS headphone/mic sockets.
see that makes sense David because my laptop DID ask me when I plugged the Rode adapter in if I was inserting a mic- but it still didn't appear to record from the transmitter input sooo.... I came here looking to see what I needed to do differently.
Thanks - I haven't tried it with the new M1 iMac's as I don't own one unfortunately. If you have the Wireless Go, you could always buy the splitter cable to try it, and send back for refund if it doesn't?

@@TrendingReviews Hello, sir, yes, I have the original rode cable from the wireless go + the transmitter. Exactly the same things. But it does not work, earbuds are showing, microphone isnt. I will give it one more try by buying rode SC7 cable and try it with the transmitter. If that does not work, then I am returning the transmitter.
@@petr.mojevize You can use the original Rode cable that comes with the wireless go - but other than that, I'm not too sure why it would be causing a problem. My best guess is because you have traditional USB ports on your Macbook, the laptop is dedicating the microphone input only via those ports - so as a result - you can try one more thing - which is to get a USB splitter instead of headphone port splitter. This one: geni.us/Z25f25r
Thank you for the video - it was very useful. I am looking into buying a few of the Rode items now. Can you please tell me about the little stand that you have clipped the microphone onto? Is it a Rode one or a generic one? Thanks so much again

For anyone who comes across the same issue, I've tried to use the Apple Airpods as the output, to hear the sound. And looks like it works! I will test it during my classes.
Thanks for your video. I've followed the instructions but my Mac doesn't recognise the set up as an external microphone (it only recognises it as 'headphones' & 'headphones port'. I have Macbook Air 2017 however so I'm not sure if that's the problem as your video as with a Pro. I've also tried purchasing the Rode SC3 cable as well as a splitter like you demonstrated in your video but neither work. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
Great tutorial. We have the RODE SC3 3.5mm TRRS to TRS adaptor for smartLav, will that do the same thing? Unfortunately the "external microphone" isn't being picked up in the system preferences (on our macbook pro). Wondering if that's the adaptor or if it's an issue with the operating system (MacOS Mojave is the most up to date we can get on this macbook)
Thanks! I haven't actually used the SC3 Adapter cable, but considering it is primarily made for cameras and audio recorders, I don't think it allows the Macbook to distribute a microphone input on its own. Its not a problem with the OS, but 95% sure its the adapter. The Macbook would need to 'Split' the headphone and microphone input at the same time, something that the SC3 cable cannot do. Hope that helps.
I have a Dell G5 and Windows 10. When I plug in the GoPro red cable to the laptop and the question box pops up, I have to select "LINE IN" for the GoPro to show up in settings. If I select "MIC IN" (the default) it does not work. Just thought I'd throw this out there for anyone with this issue.

Two Macbook Airs and one Macbook Pro. No matter what I do, I cannot get any of these laptops to recognize and switch from the internal microphone to the Rode wireless go. Very frustrated! Any suggestions?
What year/versions are your Macbook Airs/Pro's? The older ones use a different line-in port for the Jack Input. Depending on this, it might dictate which splitter cable you get. I'll see if I can help identify if you let me know what versions your Mac's are on, and also what OS they are running.

Hi, for laptops that have traditional USB ports on them, the computer tends to dedicate microphone inputs through those ports only, hence it wont allow a split from the headphone jack. Can this be used on a zoom meeting ?
Hello I tried this exact process with Zoom but I dont think it works
Hi there, thank you very much for the tips.
I tried to connect my Sony UWP D-21 with a kind of cable that you recommend but my lapto just dont
recognize it, Does all wireless mics can be used with laptops or is it a specifically just with the Wireless Go?
Some windows laptops have a TRRS Jack input, which means you will need to get that TRRS connector for it I'm afraid.

hi. thanks for the tutorial. i bought a hama splitter cable (pink and green male) and there is no sign on it for headphone and microphone. i figured the green is the headphone, because when i plug in the headphones to the pink one it works very poorly, and in the green its good quality sound.
Trending Reviews thanks a lot. In the meantime i bought a new one and it works! Thanks for the video again.
The Y adapter is completely unnecessary unless you want to use its headphone output socket. The Rode SC7 TRS to TRRS cable will work fine on a MacBook from at least 2011 onwards, as they are all fitted with TRRS headphone/mic sockets.
Exactly! The video completely ignores this fact.
see that makes sense David because my laptop DID ask me when I plugged the Rode adapter in if I was inserting a mic- but it still didn't appear to record from the transmitter input sooo.... I came here looking to see what I needed to do differently.

Hi Petr. Which Macbook do you have?
@@TrendingReviews hello sir, Macbook Air 2017
OK - It should still work - do you have the right Rode cable into the transmitter and the right end into the microphone port of the splitter?
@@TrendingReviews Hello, sir, yes, I have the original rode cable from the wireless go + the transmitter. Exactly the same things. But it does not work, earbuds are showing, microphone isnt.

I just purchased the splitter, my Mac is from 2017. I got the same issue. It is not being detected

Hi, for laptops that have traditional USB ports on them, the computer tends to dedicate microphone inputs through those ports only, hence it wont allow a split from the headphone jack.
