  • This terrain build project was a real speed build using methods that involved practically zero drying times! Needing a fungi grove terrain for the characters descent into the Grove level of Sunless Citadel and their first encounter with the undead gardeners I settled on this pretty successful shroom scatter terrain.
    It's definitely intended as a pretty rough and ready terrain build as I had a single afternoon to throw it all together, including writing up my version of this classic D&D encounter :D

    Just DM’d my group through and underground adventure where’d I’d diy’d the tunnels. Even though they made it to the surface I decided I needed a mushroom forest as they’d run into this in a section but I didn’t have any made.
    As an aside the Gloomstalker Ranger came up with the idea of covering everyone’s face with a urine soaked scarf (to protect them from the heavy mildew and spores in air). Nobody but the Ranger wanted to do that so the Artificier/Alchemist mixed up something else. He rolled horrible when he had to determine it’s smell so it resembled dead rotten carcass and sewage. Needless to say the Half-Orc Barbarian refused to wear anything and the rest of the party was split between the two options. We’re three dad’s playing with our kids. We haven’t laughed that much together in awhile.
    Love the shrooms.

      Thank you so much for the little bit of story there... love hearing that! It is stories like that which talk about years later 😂 I hope that you guys and the kids go onto many many more, and of course thanks for liking the build too 👍

      These were really fun to do and super quick. With a bit more time I would spend a little more effort on priming or sealing the aluminium foil... but I was in a rush for these ones 😂. I have been thinking of returning to this set and exapanding on some of the designs! Glad that you enjoyed it.

    It is a shame that your channel hasn't yet gained more attention. You have serious talent in the art of terrain-building (amongst other things). Not to mention that your videos are very pleasant to watch and listen to.
    Thank you for making this content for us.

    Really effective terrain, and easy to construct! I really liked the use of acrylic ink washes, even though they are a little hard to find in most big box craftstores here in the states.

      Thanks for commenting, sorry for the delay but I seem to have a handful of comments that hadn't shown up! I will actually be in the states in October and I plan to check out the Hobbylobby and .... hmmm I can't recall the other one :D but either way I can at least get an idea of whats on the shelf over there!

    Just found your channel, and I'm really enjoying your content. Those mushrooms look fantastic, especially the bases. I wonder if it would be possible to make the caps a little more durable somehow? Seems like they would be quite fragile.

    • @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles
      @Terrain_Craft_Chronicles  2 года назад +1

      Hey glad that you found me... tin foil, once compacted is super tough. I had to make these in a hurry so yes some of the edges are a little thin but as yet, over a year later, they have taken practically no damage! If I were doing them again I would make sure to roll the edges more tightly to ensure that they didn't deteriorate at all. One point I will make however is that paint doesn't stick to foil too well and so this has worn off in a couple places but it has actually added to the effect somewhat 😂... So a couple coats of undercoat would resolve this though. Hope you enjoy watching the rest of the channel, glad to have you along 🙌

      Heh heh... indeed, the finer the particulates the better but it will, with a few coats, do sand or fine grit. One of its best uses is actually bicarbonate for snow, and as yet no noticeable yellowing like you get with PVA and that’s after a couple years 👍... have fun 😀

      Vermiculite, at least this type which is used for putting in your plant pots for better drainage is just ground up cork bark 😅
