I spent 5 weeks painting on the beach. Here is every part of the process...

To everyone who is upset by crumbling a canvas or covering over parts of a painting to create something new,I think we should consider the beauty in the detachment of things. The joy of painting is in the creation process and it’s not always the finished process. The most important part of painting is showing up for yourself and doing it in the first place, doesn’t Matter what happens nexr

Right on. Art never has to make it to market, to make it art. It is the process where we find comfort or stimulation and disappear into that invisible place where artist go when they are in the process of creating.

Painting can't be like having a photo, retouching it and saving it as a copy and then retouching the copy and saving it as a copy of a copy. You'd never end with a painting. A painting isn't done until it's done (and maybe not then).

It's so common that you get to a point that is OK, quite pleased with it, then do something on an impulse and end up thinking "well, I've really messed that up!" But, for some reason, what comes out of it is better. On top of that, I really like the panoramic view you have achieved by piecing photos together, and the sweep of varied human activity.

Such a sweet comment. I agree. There is deep fulfillment in finding beauty in ur own visions and beauty in what ur able to create instead of the beauty of our outer appearance. Painting represents the beauty of the mind

Six weeks of painting on the beach means that the monthly fixed costs continue. The paintings should bring in about ten thousand dollars before taxes.

At first, I just winced 🥴every time you painted over a perfectly created figure… but then I could start to see your fascinating process ! By taking video of the entire process, one ends up with many DIFFERENT paintings all “layered” up on each other so you really don’t loose ANYthing ! It’s all captured along a time continuum.

As someone who travels and paints alot I can relate greatly to turning your room into a secret art studio. Also, I really enjoy the collage treatment of the landscape as it makes for more interesting landscapes and depicts the passage of time. Also, I love that you set out on this self residency adventure! hearts all around.

My mum was a potter and she always had what was known as the graveyard a pile of thrown out works that didn’t make the grade according to her standards. It used to devastate my sister and I who would sneak pieces off the heap and hide them but to her it was a vital part of her process that she could detach herself from her work when necessary to achieve the level of technique and practice that she aspired to. In her eyes once you were emotionally invested in a piece you overlooked its flaws and couldn’t move past it. So totally understand what you do here.

I now want to paint today and I thank you for bopping me on the head with your astounding work. I actually paint every day and just like pushing it around and really love the choppiness of flat edge brush work. I was primarily a contemporary realist for most of my life and started slowly but surely working toward abstraction. It only took me forty years to figure some things out and it's still a learning process. I have found that working abstract helps my realist work and vice versa. Wishing you the best in your travels. You are awesome. Stephen

Beautiful palette, expressive free strokes, clear vision and masterful technique . Lovely.
Horizontal panoramic, patchwork, beautiful painting that I guess you were becoming abstracted with. Maybe you should’ve put those added colors, orange purple, green blue in the white areas so that it would become the border of your painting, which is always nice to have a border nice and clean all the way around the stretcher. I do love what you do with the towel. I actually see the movement of the towel flaming in the wind, Lovely.
What in the end it kind of became a pixelated vision of fragmented collaged panoramic view. Kind of cool like fusing digital to RI what I call real imagination.
And for the original inspiration of the long, thin, one cliff that was bold of you to paint rocks, but initially what seem to be like a half becomes sort of abstraction and away it looks like an abstract painting more than the rocks until you get close to it I suppose. I hope you finish it and we can see what it looks like.
The three little guys you could’ve just considered a tryptich….

Your beach painting vacation was WAY more productive than my last attempt at drawing things and people on the beach!! Collaging a bunch of disparate stories together to make a cohesive whole isn't something I've seen a lot of people do, especially themed after an odd form factor like that vertical rectangular wall indentation. Also, you kind of got me every time you either made a face when you mentioned chess, or called it "chess, of all things". I can never straight-up enjoy playing chess, even when I sometimes manage to win a game.

What would have really been cool is to have one fixed camera of the whole canvas and take a time-lapse of its evolution. So may of the moments in time would have been keepers? Would really like having a continuous looped played on a super wide oled screen hanging on a wall so what you see is constantly changing. That would be a living work of art!

Second is that this may be a amazing symbol or at least metaphor. You were outside and with people and yet You closed Yourself in a room and made Your OWN windows and used references from app. Welcome in 21 century.
Third and final note that the craft is simply amazing! ❤
