who would’ve known that “Phil Spencer drives up with a dump truck full of cash” was such a relevant thing to say today
💀💀💀
This is one of those games I wish I could experience for the first time again.
Same. Every time I replay it I love it but nothing beats the first time experiencing it and the mystery of it all
I’m excited for the remake on the ps9
You can.
I wish i could wipe my mind clean for Dark Souls 3. Id love to play that again for the first time.
Blessing saying "did they terraform the planet?" Made me chuckle lol. Everyone needs a lore refresher lol
Janet absolutely nailed it here when she was talking about finding new ways to beat enemies (her example being the rope caster). The combat is so fun because you can find so many different ways to win your fights. I think when I first realized what the Tera Blaster arrows did, I lost my mind. Never really started using my trip caster until my NG+ play through.
So I replayed Zero Dawn to refresh myself for Forbidden West & it’s crazy how the first time I played it I didn’t notice how much they referenced the Forbidden West in that game.
I’m also hoping Forbidden West answered the questions left unanswered by Zero Dawn like “Who sent the signal that freed HADES & HEPHAESTUS?”, “Will Aloy rebuild GAIA since besides defeating HADES that was the other reason she was born”, “What happened to the other subordinate functions that were freed alongside HADES & HEPHAESTUS?”, & “Do they have a connection to the Blight?”
Blessing: "How bad can you decimate a country?"
Janet: "We're about to find out in real life!"
This podcast is so great!
Zero Dawn was my GoTY that year. It was my very first Plat Trophy. It was also a game where I used the trophies as a way to slow down my playthrough as I didn't want it to end. Loved the story and the combat. I didn't get a Switch till later and much respect to BoTW but I bounced off that game so hard because of the weapon breaking and haven't gone back after doing 2 of the beasts.
Good point from Janet on how well-designed the hunting grounds are and how much they can teach you about ways to take advantage of using different weapons. I jumped into a New Game+ run and was debating about leaving the hunting grounds alone, but I did one trial and immediately relished the challenge of figuring out the most efficient way to take down machines.
Beat this game last year!! Had so much fun. Top 5 PS4 game!!!
@52:25 that was actually my favorite quote from the game! It was a nice FU to science deniers, way back in 2017 and also a badass moment for Aloy! Great job Janet for pointing it out!
This is still my favorite game to play with absolutely no HUD or indicators. It made the world 100x more immersive and you had to always be listening and looking out for enemies.
Episodes like these in review are such a good idea! It’s nice to be reflective on a game that came out awhile ago. It allows us to take a new perspective on how to approach the game. A cool idea would be to have an in review episode at the end of each generation to rank the exclusives that came out that generation! Long ways away for the PS5, but just a thought!
52:20 Florida is not gonna be around for much longer. Its expected to be underwater within the next 50-80 years. Horizon takes place about 1000 years into the future, so thats why the east coast is pretty much gone in the game
Greg really buried the lead on ZJ the Ball. Thats was ELEVEN gold trophies per level.
Greg, I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one that’s excited to see the hud and all of the menus lol!!!
This was my personal 2017 GOTY. I watched the trailers for this game over and over leading up to release. It was the rare case that the hype I set for it was not only met but greatly exceeded. I loved the story and it definitely drove me to keep playing cause you really wanted to help Aloy on her journey and you felt what she felt along the way. I hate that it was constantly compared to BOTW that year and I hope those who didn't play it because of that will get to experience it now.
To answer Bless's "Where's Florida?" I imagine the tides rose significantly with the downfall of the modern world. In one of the Forbidden West gameplay things there are ruins underwater when Aloy starts swimming so Florida is probably completely submerged or maybe a giant robot cracked a tectonic plate or whatever
Just replaying. There are several data points discussing the rising sea level, due to global warming, before the Faro crisis and how some countries are heavily affected and people having to migrate. It was solving the climate crisis that made Faro industries #1.
19:55
Janet is describing how I played Death Stranding. I always took the most direct route. Often times ended up trying to drive up a mountain because of that.
Just jumped back into HZD to clean up some trophies for the Plat, and man, it looks and feels great to play, but there is so much equipment/crafting/resource types/etc that I completely forgot about. so much to dig into!
When I woke up today I didn’t realize a tirade about ZJ the Ball would be a highlight.
I just finished the game for the first time and wow what a story. Honestly for their first time making an open action RPG it was amazing and great!
RIP to Janet☹️. She died on the sticks too like a real gamer🙏🏽
Crazy the video of Greg showing Tim gameplay of Horizon Zero Dawn is what got me into Kinda Funny
as someone who had to explain all the different ps cards and what they do to my aunt, thank god they are simplifying it
Tuned in for the Horizon re-review and just bought 5 levels of ZJ the Ball, PRAISE GOD
This was absolutely one of my favorite games of the PS4 generation. I loved the combat and the story is one of my favorites in any video game. Not saying people's criticisms aren't valid, but none of them affected my overall enjoyment of the game as a complete package. Certainly room for improvement and I can't wait for Forbidden West to see what they do.
In the end of HZD all I did was wear shield weaver armor for shield regen and lay down alot of the explosive trip wires for mobs to run into when attacking me
Microsoft had to do something huge on PSILY day 🙄
Excited for this tho, recently finished the game myself so this is perfect timing
My favorite thing about Horizon is the world. My least favorite thing is how Guerilla bottlenecks you through the world into precise areas they want you to explore.
This is the kinda podcast I'm talking bout!!!! Xoxoxoxo
Anyone notice the parallels to Princess Mononoke? There seems to be a lot of them.
Also the second one seems to have parallels with Nausicaa.
Just something to think about.
@@shaid1111 okay. So assuming you know both of the movies I'm talking about.
In both Pincess Mononoke and Horizon: Zero Dawn, we have the protagonist, a tribal hunter archetype, who witnesses a large animal with some kind of corruption, attacking their people. They stop the corrupted beast and are then forced to go out into the world and discover why the beast was corrupted.
Of course for Forbidden West we have a lot less info, but the reason I connect it to Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, is because in the first trailer for Forbidden West, it's implied that the corruption is spreading across the land. Which is the exact underlying concept of Nausicaa. Also the protagonist in that was airborne kinda often, so theres that.
Just started so commenting before watching the entire vid, sorry. But for me this was without a doubt GOTY. I got completely sucked into the story, loved the mystery, great balance between open world and stories. Tried to play BOTW afterwards and I need to get hooked to the story to be able to play any open world past the opening environment and just didn’t pull me in. Also, the industry media constantly say new ips, devs leaving their comfort zone, new worlds and everyone voted part 13 of a franchise GOTY and seemed to look for faults but as a first game this has to be one of the best made
My favorite little thing about this game is that if you do certain side quests through out your game those characters appear at the final mission and it makes me feel like I’ve made a impact in the world and do become this hero that’s destined to save the world.
I’ve had a crazy theory about the Spartacus stuff.
I think tier 3 is sadly going to be streaming only, just because currently on PS now, PS4 and 5 titles can be downloaded (the tier 2 offering of Spartacus) but PS3 has to be streamed (tier 3). So I think everything in tier 3 will be streaming only, and adding other generation of consoles for backwards compatibility in that offering is to bolster the value, because people might not be down to subscribe to that tier otherwise. I think it’s tier 3 also just because multi generational backwards compatibility sounds attractive to begin with. And I think PS3 titles showing up on the PSN store could mean that they might even let you buy the backwards compatibility titles you want peace meal (still streaming only), incase people don’t want to subscribe to tier 3 because it might cost a lot and because it’s streaming only. I think it might offset some of the negatives.
*conspiracy cap off*
Blessing always looks great but Greg and Janet's cameras make him look like he's in 8K.
guerilla has been releasing in depth development videos on their youtube channel for the past month if anyone wants more back story. it sounds like they will continue up to the new release and maybe beyond.
Also.... I'm about to get a few new platinum 😂😂😂 cj the ball and zippy the circle let's go!
51:40 that's what the US looks like with raised sea levels at a certain point. The SE US would be underwater.
Here for the ZJ The Ball review
You can whistle a mount over on horizon? Think you guys might have missed that. Plenty of times I had to run away from a battle a whilsted over a mount
Started playing the game for the first time the other day. Credit to the art team, it looks beautiful. The stories are interesting and I like Aloy but the gameplay. Gee I really dislike the game play. Bow combat doesn't feel satisfying to my like with link or Astros playroom. I like to go for stealth before direct combat so the bandit camps were fun at first but I realize the A.I are either incredibly dumb or can see through walls. Overall I didn't love it but really wanted to. Curious how the sequel improves on Zero Dawn.
Janet killin it!
I feel ZJ the balls presence in this comment thread tonight.
Damn where did Blessing get that jumper from
where greg things it's cuba i think thats the tip of florida like Miami because the ice caps have all melted.
I’m glad Janet mentioned the confusing name, because at first I was like, “Wtf they are already reviewing the new Horizon game?!”
Was 100% sure when Greg lifted the controller to show him pressing the button it was going to be to buy the other levels.
late to the party, but spent the holidays and this last week or so getting the platinum for HZD & completing The Frozen Wilds and i gotta say on the PS5 it's a beautiful game, even if there are a lotta lighting bugs, and the machinations & politics of the tribes took half the game for me to care about, but in the second half & Frozen Wilds especially, it completely won me over - an open world i actually enjoyed exploring for 250+ hours.
Blessing exclaiming, "Where's Florida?" had me going. It's flooded and submerged, as it has been many times in the worlds past. If you look at Louisiana, you'll see the same thing. The waters rose. I live in Florida, and my city is 10ft above sea level 🌴🌊
oh you pure souls - if you only knew what you would wake up to the next day. We all just wanted to wake up to this episode
I felt the exact opposite on the Ghost vs Horizon comparison to Janet. Everything main story or optional side stuff in Ghost felt meaningful, important, rewarding and fun to do and I wanted to spend as much time exploring and existing on Tsushima as I could.
With Horizon I got so bored of everything NOT main story related. It felt boring and uninteresting and not worth my time. So I ended up just main lining the story because I was interested in Aloy (though I cant stand the names of characters. It's so cheesy) and the mystery of this world. I also didnt feel any need to experiment with my tools and weapons but I also didnt even want to take the time to play around with it because I just wanted to get through it as quickly as possible.
I'm interested in Forbidden West though because I think and hope it will just be better all around and fit more my style of these games like Ghost or the AC games or Spiderman.
Got the platinum for miles morales and Spider-Man ps4… as far as horizon zero Dawn goes I have that platinum as well 🔥🏆 can’t wait to platinum FORBIDDEN WEST (I also have that thunderjaw funko pop)
Phil said power moves only👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Visuals: Stunning
Gameplay: Fine
Story & Characters: Dull as dishwater
54:28 God, I love Fringe. I should probably rematch it for the 5th time
I gotta play this game again before Forbidden West comes out
HZD has one of the most amazing stories in video games, even if the pacing is weird due to open-world. I recently read Joseph Campbell and realized that this is a perfect 'Hero's Journey' story.
Florida is underwater like it will be dope
It is time for my dream to come true and finally have a KF/Kyle Bosman crossover. He discovered this Christian 'developer' half a year ago and made a video about them. I think he even streamed Zippy a couple of times. Make it happen, Greg.
Yep, it can be found here ruclips.net/video/-oAETcvYxjs/видео.html
FYI, that 3rd location for Forbidden West looks like where underwater Miami would be. I think we might be visiting the lost city of Miami.
And nothing says west like Miami.
Florida and New Orleans are underwater on that holo-map due to Sea levels rising. So they've literally been wiped off the map. Question is, would this holo image of Earth be from 2065ish? Or present day in FW?
i know they're still remote and there's delay and all that, but its really irritating when blessing interrupts Janet just as she says she really fell in love with the game. it sounded like she was building up to explain or talk about it further, though i could be wrong.
I am excited for Forbidden West.
My favourite part of this podcast is the PlayStation Picks part where they don't talk about PlayStation picks LOL
I'd have to replay HZD but I remember at the time I had rated it above ZBotW. 2017 was a really good year and I still stand by Nier Automata being my GOTY.
BotW just feels like it has so much untapped potential and it's narrative is so lacking that it didn't hit for me enough. It's game design has a lot other games can learn from. We see imitations of it now but I don't think any other game has really understood what it did so well, or at least how I see it.
Anyway finished Horizon Frozen Wilds yesterday, wasn't too hard to jump back in and it was a lot of fun. Playing on PS5 at 4k60 was just amazing and I forgot how fun the combat can be.
Edit: To state plainly: 1. Nier Automata 2. Horizon ZD 3. Zelda BotW
P.S. Playing HZD on Hard is fantastic. If you have the dexterity give it a shot. You have to take encounters very seriously, in games where stealth is an option but you could just over power enemies, stealth doesn't matter, but on Hard here it is thoroughly an option because you think the fight might be too tough.
"All games come to Playstation," Greg said ominously.
Doing my first ever real play-through now. I appreciate many aspects of the game but there are some things I wish it had or did better.
I also don’t care about the story or characters :(
I didn’t like this game initially but it was on ps now and had f all else to play and ended loving and playing the shit out of it.
ZJ THE BALL 2C HAS A PLATINUM, BUT MGS GROUND ZEROES DOESN’T??
If they put horizon story in emails and letters then I just won’t get that story and I’m sure I’m not alone.
I love this game. I always thought it was a 10.
Look at the bright side. At least now we won't have to sit through boring COD presentations during PlayStation showcases anymore...
I LOVE JANET PLEASE TRY TO KEEP HER ON THIS SHOW FOR ASLONG AS POSSIBLE
Blessing really summed it up well by saying that Horizon tries to do way too much and that causes friction. That friction is likely what turned me off, but I think the 2nd game will smooth that out for me.
Shoutout to Glinkhawks for being the most annoying thing to fight in the game
Blessing keeps saying he likes the game, but I’m not getting a sense of that at all after watching him talk about it for an hour and a half.
He can't go two sentences without saying "Breath of the Wild" anyway.
@@17Haru17 Which is also stupid because Horizon Zero Dawn came out a week before Breath of the Wild did.
Blessing doesn't like to admit that he may not like a critical darling. It's like he doesn't want to step on toes. I say just speak your truth, if you don't like a critically acclaimed game, own it It's okay to not like something.
Man, Blessing's explanation of the BOTW issue at minute 17 is exactly what happened to me and the reason why I never finished Horizon
Don’t Sleep on BOOMERANG FU! Towerfall’s spiritual successor
Erend!!! I love him so much. I'd be so excited if they put in some romance options. Not going to be bothered if they don't but just a little wishful thinking for Forbidden West haha
Sadly couldn’t get into BOTW. I just have no idea how to play it. This game feels a lot better of an open world
Horizon's world is so imaginative. It really stands out from the other RPGs with the setting and gameplay. Can't believe it has been 5 years, yikes.
You guys didn't talk about the story enough :/ I need more on how much you guys hate Ted faro.
I also didn't fuck with the new sun king. He absolutely wanted Aloy to replace his dead not girlfriend! I wish we had more time
@@Gameonysus it’s funny he apologized to me because of that and I’m like “I don’t remember you being like that!”.
It just goes to show that some of the little things like that can really slip through the cracks in such a dense game like this.
@@JakeBritton94 yeah he apologized to me too but I still don't fuck with him
I played at launch and had the itch to play again but then I just watched my wife play it instead. I noticed all interactions with NPC's just looked like robots talking and got instantly turned off and didn't want to play. Reeeally hope they make it feel like you're not interacting with skin jobs impersonating humans for Forbidden West.
Plot twist... They're really replicants
One more comment, does anyone think Elden Ring will be Horizon Forbidden Wests, Breath of the Wild
Wtf Activision blizzard been bought by xbox !!
Also horizon zero dawn epic qnd can't wait for the sequel, sifu and elden ring
Yeah Microsoft dropped a big one on the industry. Yikes
I absolutely adore the combat in Horizon Zero Dawn. I really cannot see the criticisms.
The combat is great in this game, melee aside.
I seriously can’t wait for the new Horizon
What a day huh
So grateful that Janet called them robot animals rather than the standarized robot dinosaurs, so few of them actually look like dinosaurs.
There is robot dog and robot bird and robot deer. All my robot friends.
@@Gameonysus hoping we get to see the robot platypus and robot capybara by the time the third game comes along.
MICROSOFT BOUGHT ACTIVISION BLIZZARD
Use me as a waiting for KFGD button
Just over 7 minutes... that's how long Blessing could hold out before he had to drop his inevitable Breath Of The Wild mention into this show 😒
M$ just bought Activision for 68 billion dollars
On paper, horizon zero dawn ticks a lot of boxes of things I DON'T like in modern, open world gaming. I've definitely felt 'open world fatigue'. The checkboxes, the resource gathering, the mediocre sidequests, the bandit camps... etc. Add in the overall lifeless feeling of the human cities and I feel like I should dislike this game.
But what makes Zero Dawn special (and why I'm excited for Forbidden West) is that it really succeeds in being something special in spite of these flaws. The story, the visuals, the way you fight the machines and the setting are all really great.
if Forbidden West can hold on to what the game did well and fix up the flaws, it'll be a game of the year contender in a year that is shaping up to be really good.
Great perspective. I’m playing it for the first time and I agree with your point. Though, it does a lot of small things right as well. It’s map and menus are really good. Gameplay is smooth. Enemies are unique and the game is hard and encourages stealth. Loveing it so far.
I couldn't agree more. I personally do not like Zero Dawn overall for a lot of the flaws you mention, but it was the things that the game did well that drew me in and held my attention for the short amount of time I spent with it, and I hope that the 2nd game will be a much more enjoyable experience for me bc they lean into exploration, more fun traversal and combat, and an engaging story and characters.
@@TsunamiJMG I feel like encouraging stealth isn't enough. The stealth has to also be good and I don't think it is.
100% agree. Played the first half in Oct 2020 and dropped it due to the fatigue. Picked it back up a couple weeks ago and just ran through the main story missions. Same with Ghost of Tsushima, currently on my second break from the game from the fatigue.
Days like this is why these shows should be live. Rereviewing a 5 year old game while MS just bought Activision
First I've heard of that, but I still think it's OK to just talk about Sony games on this show even when there's Microsoft news. Last thing we need is more "how should Sony respond?"-talk (though the prospect of Crash being a Microsoft mascot now is kind of ironic).
KFD is live on twitch every day. They talk about that forsure
@@CD-of4gb because Im pretty sure Sony biggest yearly selling game (1st party or 3rd party etc) will now be a xbox exclusive! That seems significant for Sony to me, smh
Played this game for the first time a couple month ago. It was decent, filled with open world filler though and boring traversal. Hoping the 2nd one lives up to the hype tho!
My exact feelings. The copious amounts of filler in the open world and boring ass traversal really turned me off, but I'm hoping the 2nd game fixes those problems bc I really like the world!
Remember when kinda funny used to talk about games? I remember.
Amazing game! Let's hope they give the characters some good dialog this time. Only downfall for me was the poor script the game had.
I've put over 12 hours into this game twice trying to figure out what all the hype is about and it just didn't click for me. Sure its beautiful looking, but the combat felt extremely repetitive, the world was large and felt empty, and the story didn't grip me.
