Thanks for the walk through! At about 6:10 you turn on the compressor but that also turned on the chorus. How did you do that? Turn on two effects at once with one press in manual mode.
IMO, its worth the extra $ to get the GX-100, especially when using the device in Manual (Pedal Board) Mode and not having to press 2 buttons simultaneously to engage an operation. Tip, add between 1-14ms of delay to thicken notes and dont over compress beyond 2:1.
I'm trying to decide between the GX-100 and GX-10. Given the limited number of footswitches on the GX-10, I'd like to know more about the Bank/Number control mode, where you can select from any of 3 patches and also use the CURR NUM feature of pressing the selected patch's footswitch again, to give you the CTL functionality for each patch. In this mode, do you have access to "long presses" of footswitches? Can you change the default behavior of pressing 2 switches at once (the default being bank up/down)?
In bank/number mode, there isn't long press functionality. It's simply up/down through banks and then select one of the three the presets (memories) with in that bank. You can get CTL #2 use with an external footswitch. Thanks for watching. TJ
It isn't complicated to use really. It is however better designed for a more basic and smaller setup than how I've presented it here in the video. This so if you need to go deeper into getting the most out of it, you can see how it can be done with the 3 footswitch limitation. Thanks for watching, TJ
I haven't tested MIDI with the GX-10 yet. There's no reason it shouldn't work via the USB C connection either direct to your computer or a USB host device to other 5-pin DIN MIDI gear. Thanks for watching, TJ
Differences in number of footswitches, rear panel inputs/outputs, and some user interface changes to accommodate the size differences,. The sound is the same. I'll be posting soon a demo of both the GX-10 and GX-100. Please subscribe. Thanks for watching, TJ
Boss units do have their own characteristics. Much the same way as other modelers also do. One thing about the Boss sound is it very nicely cuts through a mix. Thanks for watching, TJ
The drive and amp section on this unit is absolute POO! But that'd digital distortion though. Everything else is amazing on the unit and I find it worth it for the reverb, delay and modulation. People keep telling me that I should upload demos of this pedal with a high cut and a low cut but I have to disagree.
@@tjontheroad I don't think there is a digital drive available today that sounds good. That is just me being a snobby sound engineer but I am even more saddened by everyone on youtube copying the same bad advice for these drive units and cutting out the highs. It makes it sound even worse in my opinion and that is not what boss intended or they would have included the hi cut on every single drive.
Like a good steak, you only cut off the fat ;) Too much high or low kills the flavor. That said, almost every mixing engineer worth anything aways seems to go for those high/low cuts for guitar. Not all digital is bad and Boss gear has been on countless hit recordings.
@@tjontheroad You're mistaken. I am a professional sound engineer so mixing is very basic to me. You only cut out "the fat" when you are recording a signal that went through the air and it needs to combine with a band. Even then I would not cut this aggressively. There is no need to add low and hi cuts to your device when it goes into a guitar amp. The guitar amp does NOT produce those frequencies and if you can hear any adjustment, you are actually removing frequencies that you can hear, thus making it muddy. The idea that you should cut high and low comes from mixing and MASTERING. While it is true that you are doing production with your pedalboard, it isn't true that you want to apply those principles before post production. That is the job of the mixer, not the guitar player. If you cut these frequencies before they hit the mix, you destroy the sound. Most youtubers don't understand this.
Really great overview for live playing. One of the few videos covering this right now. Thanks.
Thanks for watching! Cheers, TJ
Thank you for taking the time to create this demo/review. Very enlightening and answered many of my questions. Thanks again. Stay safe.

big thanks for this in depth look, I was on the fence but you make it seem and sound worth taking the plunge on.

Excellent video demo of this product. Many thanks.

This has been a life saver! I could not fathom how to make presets and this has made things a lot clearer. Thanks! 👍👍
You’re welcome. Please share and subscribe. Thanks for watching. TJ
Expecting mine tomorrow, this helped a lot, cheers...

You assign on/off multiple effect blocks to an individual pedal in the assignment menu.

Yep, I traded up to the GX-100. See link in description for comparison to the GX-10.

It just seems like this modeler is pretty complicated to use. Not very user friendly. But thanks for taking the time to explain everything

@@tjontheroadthanks for the reply and info. I’ve been on the fence about either getting a boss ir-2 or the boss gx-10
Have you tried using midi with the gx10?

Question:
Is GX any easier to use than GT-1000?
Sorry, I've never used the GT-1000. Thanks for watching, TJ
it have a "nasal" sound

@@tjontheroad thanks for the info, i play bass, will try to see more info about this unit
As I said in the video, I think the GX-10 is ideal for bass. Everything you'd want in a small package.

There are high/low cuts applied via the global EQ in my sound demo. I don't think it sounds like dukie but YMMV.
