The opening to this episode convinced me that I would 100% read a magic novel written by Kathleen (or perhaps 10 stories available on the wizards website...)
I'm not the only one to say this, but Kathleen's storytelling in these campaigns has a very "Douglas Adams-esque" quality to it, and I mean that as the highest of praise.
Edit: people pointed out the direct references, which are there for sure, but i meant more the characterization of the people and the world moreso
I mean, "The Omenhiker's Guide to the Multiverse" is a pretty direct reference, but yeah.
Esque is putting it lightly. I'd say starting with a 5 min overt HHGTG reference is bordering on pastiche 😅
The intro is superb and I'm only a half hour in but have laughed several times
I'm watching this, and all I can thing about is, "Doesn't the use of certain Magic in a highly evolved society by law enforcement figures require court issued warrant or writ, otherwise we're violating the civil liberties of certain individuals?"
Not gonna lie, now I want to run a law-and-order game where the characters are members of Law Enforcement tasked with solving a crime. Oh, my table's gonna hate me. "Oh, so you want to raise the spirit of the diseased. Are you aware his religious preferences include a ban on any necromancy spells use on his corpse? " and "Oh, I'm sorry. You want to scry the crime scene to see who was around? You're going to need a warrant. Also, did you know that any evidence and confessions from the use of spells like Charm Person are not admissible in court?" At least the witness stand being a permanent Zone of Truth is allowed.
I would love to play this campaign >.>
1:40:00 Is that Lazav?
- Unusual behavior for the minister
- Emphasizes importance of tact, caution, and information gathering
- Mentions spies and is unusually well informed
- Asks Avenir to spy on the Agency rather than bringing down the hammer of law
- "I do not think that something that springs up to fill a power vacuum can have entirely altruistic motives," this is a very Dimir sentiment, as Kathleen noted on an episode of TTC, the Dimir's role is to keep power from coagulating on Ravnica.
- It's Kathleen D(im)evere
🤯
Yea after reading the wiki about the Agency I was like this is Dimir coming back as they where originally in the shadows.
I did it! I did a full rewatch of Season 1 and it's phenomenal! I loved it. The Hitchhikers Guide feel definitely shines though. Now I'll have to reread my Ultimate Guide as well! Keep up the good work!
I love how the dog side-quest seemed to be completely unplanned and Kathleen is improvising it beautifully.
Weeeeeewwwwwwww, let's explore the consequences of last season's actions!!!
Edit: Kathleen, your box text is positively *inspired*. The whiplash of "what is a 'fondoleum' and how do i go there" to the cultural intricacies of a plane where death is inconsequential is a fun ride.
Wow, Enor got BITTER. Prison changed you, man.
😆
Slokk's Swampball career sounds a LOT like my experience playing Orcs in Blood Bowl. They just... Methodically kept knocking people out
How familiar are you with murder?
I dabble.
Kathleen, this campaign is a treat and I'm loving the references to Hitchhiker's Guide.
Players, I appreciate that you get sidetracked by the same things I would be. Disregard plot hook, talk to dog. 🐕
The Agency: Removers of fourth walls and lampshaders of the players habits :P
This might be the funniest (read: best) session opening box text reading I've ever heard.
Lol I know Mo would've given the twins a big hug without any notice 😂
While I was going to call an audible on casting detect thoughts on something undead, I had to look up the 5E version of the spell and realized it is a legal use in 5E, unlike prior editions of D&D or Pathfinder, which expressly state they are mind-affecting spells, which undead are immune to.
Kapiza Durak sounds somewhat at home with the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale.
I've noticed Kathleen loves to smash phonemes together so that all her character names have a certain mouthfeel, especially Ks, Xs, Zs, and Ss. Feels like Armenian names could be a goldmine for inspiration on-the-fly as I had an Armenian professor describe his culture's name as being CLOSE to English except for like one syllable/letter (Dake instead of Dave, Jamet instead of Janet, Leoba instead of Leona, etc.)
I really appreciated the Reboot reference. My 90’s childhood remembers that show very fondly.
Loving the art of the cutey-bug. 8u8
And. HOW DARE!
Great campaign so far, can't wait to see what else happens.
My parents tell me that, when I was a young Vogoss, I'd knock myself over running into walls, get up laughing, then repeat. They thought I'd grow up to play Swampball, but I didn't end up with a high enough STR modifier for it. And my CON was too low for Swampcycling. I do still try to Swampwalk on the regular, especially when the boletes are in bloom near my... Swamphome.
My brother grew up with a Vogoss that ended up in Swampracing, but it was never as popular here as it is in other districts.
Still can't get over how much Enor sounds like Pistaccio
I enjoy this kind of content and wish to see more of it. Praise the algorithm.
Hello, I am Vogoss and this is my brother Vogoss and my other brother Vogoss
1:06:38 slokk as dog interrogator is very good
1:03:00 OH MY GOSH VALENCIAAAAA 🥰🤩
I already cannot wait until the next episode!
The post death drugs to stymie speak with dead is very clever.
This series is so much fun, great job everyone.
Love this series. Thank you
Kathleen: "You could have someone who knows him talk to him..." Players: "LETS INTERROGATE A PET"
you know
this is not the first time I've seen Wheeler's hands . But only now comprehension came to me that he's FREAKING TATTED as HELL
I like Ben’s placement of Nog as non-guild detective; the first campaign had a lot of Avenir and Enor doing the talking about official business and it’s cool to see Nog taking that role as well.
It's too bad that Serge couldn't reprise Molander, but Wheeler is an excellent successor. He's clearly having a lot of fun with it.
I'm getting confused with all the intertwining of districts and precincts. As far as I can tell, we're so far mostly in the second precinct of the sixth district, yes?
Yes!
that feel when the intro music changes but the new intro is also a bop
commenting to assist in the algorithm
The political intrigue here is fascinating
35:26 best ghost sound. 😂
45:31 with left beef
Comment for the comment god!
So with omen paths being a thing, does that mean azor can just stroll into ravnica?
I'm not smart, there's at least a '*ball' for each basic land type.
I'm generally liking the series so far and I get why Ben is doing most of the talking but I wish he'd give everyone else a chance to take charge some times. Big Travis energy
Everyone has a chance to jump in. And sometimes scenes are roleplayed towards a certain player. It happens.
Some people get the spotlight in certain sessions, and others have their own time to shine.
