I’ve been playing MTG on and off for 23 years. My way back grass roots in the game were orzhov, back in the days of working like a dog to keep Lord of the Pit happy. I came out of a 6 year hiatus from the game about 2 years ago to try the new (to me) commander format. I’ve been struggling really bad thus to get a foothold in the format... Until now.
Thank you so much for posting! this is an excellent primer, on an amazing commander that speaks volume to us old grindhouse value-engine loving pugs.

I play Envoy of Ghosts incase someone has a creature strat. Sure I have to ramp her onto the field but once she's there she's the perfect reason not to attack me
I was watching this and thinking to myself, "If I don't see Krav and Regna here, I'm SOO gonna troll the comments." Seconds later, you mentioned Krav and Regna, which are the commanders of my Orzhov deck. And Teysa was in my prerelease kit so you better believe it went into that deck. I had to review your deck tech because I like checking out other ideas that maybe I never saw a card I could use. The vampire from Ravnica Allegiance, for example! I don't know how I missed that one! Thanks for your deck techs, DJ, you rock!
OMG this deck is so awesome. What about Open the Graves or cards like Secure the Wastes and True Conviction... Man the token synergies in B/W are sooo good with this deck. I can't wait to see this deck in action. I'm definetly getting the Guild Kit, thanks DJ :)

I just built my Teysa, Orzhov Scion deck after being so hyped for allegiance and I have to say it's super fun and genuinely competitive. I have Teysa Karlov as an alternate commander due to her being so synergistic with the deck and being a nice change of pace. I am a HUGE fan of the treasure mechanic and for anyone who hasn't seen yet, THE NEW TREASURE TOKENS IN ALLEGIANCE ARE ORZHOV THEMED! OMA has awesome metal coins for treasure tokens that I also find super cool.
BTW good luck on Game Knights dude, can't wait to watch tm.
I'm really happy right now, as it seems I have finally improved a bit at deck building seeing how similar our lists are!
I made a list for my Teysa Commander Deck because I really like the idea behind it, and my list is like 90% your list. :)
I actually can't believe HOW similar our decks are! Even my "stupid" ideas are the exact same as yours! :P
Like Ancient stone Idol, Revel in Riches or even the My little pony farm :D
But really, the core Strategy and build is absolutly fun!
In my second game yesterday I already pulled of an infinite combo which I didn't even know was in there.
Dude, you nailed this deck! Great ideas. Reminds me of my Meren B/G deck. Sac outlets are so fun! You have not lived until you recur Kokusho three times in a row. I can't even imagine with this commander. YIKES!

When I brainstormed a deck list (that was pretty similar to your aristrocrats version), I was so hyped about the fact that Teysa's effect double-dips on Elenda, so that she essentially creates four times as many tokens. :D When Elenda hits the board, shit gets real!
I also put Cathodion, Burnished Hart (not directly affected by Teysa, but still good) and Boreas Charger in for ramp. The combination of Emeria Shepherd, Teysa, Cathodion and Burnished Hart also gets you every basic land in your deck into play. :D
Sac Cathodion: add 6 colorless (two times three, because of Teysa), crack Hart -> one plains, one swamp. Shephert's triggers gets you Cathodion into play and Burnished Hart into your hand. Then cast Burnished Hart for the remaining 3 colorless and repeat.
I love that deck already!

He changed the reveilark input. Leaves the battlefield effect if it dies does trigger her effect. Only if it dies.
That is correct. I built the deck before release but I should have checked the interactions before I released yesterday. Sorry for the psych-out.

I had this big long explanation of my Vampire team commander deck but he basically covered the entire thing of the deck in the end with both decks they have double strike, haste ,lifelink, death touch, vigilance, Trample, indestructible, and about 400 +1/+1 counters
This video has been invaluable for me. Definitely building this deck, not your exact list, but similar.
I played Teysa yesterday with only half of the things shown in this video and still was sooo powerful. Creating 34 token with Spiritkeeper was glorious!
Finally, I've been looking for a comprehensive Teysa Tokens deck and DJ delivers as always. ^_^

I was hoping you would mention the interaction between Divine Visitation and Requiem Angel! If you have Teysa out and those two enchantments, each time one of those angel tokens dies, it creates two more angel tokens because they aren't spirits, which can each turn into two more angel tokens! And even if you don't have Teysa out, each angel still replaces itself which can be great if you need the creatures to sacrifice.

Idk if you thought about this card, but Boreas Charger is land ramp that I think will trigger twice with teysa. And land ramp is probably better than other forms of ramp as it's removed less often and punished less often.

This list is really good, but might I offer some suggestions?
Nim Deathmantle is an excellent option in Teysa. Even though it doesn't make a difference if you trigger it twice, you can just combo off with Kokusho, Ashnod's Altar, and Sifter. Kokusho dies, makes 2 tokens, sac them both to altar, pay for Nim revival. Repeat.
Deathrender is excellent as it let's you drop 2 creatures onto the battlefield.
Spirit Bonds is excellent for token making and as a sac outlet that lets you protect your important stuff
Black Market means you get a TON of mana on deaths
Lastly, the Monuments from Amonkhet are great reduce rocks AND they give you great buffs when you cast stuff.
Sorry if someone already said this, but angelic visitation also combos with requeum angel to get infinite etb/death triggers if that matters :)

Worth noting that Mimic Vat does not prevent cards from hitting the graveyard, as per gatherer: "The imprint ability will trigger whenever a nontoken creature is put into any graveyard from the battlefield, not just your graveyard."
So it wont' prevent Teysa's ability from triggering.

Game knights is going to be sick... I hope... Jimmy's deck and Josh's deck both look brutal. And DJ's ideas are looking wicked, too.
Don't forget Black Market for extra mana whenever a creture dies! And it combos amazingly well with Pawn of Ulamog and Sifter of Skulls, creature dies, you get Spawn tokens and a counter on Black Market. Sac the Spawns for mana and add extra counters on Black market, add to it Smothering Tithe and Pitiless Plunderer and you have mana for days!
Wound reflection and Archfiend of Despair with Kokoshu the Evening Star wound be awesome.
Teysa is hands down going to be my new favorite commander. But I'm a total Vorthos players, so the deck is going to have to be as thematically appropriate as possible. Most notably, I'm building the deck to focus on Revel in Riches and Treasure tokens. It's gonna be great.
So you sacrifice something with Ashnod's Altar, Twilight drover gets two +1/+1 and Pitiless Plunderer makes 2 treasure. You use the mana and 1 treasure to remove a +1/+1 from Twilight Drover and you net 1 +1/+1 Counter, 1 Creature, and 1 Treasure. Reapeat 1000 times with a Zulaport Cutthroat and win the game.
It's a lot of pieces but they're all relatively cheap and unless someone knows the combo it's not immediately threatening until they need instant speed removal to stop you. I love decks with multiple win conditions. You waste all of your removal on one threat or another but eventually something hits the field that you simply cannot stop.
TWILIGHT DROVER!!!! One of my favorite cards from original Ravnica!
Hey DJ, can you do a deck tech for Magic Arena using only the cards available right after the tutorial. I’m sure many players doesn’t want to use the precon mono color deck given to everyone but making a decent deck out of them requires tricky balancing that most just wreck due to personal preferences so a couple of deck build will help 😁

I feel as though Elesh Norn should’ve been in this deck because making your 1/1 tokens into 3/3 lifelink vigilance would be valuable especially Norns -2/-2 which would be a mini board wipe and make your tokens attacks that much more valuable I realize that it would be situational and going tall with tokens that are meant to be cannon fodder isn’t something this deck wants to really go but it’s still an idea that could easily change the tide of the game even if you got only one swing with your super tokens

Quick question. Mimic vat. It doesnt say "if a creature would die, exile it instead", it says WHEN a creature dies, you may exile it" its not a replacement effect. Its a triggered ability. You still get dies triggers.

Helm of the Host is just wonderful in the format. Though it's a *wee* bit difficult to actually pull off with how expensive it is, it's pretty much a wincon, and wincons are allowed to be a little pricey, right?
I do not know how powerful it is but you can go infinite with angelic accord, requiem angel and any free sacrifice, pretty protected in comparison to creature based infinite combos, he talked about both cards but it seems he did not notice this combo potential

I'm surprised that Harvester of Souls, a 5/5 deathtouch for 2 black and 4 colorless was left off of this list. It's ability "whenever A creature dies, draw a card" is phenomenal. You get 1 card for their creature dying, but 2 cards for your creature dying... and NO LOSS OF LIFE for drawing! It's an auto include in my opinion.

This one looks great. Just one question, just saw the Game knights episode, and the decklist from here and there differ a tiny bit, just wondering though, the swap of some cards were made to add a little bit more consistency? For example Revel in riches is absent in the Game knights one, so you didnt want another win condition anymore? As i said love it in general, just wondering :)
My build is coincidentally nearly identical, Teysa is so good she builds herself.
Arena Rector with Lilianna and Elspeth Sun's Champ seems pretty damn good here,
I got the erebos secret lair and athreos was the kick i needed to finally build this deck and it is soooo good. Looking for some ideas i might have missed.
17:37 There it is :P That said, I feel like DJ might me overestimating Teysa’s ability to stay on the board. She’s a huge threat. That also being said, the deck is great without her which is also why she’s so good.

I use Death Baron and open the graves in my Teysa deck.
Not really a part of the crazy engine you've managed to make but Phantom General is a 4-drop that just gives a straight +1/+1 to creature tokens. Like I said not over the top but I still feel it would be viable.

Infinite mana combos are a thing, especially with cards like Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar.
Those are both free sac outlets though. PROVING THEIR POWER! :)

You might add in Rootbound Defenses and other cards with Populate.
Mimic Vat exiles the creature after it hits grave
no Sheoldred, Whispering One? I would have figured that Praetor to be an auto include. Vault of the archangel is also really good here, giving all your tokens lifelink and death touch
Fun fact that card reads: 7 mana the whole table gangs up against you. Strong? Indeed.
also, another card I would include here is Bontu's monument, since its on theme and everything, it has "when you cast a creature spell, each opponent loses 1 life and you can 1 life, Oktra's monument is also on theme, it creates tokens when ever you cast a creature spell, so every creature you cast get a 1/1 warrior companion with it that has vigilence. so I wpould include those too

I love my Ayli deck and the best part is its so easy to switch commanders to teysa and put Ayli in the 99.

Why no Darkest Hour though? That card is ridiculous in this deck if you are including Teysa, Orzhov Scion.
Dude! I'm surprised that you didn't even mention Ogre Slumlord, Black Market, and Demon of Dark Schemes! Ogre Slumlord will create two rats whenever a nontoken creature dies, and you'll have an army of 1/1 deathtouch, vigilante, lifelink rats! Black Market will get you tons of mana, and Demon of Dark Schemes will get you lots of energy, allowing you to bring back your important creatures.
did you consider lifeline for the deck? when used with altar of dementia could be an alternate win con.

Forrest Blah correct. DJ was hoping for a long game and technically azorious control is meant to draw out the game. But since no one was really trying to get teysas triggers and DJ was seeming a bit shady with his plays as well as jimmy hitting his lands. It’s one bad pasta night
