Fiorentina is the football team of Firenze. The city's name is Firenze (Florence, in english) the cradle of the Renaissance.
Man that’s brutal! Had a quick look at Wikipedia. . It’s probably like soccer before it was codified. The goal is 50 m wide with 4 goalies. When team scores they swap round till next goal. There are currently 4 teams that play in an annual tournament. Anything pretty much goes apart from kicking the head it looks like!

Glad you looked at this. As I said there are full hour long documentaries on this (I don't expect you to react to one) that shows much more 'play'. It appears that the job of the 'forwards' is to 'distract' the other team by any means while the 'backs' work their way past to score.
Four neighborhoods in Florence. The team you can play for is determined by where you were born. Only 3 games played in a year (2 semifinals and the final).
I believe the ball is filled with something other than air, a bit like a medicine ball.

You are working your way through the different types of football. I assume you are going to get to the original version that predates them all.
Some years ago Calcio Storico was much more violent. Now there are many restraining rules to the hits you could make.

The wrong thing is to think to calcio storico as sport or only a game. It's firstly a 500 years old tradition, and the prize is glory. No money.
It's not Football but Calcio Storico Fiorentino; where it comes from ancient roman's ball game and where football/soccer ,amrican football,rugby,handball,etc...they come from! And there are Rules !

How thoroughly brilliant if bonkers! Makes me think of rugby football though and the four home nations, the white of England, the blue of Scotland, the Red of Wales and the green of Ireland all fighting for supremacy but then uniting as one for the Lions. Four packs coming together as one pride of lions.
