WhatsApp users! It's been recently found out that WhatsApp is gonna get discontinued soon in KaiOS. New users can't register a phone number anymore, and it seems that by next year the app will not be operational anymore.
My problem with smartphones is that it's almost mandated to own one... banking, buying tickets, parking meters, shop loyalty cards and a lot of things only exist as apps.
I highly recommend trying to fit in a dumb phone in your life. If you still have to use a smartphone, you can just keep it without mobile data and use Wi-Fi Tethering from your dumb phone when necessary (if you find one that's capable of doing that). I currently keep a smartphone in my backpack that I can use for Google Maps if necessary, but the flip phone is in my pocket.
@@ArnauDisrepairSo this phone (the Energizer E282SC) supports wifi tethering? I'm considering getting one, and wifi tethering is a feature I really need.
That's a good video! I'm a Japanese writer. The name is ``Mikan Oshidari(忍足みかん🍊)''. I'm writing a book called ``I Want to Quit Being a Smartphone Slave.'' I switched to a flip phone because of my smartphone addiction. It's all about mental health. I no longer get tired of smartphone screens, notification sounds, and unnecessary connections. It's comfortable. Only the really necessary communications will come to your flip phone. There is no inconvenience. I think flip phones should be reevaluated more globally. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Hi, thanks for your comment! I looked up your name on Google and saw an article about you and I really like your approach to smartphones. I'm quite interested in this book you're writing, and I'll totally check it out once it's done.
@@ArnauDisrepair Thank you for your reply...and for looking into me. My book ``I want to quit being a slave to my smartphone'' was written in Japanese. Too bad there's no English version... (There are many illustrations, so even if you can't read the main text, you might enjoy it a little.) But my dream is to publish an English version someday. I hear that there is growing interest in smartphone addiction overseas as well. (The other day I saw an article in the New York Times about turning your smartphone into a flip phone.) I want to tell people all over the world about the horrors of smartphone addiction and the benefits of flip phones.
Thanks for the review, I was eyeing this phone so I'm glad you were able to give me some information on it. Only thing I would have liked maybe is for this phone to be slightly less bloated and faster.
Once I pay off my smartphone I might get a flip phone permanently. Going to have to get one today bc my phone screen randomly broke one day which is a common problem with the model I have that I should’ve known about before I bought my phone. Anyways smartphones just aren’t reliable anymore. All I need is something with sms and calling. I’d like something with Snapchat and Discord, but that’s why I have a computer and iPad.
in your goal to escape the smartphones and the waste of time on social media, you bought this phone just to tell us it has a WhatsApp, youtube, facebook on it. Good job bro
The RUclips/Facebook experience sucks so much on this that it's like it doesn't exist. And I don't consider WhatsApp as a bad thing, as it's for communication, and that's what a phone's supposed to do, right?
My smartphone really started to annoy me, using it too much, wasting my time. Now I too wil get a dumb/featurephone (I too rely on whatsapp) and use any other apps on my pc or my tablet. Got the Samsung galaxy tab A8 for a cheap price, it's good enough to run any apps I need, and large enough that I wont use it much. Smartphones aren't phones, they're PDA's you can also call with.
That's nice! If I were someone that carries a bag around, I would also do that. Funnily enough, that's how the first couple of smartphones pre-iPhone were. Just PDAs that happened to take calls. Some Nokia "smartphone" was literally a PDA that clipped on to a normal cell phone.

Did you root the phone in order for it to look the way it does? (no annoying google assistant and google on the left side of the screen). Like 6 months ago I bought an Energizer kaios candybar phone and it was a total let down. The software was fine but the hardware was so bad (call audio coming out from THE SPEAKER and the keypad was so hard to press). Is the flip factor better? Is the keypad comfortable and snappy? Does the sound during calls come from the right "output" exit?
Nice review. I noticed Google Maps icon on the screen. Does it actually work (gps)? I would like to give the phone to my parents and send myself a permanent gps pin on Google Maps. Would that be possible? That would be a great solution for seniors.

To bad that USA only has Flip phones that i like. And they don't work in EU. KaiOS really sucks. It needs a clean Android OS. And most dumb Flip phones don't have 5G. It's a battery consumption problem. Nokia still doesn't want to make a durable rugged budget android flip phones. I need android because i want to use WhatsApp and Stocard.
I don't know why you do this, like... If you don't want to be distracted by social media just delete the social media apps. You're downgrading to something so bad for a problem that doesn't even exist.
I've done that! But instead of using the app, I would use the website. The whole point is to downgrade to something where there is no way I would be able to use social media.
@@ArnauDisrepair But downgrading to something that bad is not worth it. Just think a bit before opening the website, or add a family lock to yourself. So you can avoid entering social media and websites. I could not use that even if they paid me, not because I couldn't use social media, more that the experience is so bad I would rather have nothing.
Yes, I've also done that. I've done every trick in the book to prevent me from using social media. It works for a week or so, but I always end up using it anyway. I've been trying to do this since January. My decision to use a flip phone is because it's the only thing that is truly working. With it, as you've said, trying to use social media is so bad that it's better to not try. I can still take phone calls, and I can still do text messaging (I'm now used to using the phone keypad, and I'm good enough to have a conversation) but social media is so painful that I can't use it, and that's what I intended to happen.
@@ArnauDisrepair I am not saying that the social media experience is bad, I'm talking about your flip phone's user experience. I am fine with social media. I check it from time to time to keep in touch with friends or if I'm bored... And, as I said, you can just put a parental control to yourself, and put a password only your friend knows, or a sibling knows, so you can't remove it. I don't understand how you could remove that.
Well, I don't have the same experience you have with social media. Honestly, I don't give a damn about what my friends post on Instagram and if I do, I'd rather ask them in person. Twitter makes me miserable, and RUclips wastes too much of my time. If I'm bored, I'd rather have to call a friend or play some video game. I do use RUclips at night usually, but I'm only signed in on my tablet, so I can only use it when I'm home. And about the password thing, I'm often the only person at home. I don't have siblings and my parents are at work for most of the day. Not having access to the password would cause me to find some web browser that doesn't work with the parental controls (probably Firefox in iOS?) and just use that.
I've been thinking about buying something like this as well because it can run most of the apps i use like youtube, messenger and wattpad, it is also more comfortable to use as it doesn't strain your hand because of its size and more comfortable to use the keypad .. Been planning to switch this year 🫶 but still looking what phone i should choose. Thank you
