yeah not even 10sec and you named my motivation... here in Germany we still have 2g and I am lucky to use my first smartphone an huawei ideos x3. Because it's so old you can't use the play store. I installed a text editor and a voice recorder, mp3 player was onboard and in theory I could use maps. Browser doesn't work anymore cause it can't handle modern certificates anymore. So it is technically a dumbphone - just phone, text, a notepad and a recorder for my ideas and an mp3 player. Great thing. And you can change the battery. Thanks for the video Josiah - maybe there will be another one from you....

One thing you could do, if you had something to set it up with, is getting a smartspeaker, and hook up stuff like Spotify, you smarthome gadgets, etc., so you can do most thinks off the smartspeaker.
I got a Nokia flip phone and am waiting for a SIM card to get it activated this week. Pretty excited to disconnect just a bit. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a year now and am ready to take the plunge.
I want to try this! I love my smartphone, but I do spend too much time on it...I'm on disability and it helps me get though the times I'm really fatigued. The reason I have a smart phone is for when I attend college, it is cheaper for the hotspot, it really helped one night getting online help with math which I am horrible at...and during the last semester when one of my classes was online. I have been thinking abkut getting an ipod cause I hate it when I get a message when I'm listening to music...
Videos I've seen that are more in-depth on the Light Phone 2 share it does have hot spot capability. Apparently if whatever provider you have doesn't let it work, they sell a $30 plan themselves to ensure hot spot functionality.
I have a smartphone that is running the latest android version and I rarely use a smart phone that is to make and take calls. I have set a schedule timer mode to make my phone power off at a night and power on at the morning, I have uninstalled most of the apps using adb including RUclips and Social media apps. I use focus mode on my android to remind me of the time if I'm using any app for non stop 1 hour. Also I can make digital payments via a smartphone.Don't waste money on a light phone or any other dumb phone. Just try to minimize the usage of your smartphone by digital methods. You absolutely don't need a dumb phone period .
I agree, if you can restrain yourself then a dumb phone is not needed. I tried the on phone timers to limit myself but I often removed the timers for a day so I could keep scrolling. You clearly have better self control than me! I wanted the dumb phone because I struggled with the restraint to not use the smart phone.
It is not about smartphone addiction, It's all about the app addiction that you are going to overcome, Even if you restrict to use apps from one platform(phone) you'll still be ended up using the apps from other platform (just say windows or a tablet).Self control is a must for everyone.
I switched to a dumb phone a year ago. I had wondered why my Nokia 8000 stopped working with text to speech interesting to know its wide spread. I am sick of the OS, the double pressed keys, how stinking slow it is! I really wish someone could make a 4G phone that just worked without charging $300 for it! Its ridiculous!
Dog you people pay 800 to 1200 dollars for a the new iphone or samsung. Believe me that is a fair price, and the company doesn't do yearly releases. So naturally they need to overcharge so they can make a profit.
Dude dropped a video got 30+ k views and left the room, this vid is awesome, I have the CAT S22 flip and I love it even more than my Samsung galaxy, it feels special and unique, I feel I'm more in the moment, my attention span has increased, I used to need netflix or anything on the background to be able to work, now I just sit on my chair and code for hours without distractions, trully a life changer
I switch to the Light Phone 2 a while back, could care lest to justify it, I just love to hear why others have switched. I didn't have social media addiction (unless you consider YT) I just made the switch cause well I allowed YT to take most of my time vs reading my books.
I’m thinking about getting my hands on a used MacBook and trading in my iPhone 14 Plus for a light phone 2. I’d like to be able to use my phone for communication strictly. My main problem is navigation
If only one company made a compact QWERTY keypad phone with a decent Google Maps (I don't need the full smartphone OS, just a decent map apps would do), then I think I'd be set. Best option would be the last BB Key phone, but that would be too expensive :/
Great video! I started with a Nokia 225 4g for $45 and that was infuriating with the texting, but I enjoyed using a dumbphone so I moved up to the TCL Flip 2 ($20) and I LOVE that phone, though I don't text on that phone despite it being a much better experience. However I recently ordered the LP2 and waiting it's arrival! My husband's had his LP2 for over a year and I've loved "using" it and playing around with it, and figured it's much better for texting as well as meeting some of my other needs.

I switched to a dumb phone a few months ago, here is my thoughts. I don't mind it. It's not felt life changing or anything. All and I mean ALL my friends make fun of my over it though lol. I am switching back.... but not for that reason. This god forsaken phone I got, nokia 2780, is so buggy that I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to handle it. Apps constantly crash, I could be in the middle of typing a text message and it would crash. It's just so bad and seems to be getting worse. It's been 2 months it's not worth dealing with it anymore. For the first 2 weeks (and time during my old phone being broken, oops) my old old phone was a little backup but somehow I lost that so I'm stuck with this little nokia now. I wish there were some better, cheap options out there that really fit my criteria. Speaking of, when I bought this phone I thought it had hotspot, which I was going to use in my car for it's radio, but apparently not? It was supposed to but it doesn't... Must be a result of dealing with regions and providers. Similar to you, I also use a 4gb ipod nano 3g which holds all my spotify liked songs and I've used that for about 2 years and I just recently bought a super cheap 25 cent type notebook to write in. Overall, I still spend way too much time on my computer, it doesn't make a huge difference than having a smart phone to me except when in public, althought I like how you mentioned it doesn't intrude on other tasks you do at home, I guess it's got that going for it. I think having a smart phone in my pocket again just so I can google stuff when I need to would be great. Maybe if I bought a super cheap android and made a custom os to slim it down to the basics or something it could be a good fit. I'm just gonna start my own phone company I guess
