As someone who's in pastry school, a lot of these home cooks really underestimate how difficult it is to make something look nice. If you see a cake or pie, like at 3:17 or 3:54, and don't have the tools needed to make it (piping tips, fondant/modeling chocolate, sculpting tools) don't expect to make something like looks even remotely similar.

unfortunately it happened to me too. I made cannelloni from scratch, pasta and everything. When i went to show my husband how proud i was that i made them myself.. i tilted the baking dish... i can tell you the cats really appreciated it :(
I made a lemon meringue pie from scratch as it was my then boyfriend (now after 30yrs ex-husband ) absolute favourite dessert. I wanted to impress him and was proud of the result . He thought it was out of a packet !!??🤪😃

One time i was making a smoothie, and while all the ingredients were still in there, i didn't think, i unscrewed the bottom of the container off where the blades were. Smoothie went everywhere

The worst thing I ever made was an experiment in my teens with rice and cheese. I put the entire contents of the packet in the pot and added a pound of grated cheese when it was eventually cooked hours later. It remained inedible and ended up being buried down the end of the garden before anyone came home.
This is why every school needs an Ergonomics/Home Economics class 😅

There was more cheese water then mac
I tried adding bread crumbs in there to make it better but it ultimately made it soggy
And lastly I thought putting oil in there would make it slightly better but I found out the oil was expired after I had put it in
The worst part is I ate it anyway because I was starving
That sucks

The first time I tried smoothies I added ground garlic instead of cinnamon. Also every damn time I make a pancake the first one is inedible either it's too runny or not runny enough or I forget to butter the pan beforehand. Once I accidentally unscrewed the salt grinder and dropped it into the salad and another time I added clove oil instead of olive oil. Mom got mad at the last two.

The boiling eggs one got me. One day my dad was boiling eggs for his lunch. Then he left. I didn't know he was boiling eggs. I thought the explosion from the egg meant I was gonna die. I went outside, before getting too curious and going back in. All the water had burned away and the two eggs had exploded everywhere. I asked him about it. Lol.

I remember I was at work at my local Italian restaurant one day where it started raining mid-shift when people where still sitting outside. While we brought them and their food in, the entrance area became extremely slippery and my boss and I warned the guests to be careful and not to slip. Guess who slipped with one bottle of balsamico vinegar and one bottle of olive oil that both fell on the floor and broke✌😗
My stepfather once used the oven for practically just storage, as a divorced bachelor does, and my mom didn't know he was storing a pizza box in there and almost caught the house on fire

One time I made one of those big buckets of soup when I took it out of the microwave or attempted to. The whole bowl was hot and once I grabbed onto the paper bowl, the steam hit my fingers and I dropped the bucket of soup onto the floor. My dad yelled at me for making a mess, I felt defeated, I cleaned it up and just didn't feel like having supper anymore. But of course, he yelled at me to make another soup, and to just shut up and just eat. ........damn, really trying to make me more upset that night....I already felt guilty for dropping the soup onto the floor from my own stupidity, when it was my first time making the soup.
Another time when I was younger, my dad made me a bowl of ramen noodles, he accidentally poured milk into my soup. I told him what he did by accident, I asked if I could make a new soup, he yelled at me for wanting to make a new ramen noodle soup, after he accidentally messed up the first one. Another time was when he cooked oven pizza, it had freezer burn on it.....didn't taste good at all. Tried forcing me and my sister to eat it, Nah that wasn't going to be happening what so ever. So he made a NON-EXPIRED pizza, all was good then. Though he thought it was funny that we didn't like the taste of the freezer burn pizza......NO ONE SHOULD BE EATING FOOD THAT'S EXPIRED AND HAS FREEZER BURN ON IT!! My mom is no better... "oh the food is a year past the expiration date, it's still okay to eat it" YOU'RE AN ER NURSE!! YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER WITH COMMON SENSE AND THAT EATING EXPIRED FOOD ISN'T GOOD!! It's hard enough to throw out expired food in this house, if it's both something that my sister and/or our mom likes, they don't want to throw it away, especially my sister, she'll want to fight you if you throw away food she likes even though it's expired. When they both know that they can buy that exact food item in the store, a NEW one that's not expired.
On pie day, I decided to make a pie using a street taco shell and homemade banana filling. I put it in the microwave for 7-10 minutes. Tip - don't put anything in the microwave for over three minutes unless specified by directions unless you want to set off the fire alarm. Best part, I caught my dog eating it after I took it outside.

It's funny watching grown adults learning to cook for the first time because I've been cooking since I was 6 years old- So I can point out exactly what they did wrong and at what point, and these people are all older than me....
Makes me feel a little better about my occasional fails in the past lol
So much of this could be fixed by fondant.
I noticed a trend of them trying to use icing where fondant was used and I'm not sure if they didn't realize the difference or just didn't have any, I've met a lot of people that don't know what fondant is they just always assumed you eventually learn to icing without leaving any lines.
At 11:31, I want to know how to make that pasta shape. What sort of pasta making machine do you need, 'cause that looks wonderful. Vermicelli, indeed.

I made yellow Spanish rice for lunch, and had it in my lap in a bowl. The cat decided to jump into the bowl, looks up at me for a few seconds before realizing he was sitting in hot rice, then took off across the room, leaving footprints and shedding rice all the way. He was okay, my food was not. 😔

Ooh I have some stories for this one.
So one time, my parents, brother, and I were going to visit our grandparents who live about six hours (driving) away from us. We had some extra zucchini (I don't know why) and I decided I wanted to make some zucchini bread to take to my grandparents. Well, I'm in the kitchen the morning of the day we're supposed to leave, getting all the ingredients in a bowl to mix them together, when I reach for the baking powder and realize that I'd already put it over with the ingredients I was done with. Turns out I put in two (ish) cups of baking powder instead of flour...
I still managed to make the bread (my dad saved me by going and getting more zucchini so I could start over), but now I was on a much tighter schedule. It was - make bread, get things in car, put bread somewhere it won't get crushed without burning my hands, get in the car, leave. It was stressful and I definitely cried a bit, but I made the bread and it actually turned out pretty good
Another time, I was making cookies! This one wasn't as much of a disaster, but it was still stressful and frustrating. One of the last steps was to make chocolate and butterscotch drizzles. Now, I'd made these cookies before and learned, from experience, that it's better to make the drizzles on the stove than in the microwave. They'll spill over the sides of the bowl and make a mess of the microwave (and burn my hands if I try to take them out of the microwave).
So I was trying to reduce the time it took to make the cookies by starting the chocolate drizzle while I rolled the cookies onto the cookie sheets. I maybe forgot about the drizzle until I smelled it burning... I couldn't save it. I ended up taking it off the stove, letting it cool down by sticking it in the fridge, and throwing it out. That pot was hard to clean and I think it still has a couple of black specks on the bottom that I couldn't get off. I managed to make the butterscotch drizzle without any major disasters, and we had some fudge ice cream topping that I used on some of the cookies
And yet another time, I was trying to make some boxed macaroni and cheese. It's hard to make macaroni and cheese without butter... but I'd already started the pasta boiling when I realized we didn't have butter. So I went and asked my mom what I should do. She said to substitute vegetable oil for the butter.
The only vegetable oil we had was olive oil.
I had my doubts, but I was also like 10 or 11, so I just assumed my mom knew what she was talking about. I added the oil and went on with my life. It didn't smell quite right and it tasted overwhelmingly like olive oil. I hated it. To this day, I'm still not sure if I heard my mom wrong or if she didn't know what she was talking about or what. I just remember taking one bite and instantly regretting everything. I have since learned to check for all the ingredients before cooking/baking
