I’ve always loved the Pantera/Metallica intro that morphs into Another Brick in the Walk before Purple Yellow Red and Blue. 20 minutes of pure rock bliss.
@isaactorres4489 for sure! Tbh, not to say they've gotten worse or anything like that since then, but I definitely did stop listening to them sometime shortly before or after I started hearing that one song on the radio all the time. You know the one. Their first REALLY big hit. The one that was in commercials on TV. I can't remember what it's called atm. I don't even think it was a bad song, btw. It wasn't like the catalyst for me that made me stop listening to them or anything like that. I think it just came out around the time in my life where I kinda just stopped having much motivation to listen to music just to vibe and enjoy it like I had my whole life prior to then. It was basically right after I had gotten kicked out of my old band, which was the biggest part of my life back then. Bigger than being a good partner to my girlfriend at the time, and even bigger than being a father to our (first) newborn son. At least in terms of how I treated those things and how much effort I put into them. I put a ton of effort and had a ton of love for being in that band and just for having a tangible creative outlet from which to create and experience music with some of my favorite people. But yeah, obviously, becoming a dad kind of changes things a lot, and at some point, being in the band was getting in the way of more important things and I was honestly just a huge piece of shit to my fellow band members and the new family I just helped to create. They were right to kick me out, and it was definitely for the best in the end. But after it happened, there was just this blockage in my mind that made me not want to listen to music of my own accord anymore. I'd just get depressed. Probably cuz I no longer had that creative outlet, so I felt like there was nothing I could do with all the inspiration I derived from listening to music like I had always done before. Luckily, time has mostly healed that wound, and I can more or less enjoy music like I used to. Especially now that I have a drum set and a place I can play it at again. And even after years of not drumming and not listening to music in the same capacity as I normally would, I'm a better drummer, AND a better father, now than I ever was when I was in that band. But I am once again hoping I can, at least just casually, jam with old friends again in the near future. :) K. Life story over now. My bad, lol...
I absolutely love the musicianship of this group. The way they switch instrument in their current era. Watching Kyle struggle through So American on Bass was unique and amazing!
How have i not heard about this band before? I surely have heard some of those songs over the years and heard their cover of Don't Tread on Me, but never sat down and listened to Portugal, The Man .This is just the right fusion of genres so it's still that catchy i can sit through this and their 2023 Lallapaloosa concert, never heard this band before, and just loving every song. That is rear, i'm telling you. I listen to lot's of music, this is great!
Anyone knows why Zack's no longer playing the bass? Had already noticed this in the last Lollapalooza Chicago. They have to have gotten some huge turn all of them, even tho they're sounding great as always. One of the best bands out there
I don't have an official answer but my guess is the album and live sets has some new sounds. Kyle is so talented he can pretty much play any instrument, so both are playing utility where they will move between instruments.
Great video! Thank you. But who titled these segments? I've never seen titles so far off at KEXP. Maybe they didn't have a copy of Chris Black Changed My Life at the time they uploaded but it has been out since June 2023.
I’m a huge PTM fan. I’ve seen them several times live and they’re amazing, but like some others said…this set sounds a little off. To me, it sounds like the drummer keeps changing the tempo. I’ve never seen him before…maybe he’s a new touring member, but I feel like he’s the one throwing off the beat in my opinion
Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Now in some places, I guess it makes sense since they're doing a lot to blend songs of different tempos into each other, which is cool. But, idk man, like really drawn out & slow tempo changes just sound so weird to me. It's almost like rhythmic dissonance almost? It kind of gives me a creeped out feeling that you can get when listening to certain types of microtonal music. It just feels "off" in a not so good way. This is one of the best bands I've seemed live, and one of my favorite bands, but I just didn't vibe with their most recent album, which mad me really sad. Not sure if it was due to unreasonably high expectations, or they're just moving in a direction I'm not super into. Probably a bit of both.
Have to say, this one is a bit disappointing. Just sounds kinda messy. Harmonies are off. Not sure if it's just poor mixing or what, there's just a bit too much going on.
The thing about art is..... there is no right or wrong. Humans aren't perfection in fact they are flawed. With that said have you ever performed for anyone on the level that ptm has and will? Personally myself I find it refreshing when artists take creative liberty on arrangements even when they're already set in stone. I imagine that it also prevents burnout in repeating the same task over and over. With that said you better enjoy them while you have them. Nothing last forever and if there something that could possibly reach such it's going to be love.
@@lenasauve3660 My music tastes are eclectic. There's tons of great stuff out here nowadays. What genre are you asking about or just what I think is good?
1:17 Grim Generation / Dummy
10:17 Summer Of Luv / Ghost Town
18:45 Plastic Island
23:37 Champ
27:34 Anxiety:Clarity
31:22 So American

"I wish I were lighter, the weariness weighs too heavily on me
This is my spring, still cold enough for snow"
KEXP floors me again with superb audio and production for these mini-concerts. Absolutely incredible. The best! 🎉
Their ability to jam into other songs was so unexpected when I saw them for the first time. Truly a GREAT live band
Best i ever see the live

Another PTM KEXP performance I'll watch 5,000 times

I remember this band from waaaaayy back when The Satanic Satanist and other even earlier albums og theirs came out.
Their independent era was so great

I'm obsessed with this version of Plastic Island, so good.
i read your comment, then i listened... omg i felt sleep forever and waves vibes, awesome

Oregon City Sessions is one of the best live albums the past decade. I want more of that!
After GG into Dummy i get DMB vibes with that sax and shaker...
What hapened to the left handed drumer?
Sunny and jangly. Loving them straight from the first track here. 😊
I love PTM. This is their Listener Supported performance. Such good vibes
hell yeah such amazing group of lovely people that deserve minute of success

Their set from Lolla 2018 is the GOAT! 👌

They've always played multiple instruments. In fact musicains and artists tend to be able to play anything they desire/ wish.
They're having fun. Listening to Kyle struggle on So American was novel and awesome. I love bands that take chances
Beautiful collaboration between such talented artists. Love it!
I'm so glad they played So American! That song is awesome! Loved it!
How did i miss this event when i listen to kexp radio station all the time???
This was a VIP donor event held at the triple door, so it wasn't broadcasted live
Thanks again from Australia 🌻
hope the former drummer is doing well
Both of them, Kane and Jason were great
This performance is perfect for the setting
Portugal The Man x KEXP : name a more iconic duo, i'll wait
The black keys?
The first album I really liked.
But this performance doesn't touch me.
Love the creativity of their live sound, that version of summer of Luv was super cool, whats that crazy reverb on the guitars? Shimmery!
introducer guy nervous af
Hahaha, no swearing. An ode to the first time they performed for KEXP 10 years ago. Different band members from then, though.
whaaaaaaaa.....KEXP & PTM Im in Love..

Hell Yeah!!! Much Love!!!
KEXP are on fire!
nice
That's almost Portugal entire population on stage, their manager must be really good at math.
their manager is antonio costa.
man... now i want American Ghetto like they did this live
They're still pumping out bangers and sounding great!
“Everyone’s running thinking they gotta be here”
Come to BBK live!!
😂😂❤❤❤😂🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Que buena música hacen y que bien me caen estos muchachos
John's guitar sounds awesome
I noticed some Gnarls Barkley (CeeLo Green) influences on this live!
well, they've been in contact with danger mouse since evil friends, so...
No Swearing! ha :)
❤🔥
You guys need to start keeping your eyes out for a faked artist it can’t be allowed and it’s the plague of the music world
What on earth are you talking about ?!
I like they have new songs, but they always should play Fell It Still 😂
Beautiful as ever but whoever did sound needs sacking
why? sounds fine to me
@@nowheredan27 That sax for one doesn't seem like the mic was working.
i have a feeling they all can’t hear themselves. Especially the drummer. he’s all over the place and he’s dragging the hell out the tempo.
❤❤❤❤❤
New Portugal sucks.

If you don't like this, then you don't deserve them when they bring it all.
i think they sound great!! i like it when things are a tad off, the guy sings like mac to me. sax is amazing too!! the band is just playing quiet :)

I see that actually lol. I think it took them a few songs to get in sync but Ghost Town on is 😙👌
They jam on this a bunch. Your looking for all the wrong stuff. Wrong!
I'll never understand some of this new generation's crap.
Your taste in music is bad
What are you listening then?
