Just in case anyone is wondering how to do this at home just be warned first it is dangerous and can be fatal if a mistake is made...
One of the easiest bits of equipment to use is a welder (stick welder) with two nails clipped on each of the electrodes.
As far as prep goes you can wipe the stock or furniture down first with a high burning point gun oil or use metholated spirit/white spirit as it evaporates quickly.
DO NOT USE PETROL/GAS OR ANY OTHER MINERAL BASED OILS!

Dang it! Just when I thought I have an original idea, I find someone else has already done it. and made a video of it, on RUclips! It turned out great, thanks for taking the risk and showing the rest of us what can be done.

While I can appreciate the uniqueness and the out of the box thinking, I just cringed when I saw that beautiful wood grain get all scarred up. It’s good though that we all don’t like the same thing or it would be a pretty dull world.
    Cool video.

I never thought about doing that to a gunstock. I'm going to have to break out an unfinished stock for a Mauser and give this a shot.

Fractal burning poses a significant hidden risk of electrocution. The American Association of Woodturners Safety Committee and Board of Directors strongly recommend woodturners avoid the risk altogether, by refraining from the use of Lichtenberg burning techniques.
This type of art has become increasingly popular and deadly due to exponential popularity in the use of RUclips type video teaching. THIS CAN BE DEADLY!!!

Have you done this with laminate wood stocks such as the colored ones from Boyd’s? I have a stock that I want to do this to, but I don’t want to explode the stock and ruin it. Only way to test this would be to buy a blank from them and see, but if you have input, it’d be greatly appreciated.
