    The Chess World Cup 2023 is a 206-player single-elimination chess tournament that will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 30 July to 24 August 2023.[1] It will be the 10th edition of the Chess World Cup. The top three finishers in the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Candidates Tournament.[2][3]
    The tournament will be held in parallel with the Women's Chess World Cup 2023.

      she did play in open section of 2023 bulgarian chess championship open section and won silver medal ahead of six GMs and lost only to the champion. I guess here she is not in open section probably because she didn't qualify for it so she is taking whatever opportunities she gets, but she does play in open tournaments and performs pretty good.@@PreservationEnthusiast

      But to give some explanation to my comment: on first sight your comment did appear a bit snapy about Salimova. And following the games live on youtube I saw so many people being so disrespectfull to woman in chess that I interpreted it in a wrong way.

    As a Bulgarian I am very happy to see Nurgyul Salimova's strong performance in the FIDE's Women's World Cup (2023) and also her getting the spot light she deserves on her games!       @@lyubomirkaradzhov6134even though there are some similarities between those players and Nurgül, from historical point of view the situation is different. However it is also worth to mention that she is succesful neither because of she is Turkish nor Bulgarian, she is succesful because of her hard work and the high quality education that she got…

      @@lyubomirkaradzhov6134 Hikaru was raised in the US because of his parents moved there. It is the case for Caruana as well. Nurgül born in a country in which a lot of turkish people used to live because it was a turkish territory. Most of them migrated back to Turkey in the 80s, but some of them chose to stay or missed the chance to migrate. So this was the more or less the difference from the historical point of view that I meant

    Thank you so much for this tribute to Salimova. I have watched all of her games in the tournament and really fell in love with her style of play. I hope she does well in the finals, too, but she has already won: what a woman!

    I watched both games on radom , My day was going along, I was bored and checked twitch for some chess streams. I watched her doing those games low on time and the way she thought about those brilliant ideas! I fell in love with Nurgyul the moment I saw those two games!

    Wow! The first game was insane. Salimova played absolutely amazing! Sacrificing the rook with the intention to move the king with a tempo to protect the bishop and use it in a mating attack. That's just insanely creative! She is really good!

    Really remarkable, a whole rook sacrifice allowing check too: the harmonic black pieces coordination allowed this elegant, sharp combination!
    In the second game the soul of Paul Morphy was inspiring her!😊

    I am Bulgarian and i am very proud and please watching these games! I will ignore the Turkish discussion below. Selimova is a Bulgaria citizen and playing for Bulgaria. And nowadays discussing the Turkish rule is just silly anyway. In our country where the media is overtook by Influencers, reality show stars and no-talent podcasters it is so great that a young talent like her finally receives media attention.

    I almost NEVER find the "Pause the Video" solutions, but this time I was determined.
    I'm only a 1500 - 1600 player, so when I spotted the rook capture and then the bishop move, I wasn't sure.
    A few checks of everything else and I realized I had it.
    This was SO satisfying.

    That tower sacrifice is amazing. It's not difficult to calculate the combination, but it's extremely difficult to even consider it, it needs a lot of discipline and creativity. Side note she is just 20 years old. Moving above 2600 requires a change of style towards the more boring, it happened to Kasparov, to Magnus to everybody, except some magical figure from some city. But it's well within her reach.
