    While I don't live in NYC, I feel your advice and tips apply to every city. The New York I see on TV and movies is always so glamorized. We know the truth and I for one appreciate your frankness. It can be glamorous but also hard.
    Thanks for this video. I thoroughly enjoy your content.

    I live in NYC too, and everything you said was so spot on. Especially pertaining to having street smarts. I remember when I went to Germany for 10 days, my friend and I asked the hotel clerk where was the nearest store. It was 1:00 am. He said that he wouldn't suggest us go to the store that time of night.. My response: We from New York 😆😆😆

    I know a girl who moved there right after college because she thought she was Carrie Bradshaw. She moved back home after a year, looking like she’d been THROUGH IT. Living with multiple roommates, both human and pests. She couldn’t afford to party, or go to Broadway. She was delusional and thought she’d meet a rich guy, but rich men mostly want an equally rich woman. Reality hit her quick and she had to leave.

    This is a great video for people thinking of moving to the city. I lived in NYC for 6 1/2 years and it definitely has both pros and cons and the cons are not talked about enough as much as the romanticized parts. This was a good video.

    I lived in Manhattan in my 20s and ir was a great experience but I felt like a dot. That’s the best way I could describe it, that I was just some little speck in a humongous place. I felt so small and inconsequential, as if I didn’t matter and if anything bad happened to me at any given moment, who there really cared? Who was there to make sure I was okay? I know that’s true anywhere on your own and I’ve been to many places but I think because of the Manhattan skyscrapers, the fast pace of the City, the feeling that everyone in New York is really from literally everywhere else in the world and there’s no “community” to fall back on, I really felt like that in NYC.

      Most people come to NYc and stay for a little while and then move. It’s not as exciting as you think. There are a lot of cons to living in NYC. People move and after a few years realize that they aren’t saving much money and just wasting half their check on rent. Others will realize that they handed more space for their family and move back home or out to the suburbs (don’t even think of putting your kids in the NYC school system..well at least after primary school).

    Thank you for this video. I could totally relate as someone who is born and raised in New York. At the moment I’m trying to look for jobs and it’s been hard due to high competition and what not. Everything is so expensive these days it’s like you can’t stretch out a dollar to make ends meet.

    Totally appreciate this video. I fear the loneliness and the possibility of homelessness too lol. But seeing others succeed and become independent is inspiring. Hopefully it won't drag me down but build me up once I move there. What's the market like now? Is it best to start apartment searching mid-summer or end of?

    • @mohuyakhan
      @mohuyakhan  9 месяцев назад +2

      you can for sure do it too. just make sure to have a good chunk of money saved up! Summer is usually the craziest time to search for apartments so I would recommend winter, but late summer if you can't wait!

      @@mohuyakhan how much money do you recommend having saved up? I just turned 18 and was planning on moving to ny to pursue modeling- I’m ngl the move sounds extremely intimidating, me coming all the way from Texas and definitely do not have any sort of degree to my name, but even despite that I’m the take the risks kinda guy
      Also, does moving to ny 18 sound like a good idea? I know I had said I take risks but I haven’t really experienced that much of the adult life like paying utility bills, groceries, etc.I also wouldn’t want to become homeless in the first week of arriving 💀 my initial plan was finding a roommate but I don’t really have a grasp on how difficult it is to find one.

    • @erickandrewp

      @@oskurrrr395my suggestion to you would be to go there and find out. Just have a backup plan in case you have to go back from where you are as of now. I'm 26 years old and I regret not following my own dreams when I was your age. Go there and find out, don't do my mistake.

    What are your thoughts about a homebody who owns their home in another state, but considering moving to NYC for a job. I honestly just want to sublet for the first few months before I make the full move. The offers I get are 6 figures but I wonder if it’s a waste of money and causes more stress

    • @chechantal
      @chechantal 6 месяцев назад +2

      I’m an established adult living in NYC making six figures and I’d heavily advise you to put together a realistic financial plan and goals before moving here. If companies are offering a relocation bonus, then don’t turn it down and negotiate even higher if you can. Moving within the city is expensive and competitive and securing a long term apartment requires rent, security, broker fees (15-20% of the annual rent), etc up front. It can be a stressful process if you’re on a strict timeline (i.e. your sublet is ending) but if you have a few months of flexibility, it’s easier. Keep in mind, NYC residents are taxed 3x: federal, state, and city taxes. So consider that in addition to the property taxes you’ll pay where you own a home and how that plays out. The cost of living in NYC is still going to eat up 50% of your income after taxes if you land in the $100ks and intend to save and invest too. If you can make rental income off your current home while you’re living in NYC that would be a huge advantage. If you work remotely or the avg. salary for your job offers $160k-$200k+, you’ll be perfectly fine.
