- This is how I restore hand saws for using in my shop. This is a Henry Disston No. 12 saw from the 1888-96 era. It is a full size 26 inch saw with a nice straight plate. The teeth were in good shape and just needed sharpening.
Great job of cleaning both the steel blade and wooden handle, ensuring that the patena and history of the handle are preserved. Very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing.
I have a no 12 panel saw it’s amazing the difference in quality
Excellent job. Another treasure for the workshop. Enjoy every minute of using it.
Now that’s the way it should be done…just a good cleaning and brighten er up…well done…🖖🏻
A very beautiful saw and a nice restoration!
Sweet job on a scarce Disston’ Saw. The model 12 was their fanciest. I just picked up a 12. Handle in excellent no cracks-shape. Missing 2 brass nut/screws. The Medallion dates it to 1870/80s. My plate is rougher than yours though. Maybe leave it as display-or do light clean up & find few replacement nuts/washer.
Nice job on restoring old irreplaceable tools , wish many more will be saved and used as intended .
Fine job!😛👍😎
Now, this saw is worth restoration, notice the handle angle, it's down the cutting edge, later saws handle angle goes down the back of the saw, making it very hard to actually saw something, try an older saw with this type of handle, and you'll be looking for one, it's a different world.
Very well done! And thank you for NOT sandblasting - thats alway breaks my heart.
Cool restoration, like 👍
I wish I could work that fast, I am still looking for another bottle of " elbow grease " and the last time I used it, I had a job to drink it. if anything it slowed me down.
Well done!
Awesome
Very nice restoration, I have several I need to restore, what were the products you used on the blade and handle?
Mineral spirits and a Scotch Brite pad on the saw plate to clean and derust. If it's really rusty, Evaporust soaked towels wrapped on the plate and covered with plastic wrap, and leave it for a few hours or overnight. Then I lubricated with oil and wet sanded to 1200. On the handle mineral spirits and fine steel wool to clean. To finish, I think I used Danish oil on this one, but l I've used BLO and wax on others
Very good
Nice work! I love how you kept the patina on the old tote.
I use a tapered scratch awl to align the holes in the tote and the plate. Helps set the saw bolts.
What did you use for the finish? There was a cream or oil and then a wax?
Why is my saw cut unstrait?
LIKE!
What is the finish ?????
Danish oil
