which is probably why they slowly phased to it. Sunshine had less freedom than 64, galaxy less than sunshine, galaxy 2 less than galaxy, then to 3d land, like God intended.

Plot twist: It's been here all along! Unless you are playing some sort of non-linear game where everything happens all at once, that is.
Happened in 2002, when Artoon/Microsoft released Blinx: The Time Sweeper for the original Xbox, which touted itself as the first "4D" game.

I really appreciate Scott’s humor. He’s very obviously trying to write actual jokes, and isn’t just trying to ride off his personality or the content of the video itself. Scott makes legitimate jokes, with a setup and punchline, and it’s a huge breath of fresh air.

I think the main reason Kirby hasn't made a real transition to 3D yet is because trying to implement the many moves of the copy abilities (a lot of which require directional inputs centered around 2D movement) into 3D could prove a challenge. Then again, one of the earlier prototypes of Return to Dreamland was in full 3D, so I guess we'll never know.
We have 2 mini 3D Kirby games with 1 focusing on level design and the other on combat so they just need to mix the 2
CiciPop why can’t you adapt them? The sword could cover half the space around Kirby, the hammer could have splash damage when it hits the ground, and projectile attacks could be just bigger
@@gezi5927 It's less a matter of how they function in 3D and moreso how you execute them. Like, with the fighter ability you can do a shoryuken by holding up and pressing the attack button. In 3D though, there isn't really a direction for "up", as holding the joystick in that direction would have you move forward instead of looking up.

Most people played the DX port which isn’t unplayable but is way glitchier and some people think it’s the same as the Dreamcast version
Thank you for bringing up Kirby. While Kirby Star Allies was fun, my hankering for a true 3D Kirby game has just gotten bigger. I know it'd be tricky to do, but I want them to at least try it.

That's oddly specific.
One interesting transition from 2D to 3D was the Mortal Kombat series, specifically starting with Deadly Alliance because that was the first TRUE 3D Mortal Kombat. The mechanics and movesets changed completely.
For example, Scorpion's spear. In the original games, it was Back, Back, Low Punch. Now it can be done with the press of a button.
Yeah it wasn't quite the same, but it was still enjoyable.

When people say "Sonic had a difficult time going into 3D" they should be referring to Sonic X-Treme, because if they're referring to Adventure they shouldn't exist.

Don't get why Sonic Adventure gets so much hate. Got it with the Dreamcast and at the time it was Amazing. Still replay it time from time. Dreamcast still my favorite system.
It's probably because people have this stupid idea that "Sonic was never good." Yeah, the game has some lows, but it also has some highs, and those highs tend to go through the roof
People don't hate the sonic Adventure.
People hate sonic Adventure dx, a rushed port that takes out quality with every consecutive version, especially the hd version.. It's a shame that it's the most readily available version of the game and sega doesn't do shit about it even though fans have completely fixed the pc version now tith mods

The 3DS is some of the closest we've gotten to true 3D gaming. The 3D effect actually helps with depth perception when it comes to 3D platformers.
Although technically nothing we see is 3D considering we view the world with a 2D perception.

@@darthlobster Disney had this really impressive tornado (?) simulation at Disney World circa 2009-ish that blew my mind as a kid. The attraction was 5D, with mist/very light 'rain', wind, and other immersive experiences related to the natural disaster. (Some more info I can remember for anyone who can help me out with the name of the attraction/simulation: it was inside this building where you could also make your own paper at this small booth/station.)
It made me aware of just how advanced movies and video games could possibly get in the future. I wish I remembered the name of it, but your comment reminded me of the attraction as well as how excited I am for the future of gaming and other forms of media. Hopefully we can get some type of higher-quality 5D gaming/movies at some point.

The "2D platformer that actually uses the third axis" subgenre is criminally underrated. Remember Tomba and Klonoa - those games still have the traditional 2D gameplay, but the "movement plane" is always curving and branching and it gives an experience that was not possible to achieve in full 2D.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up Crash Bandicoot at all. That series is probably one of the best examples of taking what worked in 2D and sticking it on a 3D plane.

This was neat. In case you didn't know, I am a die-hard Mario fan.
Seeing Mario transition from 2D to 3D was nice.
I believe that each of the 3D Marios are great. From exploring paintings in Peach's Castle, taking in the colorful beauty of Isle Delfino, soaring the galaxies twice, and going on a globe-trotting odyssey, the 3D Mario adventures are great.
However, I am a bigger fan of the 2D platformers. They follow a consistent formula of being good, simple, straightforward fun games.
Now, one can argue that 2D Mario is _too_ consistent, to the point of being stale. The four New Super Mario Bros. games are often viewed as such, but even so, I really dig playing them. I also love many 2D Kirbys, like Kirby's Adventure, Return to Dream Land, and Star Allies.
I think it is brilliant that Super Mario 3D Land and World fused the two genres together. Indeed, 3D World is my second favorite 3D Mario due to a lifelong dream of mine seeing 2D and 3D ideas combined on a TV screen.
That said, I find sandbox adventures to be fun, like Spyro the Dragon, Super Mario 64, and even PokePark Wii.
