Evercade Sydney Hunter Collection - ONLY 4 Games - Is This GOOD Value?!

- In this video we play though all 4 games from Evercade's Sydney Hunter Collection. Some good games here but not convinced it's great value for money. These games would've been better suited on an Indie Heroes Collection (In My Opinion!).

Interestingly.. the glitching in Caverns of Death is nothing to do with Evercade emulation..this was in the original snes physical release. The game is just glitchy in general!
I notice glitching or screen tearing when moving from one screen to the next.. is that what you was referring to?
Four games for £18 is a good price in my opinion, especially considering these are not “real” retro games but new games in the retro style. £4.50 a pop, on a physical cartridge seems good value to me.
And, personally, I’ll play these much more than I will that ragtag collection of games on Pico Arcade Collection 1
Fair enough. I'm just not convinced it's enough. Not necessarily 4 games but that the 4 games are not really enough. I have enjoyed Sacred Tribe. Though it doesn't take long to complete.
Most likely skip this one as I already have a Sydney Hunter game on Steam and one's probably enough. Keep up the awesome work :-)
I actually want this for jester something about it Keeps bringing back memories of me late dad playing games like hunchback and paunchy sure he would of loved it real feeling of nostalgia 😊
I find the 4 games worth the price, but I get it's not for everyone and yeah there are plenty of games that I don't play, but overall Blaze still offers plenty at a good price...
Seems fair, I have bought it but probably leave sealed.
I was looking forward to this cart the most it's the kind of games I know I will get replay out of alot. As for drawing a map no need they gave you the map on the back of the poster lol. Come on burger. I never care about number of games as long as there is value to what I enjoy in tha th cart and with stuff like stickers or map or posters or anything like that I always say that is 2 to 3 dollars worth of bonus. So that helps with price point on my end
I got this cart a few days ago, came to this video to see if the glitches in Caverns of Death were from the recent updates or always like that. I can say it's not just your cart, mines glitching like that on certain screen changes too. The cart I have must be for NA since it doesn't have the Pegi rating and that really doesn't matter aside from the stamp on it. 8 months since release and they still haven't fixed it, dang, my hope for the other carts with bugs getting fixed is almost nonexistent now.
This isn't really an Evercade bug, it was there in the original rom too. The developer would have to fix this one. Probably unlikely.
Got my cart a few days ago. My first intro to Sydney Hunter was the promo for the Intellivision game, but I didn't have the quid to buy it when it was first offered for Intellivision. I love Intellivision. My passion is for the Atari 2600, but my second favorite console is the Inty. Anyway, the Inty game SUCKS as it turns out, but the other 3 games have been amazing! I beat Jester (the last level is a nightmare of twitch excitement!), and I'm working on Sidney Hunter & the Caverns of Death. I keep getting lava-killed on level 6. Thank God for save states! LOL! I'm loving this release and can't wait to beat it!
I think I've enjoyed Sacred Tribe the most. Caverns of Death is a bit frustrating. Seems very buggy as well. Lol yeah agree the Intellivision game isn't worth adding here.
I wish the jumps weren't predetermined arcs and you had a bit more control. Trying to jump up the rocks at the end of a stage in Shrines of Peril!!
Lol so ridiculous.. why die at this point?! It's bizarre.
Sydney Hunter is a far better cart than Worms Collection
Lol you've got a point there. Worms is by far the least valuable cart for me. I've hardly played the games at all.. whereas I'll certainly be playing Sydney Hunter games.
But is it better than Intellivision 2?
Looking forward to trying these later today, but expectations are low.
2 games actually are good, jester alright as well. I went through list of collectorvision games and they have 2 more games for nes. This cartridge will look more nicer with 6 games in total.
Shrines of Peril is actually my favorite on this collection. Just because it's good for a quick round to improve your Highscore. Jester is interesting, but the controls annoy me. I wish it had more like pac-man style controls, where your character moves "on tracks".
Yeah I was thinking the same regarding Jester. Considering the stressful nature of the game, it requires quick response and easy manoeuvres.
Maybe Blaze could do a budget range for £9.99 ($10.99) and call it Evercade Platinum 🤔🤔
Definitely agree there. If it was only £10 then that would be far more acceptable.
The fourth game is Smurf!
Lol yep, exactly the same..
That Sydney Hunter art cover looks pretty extreme for a new retro game title.
Boiled alive in lava. 😬
Lol its extreme. Pretty cool. It would make a nice Tshirt. Nice might be the wrong word.
Sure, mother!
Sydney Hunter and the Shrines of Peril have actually ending?
Lol who knows.. I doubt it.
I think these games fall into the average time killer category for me. There's nothing inherently horrible about them, but also nothing that makes me want to check them out over something else. The older I get (47), the less I want to kill time. Everything about them looks generic, from the character design to the art style. While it's good to see new games for old systems, these would not have been anything special back then either, so I just don't see the point. Demons of Astaborg on the other hand, is an example of something that would have impressed back then.
I pretty much agree with everything you've said here. Though the older I get (46!) I get bored very quickly with games. These games are on the verge of that. Certainly not bad games though.
Totally agree.
I pre-ordered this, but then I started to play Sydney Hunter and the Curse of the Mayan. It's a bigger game, better looking, with much more variety. After playing this, the Evecade cart seemed rather redundant, so I cancelled the order. One really good game is worth more than three just okay games.
I did like the look of that game.. is that worth buying?
Yes. Only $9.99 on the Switch. Lots to explore, solid controls, good music and lots of save points. It really scratched my itch for a retro style game.
I don’t love the Jester game but maybe it will grow on me. I love the rest.
I think it’s a good value since these indie games are probably $6-7 each digital. Well, except for shrines of peril. That’s like a $3-4 game to me.
Lol its too stressful!
@@CrazyBurgermy thing is I miss my turns, like on burgertime nes when you ‘miss’ the ladders. That part is frustrating!
@@darkridearts oh yeah.. it definitely reminds you of that. Frustrating.
I'm sure some of these games were about $10 I'm digital form. Honestly I think maximum they are worth 3 or 4.. The Intellivision game should be free in reality as they are using assets from the smurfs game.
@@CrazyBurgerthe INTV game did not use any assets from the Smurfs game, which was never actually made for the INTV.
I totally 100% agree, should of had at least another 2 games.
Maybe even added other versions of these games.. or other Collector Vision games.. Never mentioned it but technically Jester isn't a Sydney Hunter game..
Another two games don't exist.
@@yandman26 they couldve added any other games from Collectorvision. Jester isn't a Sydney Hunter game after all.
@@CrazyBurger Jester to my knowledge is being sold as a spinoff from the series. Hence why it's on there. It isn't a Collectorvision collection.
@@yandman26 interesting.. it doesn't look like it's linked in anyway to Sydney H.
Also if last game is like smurfs there is a double jump in that game dont know if that is how this is. But if you jump straight up and as you land jump again it jumps higher
Yeah You might be right but everytime that happened I died.. its weird.
@@CrazyBurger gotcha. I know you know what your doing just wasnt sure if you were having issues like you said your cart seemed glitchy. Will you be able to get a replacement cart if that's the case also look at the map on poster for the game you thought you needed to draw a map for lol
@@dustheg lol I thought the map was for the Snes game! I've since realised it's for Sacred Tribe.. wasn't clear. Obvious now though. Yeah my cart is glitchy. Funstock should replace if I contact them.
@@CrazyBurger good deal if funstock does that. I dont know why but to me this is one of the top must have carts for me this year. I never play the evercade for hours on end so these games seem just right for my style of time play
@@dustheg Nice, I'm glad you enjoy it. Who knows I might change my mind.. think though that 4 games of this type is generally not as good value as other carts recently.
I don’t get why everything on the Evercade system needs to have a budget value. The other today Ryan mentioned they cannot make a trackball because the final price would not have a budget value. I don’t want to be arrogant, but it gets ridiculous that Blaze thinks evercade audience lives on food stamps and shelter and can’t afford something a bit more premium.
That would be contradictory anyway as Blaze has been increasing the prices of all Evercade products across the range.
The price of entry is getting pretty prohibitive now considering how this all started off with a £60 handheld device a few years ago and has now got out of control.
@@bigbabatunde1218 the devices are fairly priced. the OG screen and lack of wifi justified the lower cost (I prefer playing on the OG, though, for being lighter and I love the screen). We have to realize that the evercade is an expensive indulgement. We could all just buy Anbernic, Powkiddy, Retroid, Myoo devices and call it a day, but we prefer to collect carts and support the industry. I believe that Blaze often gets what it can out of the deals with the publishers. The carts are still priced the same after all, which gives us the realization some carts have more values that others, for the obvious reasons they are priced equally. We cant get 20 games all the time, at the end of the day you cant have 20 ATARI games from eary 80s and 20 "high quality" modern retro games.
for some reason Blaze and PIko have a very close relationship, and they got 20 games on Piko collection 1, but see what happened to that cart... it is now a legacy cart! 1 game out of license and it is dead in the market. They are old games, too, which justified the cost.
@@henrygpk Have you seen the game lineup on the current version of the AtGames Legends Flashback?
It's full of Piko licensed games and a lot of those games have been a part of the Evercade cart lineups as well.
@@bigbabatunde1218 no, thanks for the heads up! not a mini console fan, though.
What is the incentive to buy these handhelds? Its not like they are original cartridges.
I don't get why people would chose this over something else
I've enjoyed what they've been doing, though don't always like every game or cart. Plus I've found and played games that I otherwise would never have known about. Also fully licensed. Arguably there are better ways to play these games.
It's a strange one to answer as it means different things to different people.
I ignored the Evercade handheld for the first two years as the games just didn't appeal to me.... but as time has went on and I see Evercade becoming something very different in a direction I don't entirely like, I got my hands on an original handheld and a few carts that had a few games on them that did interest me, but more crucially it interests me in a different way to my usual mainstream gaming of retro games, namely simpler games like mappy and Dig Dug as well as some Atari games that I wouldn't have bothered with on a big screen TV but are found to be perfect for a handheld device in short bursts.
I really only bought it as an alternative to my main gaming but have spent some time playing some games that I wouldn't even have bothered about prior, games like Mappy and Food Fight for example.
This only applies to the original handheld though as I have zero interest in the EXP and I have had a VS for months now and haven't even opened it and don't intend to anytime soon.
Evercade releases are becoming less and less value and of less interest, but more expensive for their products, and now we have the logical conclusion of them releasing a cart with one game on it as is the case with Full Void.
Full Void is an excellent game though. The next few carts are interesting but yeah quantity had certainly dropped.
@@CrazyBurger Will Full Void work as a handheld experience though? If so, what's next from Evercade? An English translation of Snatcher as one game on a cart?
Another product to replace the EXP or VS in a year or two maybe?
Maybe it will be Evercade and Blaze going bust just like Blaze Europe did a while back?
The next year or two is going to be unbelievably crucial for Evercade and they've already alienated a lot of their customer base by some of their short sighted decisions including the new cheapo Taito handheld that people aren't entirely happy about having to go buy another hardware product from them.
@@bigbabatunde1218 Yeah Full Void works fine handheld..
Snatcher Mega CD on a cart would be amazing.. but I don't see it happening. Would be pretty awesome if it did though.
It depend how you look. Astrobros for me is brilliant game. Even goodboy galaxy looks good game. Full void i think it was more like a project how people take one game cart. If we talking about duke nukem so its no doubts that licence ain't cheap.
@@martynasjuodiskis1726 Yeah I doubt that these license ain't cheap, I get it. Just not convinced these games are worth it. Not bad games at all but mightve been better on an Indie Heroes Collection.
