    I think the black tights are for contrast purposes, but they’re not complimentary colors, which makes for a pretty ugly combo. Speaking as an artist, I’m surprised they’d choose contrast over a more pleasing color palette.
    On a side note, Jordan’s hair looks so cute here! ☺️

    Among adult amateurs, black tights are super popular and you would pair them with black slippers, but you wouldn't usually dye your pointe shoes black to match, because whenever you do get to perform, you'd need the pink pointe shoes (with pink tights obviously) anyway, and most adult amateurs don't have multiple pairs of pointe shoes going at the same time - but keeping one extra pair of pink tights around works. So that's how around a third of my pointe class ends up with black tights in pink shoes. The rest is pink + pink.

      I just found you last night, so I am going through some of your older videos & enjoying you very much. You are both quite charming. 😊
      But because the last time I had a pair of point shoes on I was 10-12 years old, I don’t know much about ballet aesthetics at all. Can you explain why you’re so against black tights? I understand they don’t look good with pink shoes, but you seem to be against black tights independent of what color shoes the dancer might be wearing. If a dancer is wearing a black costume, wouldn’t she also be wearing black tights and shoes? I’m sure there’s a real reason for it but I’m just curious. OK I’m off to watch some more videos. 😊

    • @EmL-kg5gn
      @EmL-kg5gn Месяц назад +1

      @@sylvanaire As you understand ballet aesthetically emphasises uninterrupted lines and mismatched colours don’t do that but instead break the line. They also mentioned that you might wear black or other colours to play certain characters. In fashion black has become the standard colour for tights so it seems classic to those of us who aren’t as familiar with ballet. But in ballet it isn’t classic, which is why it can make a statement for characterisation and why they didn’t like the high prevalence of black tights in these photos!
      Ballet pink was designed for harmony and continuity with the skin (without actually being a nude colour due to the culture of the time, and harmonious with fair skin specifically - but both are other topics). Nude tones have become very popular for tights and shoes too because when matched with each other and the skin they also have that harmonious effect. Black doesn’t have this effect. Even for very dark skin tones it’s not harmonious like a well-matched nude (or nude-ish) colour would be because skin tones are always rich and complex, while black is completely desaturated and therefore one-note!

    Hi ! There is a ballet, Western, by Georges Balanchine, where ballerinas are wearing black tights and black pointe shoes. The outfit, tutus are inspired by the French cancan and the saloon dancers. This ballet is funny, very demanding for the dancers, and the black tights and pointe shoes are making longer and thinner legs. If you can see the original version with the dancer Tanaquil Leclerc, it is even better. She was very beautiful, married with Balanchine, and had to stop dancing very young because she got polio, sad story.
    Thanks for your videos, I find them very interesting, I am from Paris, France and I would like to know more about where you are dancing ...

    I love that you want to spread ballet culture, and I wish you luck. I've been trying to educate my friends/debunk ballet myths for over forty years, and just yesterday one of my friends said "Aren't pointe shoes the ones with lead in the toes?" As with any culture, ballet culture can only be understood by being immersed in it, for years.

    I actually think that the stock photo with the black pointe shoes is fairly realistic and pretty! The angle and lighting of the shot is giving me very elegant and mysterious vibes from the dancer with the slight monochrome tint and the black dress matching her pointe shoes. Even the slightly messy bun doesn't completely ruin the look. From a certain angle (or at least in my opinion) it actually complements the rest of the vibes in the picture. 😊

    Hello girls great video very very funny 😄😄😄I have a fun fact about socks and ballet shoes, very long time ago while visiting SAB in New York something caught my attention in the ballet class, all the popular girls ( like Zippora Katz for instance ) they use to were socks with point shoes, of course not knee socks but short one just above the ankle enough to contain the ribbons, the socks were very girly, pink or white with a little lace it was really a trend in that time, for me coming from Italy from La Scala theatre was it a very strange trend which I became to like after sometime 💖

    Enjoyed this; you guys keep coming up with new ideas! I always wonder why the photographer doesn't tell you the angle or line isn't flattering; they're looking directly at what they're shooting, and turn-out or awkward feet, fingers, tension, facial expression, hair, aren't that complicated to see.

      It’s hard when both the model and photographer are uneducated I guess 🫠. Thanks for watching and enjoying! 😁😁

    There are so many beautiful ballet dancers out there why don't they use them, so many beautiful shots that could have been made. But for entertainment purposes the shots are okay if slightly iffy.

    • @balletreign
      @balletreign  10 месяцев назад +2

      Exactlyyy why aren’t the real dancers the standard? But the iffy shots are what make a more interesting video for y’all 😂

    I pretty much like pink/white tights in the shoe ( rather than naked ) and a black stirrup tight over it. This gives a nice long leg.

      Yes it def elongates the leg line! It’s the most classic look ✨💕

    My dear 🩰 Reign Deers! Yet again, I have learned quite a bit from this video, which I had wrongly assumed would mostly be just having a good laugh at silly photos!
    Question: if a dancer goes to a photo shoot, and the photographer wants to have him or her pose in an unflattering manner, would the dancer be able to politely suggest changes for improvement? Or would it depend on the situation and eg. how important the photographer is or how much of a celebrity the dancer is?
    I cannot figure out why anybody wanting to take good ballet photos would not at least call up a local studio and ask if they would be willing to provide suggestions. Same with ballet portrayed in TV, movies, or music videos. The only probable reason for not looking into this beforehand would be that the artist person believes themselves to know enough about ballet, or assumes that there is no special knowledge required. 🤡
    Here is my qUeStionable contribution: There is a fun K-pop video called “Let’s dance“ by Lee Chae Yeo which starts off with a ballerina wearing red shoes: ruclips.net/video/8Z_aqJkIlQw/видео.htmlsi=J06XL_AQX8oRLe_M
    You’ll have to let me know if you can resist dancing to that song because it is ridiculously catchy!
    Thank you so much for another, entertaining and informative video! 🙏😁💐🎯🦋✨

    • @balletreign
      @balletreign  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for tuning in! We’d say that it’s pretty dependent on if the photographer is knowledgeable on dance or not. If they were, they could probably provide pointers on how to make a good shot. If both the model and the camera man are clueless then the results will be… interesting. Thank you for your contribution, def qUeSTiOnAbLe 🤣🤣

    As an art student who has taken alot of photography classes: no this doesn't look good from a photography standpoint either xD
    I mean they appearently know how to work a camera and use proper lighting but that composition is an absolute mess
    The only way I could excuse it is if that awkwardness of cutting off the foot was somehow intentional for artistic expression reasons, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an interpretation that would support that xD

    If you want some really nice 'ballet in urban areas' photos, check out Jordan Matter's channel or pictures. He's a great dance photographer in general.

    "The Red Shoes" never looked like this. And the next one is a kindergartener's fantasy of a ballet slipper, on the foot. Following this..not bad as far as a trained dancer being used..it seems....make up borrowed from Natalie Portman.

    We have a more modern dance type of class in our "school" and they wear black thighs and because of that our teacher decided to make them wear black pointe shoes instead. So it doesn't look weird, I don't understand how photographers decide to do otherwise, like does it make sense to you, sir?

    I am in no way a dancer, so I am coming at these photos with absolutely zero knowledge and there are some that even I thought were questionable.
    As for the others, I think that it is down to whatever look the photographer is trying to achieve, what they think looks good is likely completely different to what those with dance knowledge would think looks good.
    I feel like the photographers were directing them very specifically raher than letting anyone with dance experience do what they would naturally do. Not the most safe wsy to photograph. I think the pink on black is popular as an artistic choice. But, again I have no dance, nor photographic knowledge, so I could be completely wrong.
