I'm 5'7" tall, so not the easiest to lift. I was in an adagio pas de deux that started with a press lift in the wings. My partner walked on, no music, with me hoisted over his head. The music started as he lowered me SLOWLY into arabesque en pointe. That can't have been easy but he never complained. Best partner ever.
@@me67226 Most ballet companies' average height for a female is approximately 167cm (just over 5'5"). However, in Europe some companies require females to be no taller than the traditional 165cm (just shy of 5'5"), while others have a minimum height of 173cm (about 5'8"). Apparently, one company's female principal is 184 cm (over 6')!
@@me67226 I dont think so, I think 5'4-5'5 is more ideal because 5'7 on pointe makes you like 6' and male dancers are like 6' or under and you want to still be shorter than them on pointe
The angel / press lift is so hard for the male partner because you have to press up from a hard postion for the arms and then hold the female partner up for a long time. Same with the slow grand jeté which is probably why the positiion of the female partner is so awkward in that lift: it's easier to hold her directly above the head
From an audience/costumer perspective, I like the shoulder sit EXCEPT when a pancake tutu is involved. It gets so squished and awkward and I feel like it can't be nice for the guys to get a face full of tutu!
I’m not an expert on ballet by any means but I do feel you can kinda judge the skill level of a male dancer by how good he is at avoiding getting tulle up his nose. Like, if he’s got the bandwidth to think about that while keeping his partner steady then he’s doing pretty good
I'm with you on the Pas d'Esclave lift. It's an unflattering angle and the leg position is just no. Honestly, if too much of the underside of a platter tutu is showing, the lift doesn't look quite right. Kudos to all of the partners lifting dancers in such awkward positions!
I love that in the helicopter lift, you found a clip with the ballerina putting her hand on the floor to protect her nose! Never seen it, but always fear it will be needed.
I have yet to dance a pas de deluxe in ballet so I’ll just teach my firefighter bf some lifts 😂 Sidebar: Jordan you resemble Josephine from the pointe shop. Like I genuinely thought you guys were her secret daughters 😅
The dip is a staple for a reason. The highlight of Symphony in C is the ultra slow dip in the adagio movement, particularly when performed by Suzanne Farrell and Peter Martins. Farrell would lean back and let gravity take over to move her off center. Martins would support her through a super slow fall. It was breath taking
What a great idea for a topic! I'm not the biggest fan of lifts in general, but that - whatever it's called - in the Spartacus pa de deux where he lifts her up one-handed and then she tucks one leg behind the other makes even this skeptic gasp!
What an educational and enjoyable video! There must be some awkward moments during training between partners - hand placement, for example. in a way, I feel the more you explain about ballet, the more I realize the true vastness of information about this art - and how little I know! 🙏🩰🤓 Thank you very much for the video! Happy fish diving ! 🎏🤿🦢🌧🦌❤
Honestly I hate that you announce videos a day before cuz I get too hyped and I have to wait until Saturday night (I live in Europe), which often translates to Sunday morning... But still loving you girls for providing the rightful nerdy space to us all
This was so interesting to me, for lots of reasons! I'm not a ballet dancer, have never been a ballet dancer, did three ballet classes as a small girl and hated it because I've always been physically strong but not flexible, and I have no family members or friends who are ballet dancers... but there is so much enjoyable ballet content on RUclips! You two are up there with the best. This is where I was really interested by one statement in this video in particular. I didn't know until this video that entrechats were called entrechats; I called them "twiddly feet" and knew only that I didn't really like them... but I figured hey, that was just me being ignorant, and that maybe, when I'd seen more, I'd discover the beauty to them. Apparently not necessarily!! One can be a lifelong ballet nerd and have dance training and know vastly more than I do and still not really see the point to entrechats. Don't get me wrong: I can see the skill, and I give respect as ever to the dancers for the strength and timing needed to execute them correctly... but, eh, why? Why we do that? * scratches head * Keep being your glorious, nerdy selves! Your videos are fabulous.
We don't have any guys in our group, so me and my friend have been trying these different lifts and partenring steps with eachothers. Idk is it good but atleast I can now lift a girl same hight and weight as myself 👍 also your hairstyles are goalsss ❤❤
Ive always been a fan of adagio especially while partnering. Now I will say I love a good shoulder sit. Just the entrance alone while in a shoulder sit just makes you feel like royalty plus you usually get a big applause from the audience. Now I will say that Im with you about the entrechat, I am not a big fan of those at all or the royale.
Amazing!, Thank You so much, I'm 58 years old and I studied ballet just a few years, so I ever wanted was a Ballet Dancer for all my life😢, however, I'm so happy keep watching You 🇲🇽❤️🍀
This was so interesting to learn; as I never have danced a pas de deux (actually, I have not danced much of real ballet in my life...); and I didn't know that there are so many steps. I love the bluebird lift very much - I didn't know that this would be also used in other ballets...
I love you guys, enjoy all your videos, and have learned so much 🙏 I just saw Manon with Natalia Osipova, it was beyond brilliant. Could you guys cover Manon in the future please ? It would be awesome.
Really fun video! I kept giving the moves my own goofy names based on what they look like. You should have people submit them and have Jordan and Eden guess what moves they're describing based on the made-up names!
You guys are super cute, I love your videos! Can you share some information about your dance backgrounds, what style you trained in, how long you trained for, whether you've ever danced professionally etc
I LOVE this video!!! I love dancing with my partner and I think one of the most “terrible” things of PDDs is changing partners. I think my favorites are the thrust lifts (sorry if my English has exited the chat 💬) or anything that involves me throwing all caution and consequences and thrusting myself so that my partner catches me or running at him so that he lifts me. If it involves danger, count me in. However, story time: I’d changed partners and his previous partner wasn’t as eager to shall we say pull her own weight so when I came at him he thought he was lifting dead weight and I went over the falls 🇵🇹🇧🇷🩰😂 23:40
*giggles in salsa cabaret* But honestly I'm so glad I did gymnastics and then a decade of ballet to not be afraid to do ridiculous lifts at high speed in salsa and hustle. And can I thank my ballet training enough for not being thrown off by being dizzy in salsa and hustle?!
I love quarte and six because it makes me think of a bird. Especially, little birds learning to fly. I guess that’s why there is so much beating in Bluebird 😂
As a nonbinary dancer I feel like pas de deux has all of the steps that show off the biggest gap between what I was initially taught and the roles I've had in the last few productions I've been in- I love how cool they look but am always struggling with a) being shorter than the person I'm partnering and b) being terrified of lifts regardless of what side of them I'm on I think I've always loved the "assisted jump" lifts though, especially when they are fast- my studio used to have a Hansel and Gretel production yearly with relatively unique choreography and it was fun to watch the way Gretel and the Witch dancing together like that brought the climax of the story together (And then I had to do a shoulder sit lift matching height with someone else with our Gretel (who was taller than me) balanced on myself and someone else's shoulder and my fear of lifts made that one difficult for everyone...lol)
I just had a second look to pick up details. I realized that Eden now has a cooling fan at the back of her head. Is it new or has she jut not tuned her head as much before today?
I was a cheerleader in middle school and high school. Getting thrown up in the air does make you want to pucker your booty hole, but that's a good thing! As you said, it's got the wow factor; the crowd loves it, and it's fun! Also, keeping your muscles tight when being a flyer or dancer who gets lifted helps your partner grab onto you and move you more safely. What's easier to catch and move precisely? A dry, stiff noodle or a wet, limp one? I'm going to choose the uncooked noodles every time.
Hi girls, I love your videos but I would like to see the small videos about the steps a little much longer, and also I would like to know the names of the dancers and company ? maybe it is not possible because of the copyrights ?
I love this video! I'm starting ballet lessons for the first time in 2 weeks exactly. I've loved it for years and so know a lot of these steps but don't the names, so this is actually really helpful! I love both of your vibes, and the term ballet nerds!
Thanks for that exquisite list, Jordan and Eden! Now I know even better what to look out for in pas-de-deux. This past week I've been somewhat obsessed by the one in 'Flames of Paris', with Osipova and Vasiliev: ruclips.net/video/3p_PxsqnClc/видео.html You're not only leaving me with a happy smile, as always, you're also polishing up my nerdism (is that a word? It is now!) - thanks!

Maybe he was just afraid that you would beat him up, if he said that you were heavy.
Aren't most Ballerinas at least 5'7" or more.

I love entrechats because they make the legs look shimmery. Love them even more in male jumps.
I love that in the helicopter lift, you found a clip with the ballerina putting her hand on the floor to protect her nose! Never seen it, but always fear it will be needed.
Haha that one was from Le Grand Pas De Deux. We did a commentary on that a while back, the whole thing is hilarious 😂😂
Trust dives look so much fun!! The one in Tchaikovsky pdd and in Coppélia finale are my favorites!
Exquisite! Congrats on the partnership with the beautiful jewels! And, happy Eden still has her beautiful nose! LOL.
Hahaha we’re very glad too. Eden is rather attached to her nose 😂😂
I have yet to dance a pas de deluxe in ballet so I’ll just teach my firefighter bf some lifts 😂 Sidebar: Jordan you resemble Josephine from the pointe shop. Like I genuinely thought you guys were her secret daughters 😅
The T Lift looks like a WWE move imo
could you invite a danseur maybe to guest in a video to do these for a male version?
We’d love to 😆😆
I totally second this
I didn’t know fish dive is considered easy, still it always looks so flashy I’d put it at exquisite

Would love to see a video of your favorite ballet pas de deux pairings/partners. I think my favorite is still Alina Cojocaru & Johan Kobborg.
Great suggestion, that would be a great topic, thank you for sharing your favorite pairing!
What a great idea for a topic!

How does every step look 10 times more beautiful when its in The Dream?
RIGHT?? 🤩🤩
The lifts looks so exquisite but also slightly scary.
You two are just too adorable.

You are pleasantly hilarious! So knowledgeable and beautiful! Who ever edits, bravo, bravo! 👏👏👏👏👏

I feel like the straight up shoulder sit and the flying shoulder sit are two different beasts. Straight up isn’t scary but flying is terrifying.

paloma 317 and Joao Pedro 201 ! great dancers ..... so much enthusiasm, talent and hard work !

Ooh that would be interesting, thank you for your suggestions 😊
What is the difference between pirouettes and whip turns?
What`s the difference between the pirouette and the whip turn?🙏
Pirouette starts with two feet on the floor and whip turn you begin on one leg. Hope that helps! ✨
Thanks! They look so similar, but your reactions to them were so different 😄
I hate all entrechat jumps😂

Yes definitely, we have lots to say about the steps in another video, glad you want more :) Thank you for the suggestions 😊

Entrechats are pretty, to each their own though
A pleasure as always, but maybe the tempo of the presentation was a little to fast for my taste.
Thanks for ur feedback! ✨✨

As a guy if I made a tier list with these, they’d all be f. Pas de duex is just tiring and makes your arms hurt
Haha yall def have it harder lol 😂 but ur so so important and we appreciate everything u do ✨✨
Pas e’sclave belongs just where you put it. I never liked that move.
Heheh there’s definitely prettier lifts out there 😅😅
Okay...I give up...what is baptizing the sandwich? Other than an interesting google search.
LOL never mind. I'm watching the Barbie episode, and I have SEEN THE SANDWICH.
