PRS 2021 S2 Lineup - Why spend DOUBLE on a Core Model?

  • Combining a mid-market price tag with the cachet of a US-built instrument, the S2 models could genuinely be the best of both worlds. These guitars are designed to look great either fresh out of the box, or with the scars & bruises of a cross-country tour. But, how do these S2 models stack up against their Core line counterparts?
    In our most recent PRS shipment, we took in some incredible examples of their Wood Library and Core Line output, (unboxing seen here: • PRS Unboxing - 19th Ja... ), however what has continued to jump out to us ever since their release is the PRS S2 line up.
    In this video, Jack takes a closer look at what makes these guitars so fantastic in our eyes, focusing on the McCarty 594 Thinline, 35th Anniversary Custom 24 and the Studio. We feel these models best represent what the S2 range is all about, though you can check out the full range of models on our site.
    Be sure to like, comment below with your thoughts and let us know your favourite from the selection!

    Jack’s playing is stellar as always but I might argue that the Custom 24 has a pretty cool, classic tone with those pickups. The licks played on that guitar sounded like he could have been playing with the Black Crowes. Killer tone. It also reminded me of a DGT model a little bit which is a great guitar. I like them all but in this video I think that he flagship Custom 24 wins the day. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Thanks for a great video and comparison.

    • @clugokillscluco
      @clugokillscluco 3 года назад +3

      Honestly, I would not worry about the wear difference of nickel and SS. Unless it's your only guitar and you are actively gigging and practicing, it will take YEARS to see tangible wear. I bought my American Fender back in '07, was in a band for 4 years gigging and practicing. No longer in a band but I still play it all the time. I have no visible wear on my frets.

    I love the S2 guitars. The main difference and selling point...are the pickups. The S2 pickups DO NOT sound the same as the USA made counterparts. Anyone who says they do are tone deaf...which is not an insult. Many people don't know what to "hear" for. Its like people who can't taste the differences in wine. The S2 pickups in my opinion are WAY better than the average DiMarzio. Seymour Duncan, etc. They are more harmonic and rich sounding to me.

      You’re right, but keep something in mind. All the money is spent on the wood, finish, and literally perfect fretwork. It’s very easy to change pickups. I’ve had 2 S2 guitars for the last 3 years. Do you know what I’ve changed on them? NOTHING. They’ve been in gig rotation with my core guitars. I'm not a fan of the PRS 'sound', and these guitars have not changed my mind. A Joe Bonamassa Epiphone which is similar in price to these, will blow any of these PRS S2 guitars out of the water. The S2 is OK for beginners, but even then, I'd rather go with a Squier, and save a few hundred bucks.
