I'm a grateful owner of one of these guitars. It's my first ever PRS. When I plug it in, I have this feeling that I'm somehow playing a piano. It's magical. Thank you Robben, Paul, and PRS.
He has been recognized, but mainly outside of the USA. He has been a staple in Paris France, playing all the small clubs. I owned one of the Fender Robben Ford model. This new Robben Ford may be the only reason I would consider a PRS.
If they ever do an SE, I am all over this. I remember thinking at 12 in Scotland when first learning guitar- surrounded by metal fans as a blues lover- that I’d love to be able to combine blues sensibilities with the same kind of technical skill and out of the box musical thinking as jazz players and some of the more melodic metal players. I didn’t know what that was till I heard Robben Ford. Thought it didn’t exist. He was immense for me.
Robben Ford can play any manufacturer's brand guitar 🎸 /amp and have it sound like no other ! It's in the mind and hands boys and girls , and not so much the instrument's brand name ! You're still going to sound like yourself no matter what signature guitar/amp one plays !
I am so fucking happy for Robben Ford. It's so amazing that he's finally getting the right recognition he's deserved. Matt Schofield should get his signature model too :(
The tones in this demo sound scary like the tones Robben got on his Robben Ford & The Blue Line album. Paul and his crew nailed those classic tones in this guitar.
I own five PRS guitars, three core and 2 se's and they are literally the best made instruments I have ever owned. The biggest issue I hear people talking about when it comes to PRS is the cost. With the other big manufacturers rapidly approaching the 2-3k price point, this seems like less and less of a point. Robben put it best, it's about playability. If I pay three thousand dollars for an instrument, it's not unreasonable to expect the quality. All three of my core PRS's came out of the box perfectly set up and pretty close to in tune perfectly
Couldn't agree more! I own 7 core PRS myself and every one is flawless, extremely playable, tonally beautiful and balanced, and most importantly rock solid and reliable... As for the price, they are 'cheaper' than Gibson Custom Shop and much more consistent too, you'll often find something you don't expect from a quality perspective or even an instrument built by 'experts'. They can pass it off as 'Authentic' because Gibsons were built by factory workers, not luthiers with little/no QC in the 50's too. When you have PRS with their excellent Quality Control and very 'precise' standards to meet before a guitar can progress to the next stage, then you improve consistency and quality throughout to deliver a extremely high end, high quality instrument.
Nonsense. And this is not a 2-3k guitar by any stretch. Also they may play great but outside of the JM sigs, they don’t have their own distinguishable sound. They are pretty sterile sounding for the most part.
I've loved Robben Ford from the first time I heard him in the 80s. IMO, there are very few artists that can even come close to his level of playing. Congrats Robben, so great you are still playing and still sound amazing. Paul, what took you so long? !
Congrats to both parties for getting together. The influence of Robben Ford on the guitar buying public I don’t think is fully understood or appreciated by most makers. As a player I’m of course in awe of his abilities but when listening to his music that quickly fades away as I’m pulled into the emotion of his art. A very special talent.
When you have such a strong and instantly recognizable VOICE on your instrument like Mr. Ford then this voice will get heard on most any guitar that's halfway playable. RF played so many different models over the past 50 years of his career, it's staggering - but he is known and loved and respected for the NOTES he plays, his amazing TIME feel and only the guitar nerds are endlessly discussing the gear he's using on any given tune. Which other living guitarist gets more respect, reverence and admiration from his fellow musicians ? Can't think of any ... so it's not really the recognition - he's got that - I find it much more interesting that it took PRS so many years to get him on board again. IIRC it was David Grissom who got his first McCarty Trem model from PRS which originally was meant for RF but that obviously didn't work out at the time. The McCarty Trem became the DGT model and it's going strong ....
OMG! i want these Pick ups in my PRS! I have heard 2 different demos of this guitar and both times these pick ups sound fantastic! I love PRS guitars but if i was listening blindfolded i would not be able to tell that was a McCarty, it sounds very different!
I've never had the pleasure of playing a PRS but I can say honestly in my opinion he makes the best looking guitars I've ever seen. I've never seen one that I didn't wish I had and I can't say that about any other maker of fine fiddles.
Robben Ford can trace his musical heritage back to Charlie Parker through Jimmy Witherspoon. It ‘s so cool that he’s taken good care of himself and we all get to hear him playing like nobody else. Fresh and full of ideas. Kudo’s to PRS for acknowledging such a consummate musician.
My guitar teacher told me about this guitarist. Been listening to his work, & it’s motivation for me as a beginner. It’s awesome that he has a signature model with this Brand!
Robben is a fantastic guitar player. A savant of the guitar I would say. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him play in Nashville. Oh. The guitar is sweet !
Here Since 1999 from my first custom build. That's one hell of an endorsement. I prefer this stop tail to almost anything I have found on a guitar. Probably similarly to a 54 with actual intonation considerations. Great to see you playing an instrument that has been my preference over the years Robin!
This is one of those guys that when you're talking about giants in the world of guitar that you never just come right out with his name. Someone else mentions him and you're like "hell yeah! That guy is killer! I forgot all about him!" Same with guys like Robin Trower or Chris Buck. I love all these guys, but the media has their darlings and these guys never get their due. I love everything about this guitar. And the artist. Paul is really on his game. Batting in the high % for sure!
Beauty! I bought a 10 top double cut early McCarty and loved it’s playability but grew tired of the double cut shape and how beautiful the finish was. So I sold it. I hope you are signaturing a single cut version?
living legend if a player, amazing guitar. I used to doubt the hype if PRS, until I played one. then I finally acquired one and I gotta say, in this case the hype is real. there's no such thing as 1 guitar that does everything. but these things are so well made and play/sound amazing. wish I could buy these robben Ford pickups separately.
I'm usually not really a fan of PRS pickups. I think they tend to be a bit dark for my tastes but these are amazing. Like the Silver Sky and the Fiore, when Paul crafts pickups for artists, it's magic.
I agree, that's why i replaced the pup's in my '11 SE Custom 24 with Gibson's 500T and 496R, then i sanded all the gloss off the back of the neck and applied some gunstock oil... now she's ready to go!
Interesting how its 22 frets and not 24, yet PRS discontinued the PRS SE 22. How much is it? When will the SE model be available? Good to see Robben get some recognition.
I just like hearing Robben talk about guitar, music and hearing him noodle. I have watched this video numerous times. I have also realized it is all in his fingers, and it is fruitless to try to sound like him lol, because I never will.
If Robben Ford is giving you praise, then you know you've done something right. That guitar sounds great, looks great and, I'm sure, plays great. Side note, kinda wish he didn't dye his hair. All natural is the way to be, IMO.
It’s a wonderful sound with a commanding finish! No surprise re: the splitter switch. It’s placement kind of looks a bit like the Fender Elites a generation ago. I wonder if this pickup design uses Paul’s TCI sonic design? Both p/u settings sound sonically familiar. I can only imagine the $$ (Gulp).
Been playing guitar for 30+ years and I’m not really impressed with my playing. However, I’m proud to say that someone as accomplished as Robben, a real virtuoso , senses the same the same thing in PRS guitars that I do - that these are the most playable guitars on the market today, and have been for some time.
Love the innovation of PRS, just Disagree with what was said about Paul being the only one innovating. Ernie Ball Music Man has been innovating pretty much constantly too.
Congratulations to Robben and Paul. Very nice guitar. I want those pups in one of my Core PRSi…like my 2001 Tobacco Burst McCarty.😉 My first real guitar was a 1981 all black Ibanez AR-50. Always liked all black.
Hats off to Robben. True legend. Playability aspect mentioned did resonate. I was never a fan of ascetics, namely headstock, so I do not own PRS guitar. Friend of mine lent me his Brent Mason model for a weekend. It was so well put together, from trem to the first fret, same for electric circuits. Everything worked great. I was very impressed. Did I buy PRS? No, but it made me a lurker so I guess that is something :)
Bobby Ingram, the lead in Molly Hatchet only plays PRS. He loves them. He has quite a few. He got them for endorsements obviously. Lucky him. He likes the sound on slide alot
Maybe some day PRS will introduce a Robben Ford amp that perfectly captures the sound of his Dumble which is basically the only overdriven sound I find to be musical.
I am so glad they used the original McCarty as the basis for the Robben Ford, and not the 594. The neck profile, scale and stop bar bridge are all superior to the 594 IMO.
I'm a grateful owner of one of these guitars. It's my first ever PRS. When I plug it in, I have this feeling that I'm somehow playing a piano. It's magical. Thank you Robben, Paul, and PRS.
I’m happy for him. Finally getting the recognition he deserves. Such a very likeable guy too. Congratulations!!
He has been recognized, but mainly outside of the USA. He has been a staple in Paris France, playing all the small clubs. I owned one of the Fender Robben Ford model. This new Robben Ford may be the only reason I would consider a PRS.
Robben, this guitar is long overdue. You’re an icon of guitar playing and showmanship.
I may be in the minority…but I love a solid color PRS…sometimes the fancy wood is just too over the top…but, hey, to each his own!!!
I'm with you! I love colorful guitars, but PRS does get crazy with their maple tops sometimes. That black was just beautiful.
I don’t mind I figured top, but some of those wood libraries are just so ridiculously over the top with figure it would be embarrassing to play
I have a 10 top McCarty, and while I love it’s beauty, I do appreciate a simple solid color. And dot abalone fret markers for that matter.
S2 for the win
Agree

Congrats to PRS for this fine partnership with Robben! Totally amazing guitarrist
I am very happy for Robben because this can demonstrate that Paul can satisfy anyone with his amazing company and guitars
Sorry but no, it demonstrate just that everybody needs money
@@mrAbelaAbela So true, everybody does need money.
Even ford can’t make a PRS sound alive.
@@mrAbelaAbela I don't recall ever witnessing Robben and Paul other than candid and genuine, so that doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah!!! Such a beautiful guitar in the hands of a master player. So good!! Congratulations to Robben, Paul and the whole PRS team!
I am so fucking happy for Robben Ford. It's so amazing that he's finally getting the right recognition he's deserved.
Matt Schofield should get his signature model too :(
Robben has a Fender signature model from the late 90's as well. Great to see the similarities between the two models even after 20+ years
The tones in this demo sound scary like the tones Robben got on his Robben Ford & The Blue Line album.
Paul and his crew nailed those classic tones in this guitar.
Well done Paul, PRS Team and of course Robben. True leaders in innovation today 👊🏻
Man... Ford, Grissom, Mayer... PRS is killing it!
My favorite guitarist such nice tone and always beautiful songs and arrangements. See him live what a band !!

Wow... If Robben is happy with this... mere mortals should be!.
Man literally inspired Alexander Howard Dumble to make Dumble Amps. That's all I got to say. Speaks volumes for Robben Ford's ability as a player.
Just beautiful! I have a black 594 that looks like this and i love it !
