I love this! I started the year with 38 WIP’s and no plan other than just get them done. After 5 months of plodding along I still have 26 left and am completely overwhelmed! This kind of planning is what I have needed. Breaking up the projects into smaller goals is brilliant and I am excited to get started making my plan for June! Thank you so much!!! I’ll be watching this over and over as inspiration 😊

Holy crap. You must be a really fast knitter to plan so many projects in one month. Good for u. 😊

In a way I'm the same way. In the morning I do something simple, in the afternoon and evening time I work on the project I need to finish and then in the evening I would either work on something that puts my brain to the test or something simple. Then continue that process. I do have some projects that I have to complete in 6 months time, I'm trying to finish those, but I keep telling myself that I can. 🤗. Thanks for uplifting my positivity.

Thank you for sharing your process, Natalie! For me it's more fun to CO than to finish, so this will keep me accountable to finish more WIPS, and move through my stash. I really enjoy and look forward to your podcasts.

Can you please also make a video at the end of the month showing what you managed to do and what changed along the way? And what you plan to do differently each month or how your strategies change over time. I am a perfectionist and often get caught up in feelings of failure when I don’t meet my goals. So I am really curious as to how you deal with that and tips and tricks on how to cope with “failing” at your set goals.

I love the planning that you do for your projects! I keep a calendar planner and jot whatever the last row or write "completed" so that I know what it is I've done last. Im going to plan more like what you've done with WIPs, and new cast on projects! I'm sure to keep things moving along with helpful tips like the ones you shown!

All of my wip's, new cast-ons, and finished projects are basically in just two categories. I only knit socks and crochet blankets. But I do admire how your personal skills have you organize them in a journal. You're concise and completely spot on in your goals Nat. Nice podcast. Hopefully some of your viewers will create their own monthly plannings as you have indicated. Ken

I love the idea of using two colors for the body of the shorts ! I was a tester for the Twisted Tea shorts and I love them. I ended up making a reverse matching Secret Summer Tank with my leftovers

This planning process was so satisfying to watch. I am always struggling with my projects. Because I have a lot of projects on the go (more than 10), so I always feel guilty for not working on them and instead casting on something new. But I also want to cast on new projects if I see something I like and not force myself to work on something I don’t like to work on at the moment. So it’s a constant struggle. The fact you allow yourself to cast on a few projects every month in spite of not finishing everything from last month is an eyeopener. I am going to try this process for the month of June. Wish me luck!

I am definitely a planner, just like you. I have been doing 'maintenance planning' for quite some time now, I just didn't call it that. I find that it works best as it helps you complete a few WIPS at a time and then you don't feel super overwhelmed by all of your projects. I also enjoy the whole process of planning, so my journal is a little more colourful and vibrant LOL. Thanks for an awesome video : )

💡 this was really helpful. I love planning and I have three planners…. One each for work, crafts and a catch all for life. I then found out how terrible I was at it and my planners were put on the back burner. I realize after listening to your podcast that I am fighting perfectionism. So many light bulbs recently… I am going to try to use this!

I love your planning ideas! This year I bought a journal to start tracking my knitting and quilting projects and I am definitly going to incorporate your planning techniques into both hobbies! I often overwhelm myself with all the things I want to start and finish and I love how this will help to sort and settle my thoughts on it!

Hi Natalie! Mine is similar to yours. I have a notebook and I plan for the next month by looking at my current month on the progress I did for that current month. I have different categories like Project Plans for the month, WIPs, cast on, knit a long/ make a long, Finished objects and notes.

That Twisted Tea Shorts pattern is so cool! I'd do the white for the contrast waistband/edge and then in between I could see a fade of those two colors (pink into purple or vice versa) being super cute! But alternating would also be really pretty.

Really enjoyed this! Right now in my life, I find that switching between projects really slows me down, so I just have one main project a week (rotating cycle of three weeks- one project for me, one for my daughter or a gift, and one week of needlepoint/ embroidery ). However I always have whichever is the simplest handy so I can grab something if I’m on a conference call or need something comforting!

Nice one Natalie! I’m going to try a variation of your planning system. I’m switching the CO and finishing columns and replacing maintenance with progress goals for bigger projects. I’m also thinking that not being overly ambitious would work well as well as being relaxed and flexible. Love the pink pen!!

I just made a pair of the twisted tea shorts and I live in them!!! I'm going to make some more pairs and am wondering myself which of my stash yarn colors I want to use. If it were me, making a new pair, knowing what I know now, I would use the more purple color as the main color on the shorts (I prefer darker colors on my bottom half) and mix in the pink if you are worried, but depending on your size, you might get away with one skein, I knit the size 4, but shortened the body and only used one skein. I think the speckled yarn would look pretty as a tee. And the pink as accent on the shorts (the waist band is so comfy and stretchy) and tee.

ok, I was not even thinking about helical knitting at all! but could you fade the purple and pink and the cream for the CC? And then you might even have enough of the cream left for a matching beachcomber tank!!

My problem is I way over-estimate my productivity so I will say “yes I will finish this sweater yoke by Wednesday evening so I can split the sleeves and take the body to knit night on Thursday”…then I realise the yoke is in 3 sections, etc and there’s absolutely no way I can’t finish it in a week, more like 3 or 4 depending on how distracted I get with other things.
