When DVD players were NEW, it was one of the rare nights my sister and I were left to my dad's supervision. We went to Circuit City (RIP) and bought a DVD player, and my sister and I each got to choose a movie. I don't remember what she got but my dad saw RH2 on the shelf and was like "You want this?" I hadn't seen the first, and even though I was like 11 that surprised my dad and he said "Oh we're getting this then". Then he also bought one of those giant bags of peanut M&M's that were pastel for Easter. I will never ever ever forget it. And probably why RH2 is simply one of my favorite movies ever. Sorry that was long. I was enjoying going down memory lane
He practiced that routine over and over again to get it right just for that scene along with the cantonese. He was not a marshal artist at that time nor did he speak Cantonese... which makes it more impressive.
I love Ziyi Zhang (Hu Li) in this movie. She plays a villain so well, rocks a red lipstick, and makes a great femme fatale. She was also great in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters as Dr. Ilene Chen and Ling Chen. One of my favorite comedic parts: James Carter: Just tell me how the Triads gon' kill us. Lee: They will torture us for three days. James Carter: I can handle that. Lee: Then they will cut off our eggrolls. James Carter: Cut off our eggrolls? Hell no! Let's get the hell outta here! Side note: Michael Jackson watched this movie around the time he was planning out his short film for the song "You Rock My World" and contacted Chris Tucker for a guest starring role and Chris stated in interviews that Michael told him "I've seen your movie Rush Hour 2, you're kickin' with the wrong leg". 😆😆🤣🤣
My favorite addition to the MJ story was that after they became good friends Chris surprised MJ on stage mid performance and kicked with the wrong leg. MJ just dropped laughing.
Fun Fact: In the club scene, Chris Tucker's recognizable Cantonese word, "Fun Gow", actually means Sleep, not what was translated. This whole movie's "translations" are actually wrong to make it funnier. The only thing that was remotely recognizable which was exciting to see was Don Cheadle's Cantonese speaking.
Jackie Chan stunts in this movie in the first are nothing compared to what he does in the movies he makes in Hong Kong. Most of them are dubbed English so I would check them out if you like those humor mixed with action and crazy stunts. The super cop franchise, who am I, rumble in the Bronx, drunken Master, police story, Jackie has so many awesome movies she even was in the 80s movie cannonball run.
You gotta watch the 1st to really appreciate the 2nd. It's almost like Alien and Aliens, where they somehow made a sequel that outdoes the original, but you need the original to lay the groundwork.
