Welcome!
On this channel you can expect video-blogs, technical instructions, flying techniques and much more about the wonderful world of commercial aviation and the life of airline pilots.
I am using my 13 years of experience as an airline pilot, training-captain and TRI/TRE to give you MY view of the airline business and the role of an airline pilot.
All the content is intended to give you a positive and constructive view into the fantastic world of commercial aviation.
Please keep your comments and questions in the same spirit and please INTERACT. The channel becomes much better then and its intended for YOUR benefit.
The content on this channel is for info and entertainment only and is not intended to replace any existing FCOM manuals or SOP's.
I am only talking for myself and do not represent any specific company, airline or entity.
I never had a mentor when I was a kid. I soloed when I was 15. Cessna 150 ..mom & dad didn’t even know or didn’t care. Wish there was stuff like this back in the 70’s
Although I will forever admire my educators - I will always regret not having you as my ground school/flight instructor back in the days of my aviation studies.
In Canada, almost no "big" airline will look at you as a prospect pilot with less than 1500 hours, not even for their regional. The small airlines (first nation, summer bush planes, small commuter, etc.) take pilots from 250 hours, normally those airlines fly small prop planes or turbo prop.. I haven't heard of any case like in Europe that with 250 hours you would get employed to fly jetliners (737, Avro, A320, etc.). Great video as always!
Diego KF There are exceptions for the 1500hrs "rule". Most airlines in Canada have partnerships with flight schools/post-secondary institutions (MRU and Seneca College for example) where students will get greatly reduced hour requirements via certain criteria.
AWC yes that’s true. My school is in collaboration with Westjet we can register at 250 CPL mIR + Iatra and expect and interview around 700hrs and to go online around that with Link and around 1000hrs with encore
Diego KF As a European (Switzerland) I’d like to work for a small Canadian bush airline to build flight hours and experience. But I’ve heard that Canadian policies in this case (working permits for foreigners) are pretty strict. Do you know if it is still possible to get a working visa? And is a CPL with around 200+ h enough for most bush flying companies?
Tranefine there is no simple answer I’m afraid. If you have a degree you may be able to apply for permanent residence (check the IRCC points calculator online you’ll need about 500 pts) then you’ll need to transfer your EASA to a Canadian CPL. Some northern bush airlines will only employ Canadian passport holders (1000 days after getting PR) but some will hire with a Canadian CPL M/IR and a minimum 2 year work visa in place. It’s unlikely you’ll get a straight work permit because the employer would have to carry out an LMIA which they’re unwilling to do as it costs them around $1200 per applicant and brings a lot of ‘heat’ on the business. All of their books are paperwork are audited by the authorities. If you need anymore help just message me, I’m a UK resident with a Canadian CPL about to go to a Canadian bush airline so I’m right in the thick of it now. Good luck
Even when you have 1500 most of them require type rating 😅
As to what you said in the begining. That is half true, the FAA allows pilots to split the cost of doing a cross country flight like putting a flyer on a cork board at the local FBO that says say "Looking to fly to teterboro to Farmingdale cal xxx-xxx-xxxx for info to split costs".
perfect timing for this vid, starting my CPL course next month!
Nice, hopefully I can start mine in 2 years. But I wish you good luck man.
@@IsThisRain did you get it? 😁 It's been 2 years
@@bestedits. Nah lol, I decided it wasn't worth it and chose to study accounting instead. I'm still gonna get my PPL though
Got it? It’s been 6 years

Wow a little overwhelming to take 40 exams. I'm overwhelmed just by the nine I have to take for PPL. Great video as always, very useful information!
(I wish I had that wallpaper when I was younger!)
+Mentour Pilot ahhh OK thanks! no worries probably just my hearing watching late at night
Hi...thanks for your videos - they are great. Can you do a podcast talking about other career options for a comercial pilot other than airlines? Like air taxi and so on? And talk about salaries and opportunities for those options? Thanks
Another great video captain!! 👍🏼✈️
Hey Mentour Pilot, sorry for my inactivity those past couple months! First of all I just want to say, WOW! I'm extremely happy to see your channel growing at a rapid rate. You deserve it! Reason why I've been inactive, is because I've been focusing on my flight training. Today, I obtained my PPL. And I want to thank you for the positive impact you've had in my life! Thank you for posting those videos and keep up the amazing work!
+Timmy Soars That's Amazing, keep it up mate! i too will start my training in next few months. I just hope i can do good or even better. Good luck for you :)

So how are you guys doing? :)
great video! I did not think about all the things you could do with a regular CPL before. Did you ever do any of those other jobs you mentioned before you flew for an airline?
Damn looking at this in 2020 gives me hope to keep the grind
I just subscribed your channel. I have been watching your poscast all day all night for 3days now. I strongly interested in doing a job in aviation.as a pilot.I found your podcast channel. is really useful. thank you

Another fantastic video! Thank you for what you do!
Excellent video well explained.
Hello Sir! Could you please make a podcast explaining about the ATPL programme allowing to get an EASA license. I would like to know the advantages/ disadvantages of the EASA license. Thank you
This is a great series
Giggidy
Hi Mentour,
I just recently found your channel, and have just subscribed. I have really enjoyed your content.
This is my first ever comment on any of your videos.
So I would like to ask you more questions in the future, I hope that's not a problem for you to answer my questions.
I am in the UK and I am in my final year at secondary (high) school. My number one goal in life is to become a Commercial Airline Pilot. I am going to be doing my GCSEs soon. The problem is that I am really struggling to get the best grades possible in each and every one of the subjects that I am doing. So my questions to you are:
1. How can I get good grades? What can I do?
2. Did you struggle at school? If so, what did you do to get the best grades?
3. Do you have any tips or techniques to help get the best grades?
4. Are grades important, or looked at, when applying for a pilot's role? Can you still a job if your results aren't good enough?
Thanks,
I look forward to your reply.
Hi Mentour, I have watched your videos about achieving your licences and doing your training, but I (and I'm sure many others) don't have many thousands of pounds lying around to pay for this training. Is sponsoring the only way to avoid this( as in the huge costs)? Thanks. p.s love your videos :)
superbvideo captain
The intros and outros are getting prettier :P
Great video!
I like the background very much! Which licenses do you think the characters of the movie Planes have? :D
+Mentour Pilot which airline
I started checking out your videos a couple of days ago, i love your new wallpapers!
Looking forward to start my training towards ATPL next year!
Thanks for your very useful videos!

Oskar (Sweden)
Thank you so much, I can't tell you how helpful this was! Nice to know I was looking into the right things!
Dear sir, u r really amazing for helping guys like me, as we are facing several doubts regarding pilot jobs and licenses. thanks again. But sir I need you help me with this, I'm Indian and I would like to settle abroad as an air line pilot, I'm gud with finance and all, but in confusion to select where to do my course either in USA or Europe.
Sir... Can you suggest at least 3 pilot schools in USA and Europe please
Quick Q: I saw some flight schools in Europe offering the complete course (PPL+CPL), and, according to their plan, you'd take the CPL exam with 200 hours TOTAL (45 from PPL + 165 from the CPL)....is it true that you count the PPL course's flight hours as flying experience valid to attain (eventually) your CPL under EASA regs?
Yes. They're part of your Accumulated experience hours. You start logging your time from the very first time you took to the sky with your flight instructor.
And I hope you're already a pilot now 🤓🤓🤓 cheers
I'm pretty sure that a PPL allows you to accept money to share the cost of renting an aircraft.
Please correct me if I'm wrong :)
Hi, Could you explain that what is difference between FAA, EASA and JAA. can we convert it to each other?
Thank you for the podcast Mentour!
+Mentour Pilot Could you please briefly define the difference between a Recreational Pilots License and a PPL. Thanks again
+Aaron Williamson I believe an RPL only lets you have 1 passengers, disable you to fly at night unless the skies are good, and it restricts you from flying multi engine aircrafts.
But that's just the gist of it, at least here in Australia.
+Is This Nikko? Thank you!
Aaron Williamson Always welcome man.
+Is This Nikko? How long did it take you to get your RPL?
Hi. Great videos, it is helping me for the future. Have you done a podcast about tiredness and what happens if u don't get any sleep. Can you still fly the next day or not.
Thanks
Sam
+Mentour Pilot thanks for the reply and thanks for the help. keep up the good work and as always i will keep watching. :)
very good video as always. Could you please answer this. Can pilots sleep a little during very long flights(9hours+)
+Mentour Pilot thankyou so much for this video enjoyed it and very informative
+Mentour Pilot I was to reply to you and then I thought, 'what's mentour's real name, is it really mentour ?' Hmm
i want to go to a good univecity to study aviation , but it's hard
KamilooSatha Vlogs its spelled university
Thank you
hi u have very good videos and i want to ask you all the steps i have to do as a young boy to become a commercial pilot. thank you !!
Thank you very much! !
Damnit being a pilot is expensive, but it all pays off in the end am I right?
HI MENTOUR
thanks a lot about all your amazing video..
just a would like to inquire how can I choose the perfect aviation school to get the CPL.IR.ME .FROZEN ATPL (EASA) because there are to much school around Europe can provide this licens but as well much of them not certified by authority of civil aviation .. how i can choose the right school which is certified and trusted to get a licence acceptable any airlines around the world? !!
I am greedy for your response
Hy Mentour,What flight school do you reccomend,Is a flight school reputation important
I have 360 hours , on my PPL, but I want to work for a company like private charter, sightseeing types, I Am in Kentucky USA, what's my next step?
Great video. Do you need a PPL to get a CPL?
Ryan El-Assaad Yes. You need your PPL license and a minimum of 100 hours flight time before you can write the CPAER (CPL test), and 200 hours before you can actually receive your CPL.
if you want to do modular courses, then you need a PPL before moving to the CPL. but if you follow an integrated course (iCPL or iATPL), then there is no need to qualify as a private pilot. you will learn everything at once.
for example if you go for an iCPL, at the end of the training, you will have a CPL with instrument rating (IR) and multi engine (ME), in other words, it also covers your PPL and your Night Rating.
sir can air force pilot fly for commercial airlines if yes..then how? & what is course cost then? and how they handle difference between commercial & defence aircrafts..
If one cannot charge for flying services with a PPL, please tell me how general aviation pilots make their money. GA is not common in my country
great video Mentour.
just wondering what subjects should you do to be a pilot?
I don't know how you pick in Sweden but in Ireland we get to choose 4 aswell as 3 mandatory subjects (maths Irish and English).
Are some subjects a necessity to have to be a pilot ?
+Greg Brenner OK thank man I'll have a look.
Hi ! Is it possible to get a job in Europe with JUST a CPL ? Doesent all airlines still require more than that like IR + great amount of flying hours ?
Hi captain 👨✈️!
Hello!
***** who will authenticate pilot 's log book? The log books I have barely seen on internet just has columns for hours, type of aircraft etc. I'm very much curios to know the answer. :)
Hi, i got my CPL/IR on USA and came back to my country (latin america) and got my ICAO CPL/IR.
i have about 270 Hrs
I have Italian nationality and im looking to get the EASA with frozen ATPL I dont know where to start my process and I am also trying to find out the best prices. i have a brother that lives in hamburg, germany (this help me with the housing to lower my budget if i find a school there) but I heard that in Sweden it's cheaper to do this conversion. after this i would like to get into the Ryanair cadet program.
if you have any info thanks guys
Hello. I'm called George. I've a EASA CPL licence. May I fly now in Air company like copilot on B-737 or A-320 in case when I'll make type rating? Thank you in advance.
Hi sir :) one of your indian fan here ! so basically I'm 16 as of now and i do dream to become a pilot( although my parents are not supportive :( ) my question is.. Once I attain my cpl .. Would I be qualified enough to join an airlines ? What about the type rating and flying hours? At the end of the course I would have 200hrs of flying on single and multi engine planes.. Would I be requring the type rating .. If yes how do I get it ? And how do I come to know which type rating should I get as plane may differ from airlines to airlines . Is becoming trainee pilot itself equivalent to getting a typeratin? Looking forward for your answer! :D
Good questions would love to know!
Regards Oscar
+Harsh Gupta even i'm 16
same name !
Are you pilot?
@@john-darrenesterhuizen9008 unfortunately no
@@HarshGupta1347 If I may ask why didn’t you become a pilot?
sir i am going to star my CPL training soon. So any important advice for me i you could give.
How do pilots keep track of their hours?
Hi, I am thinking about attend Integrated CPL license. At 49 years old, I am worried that I may not get any pilot job when I graduate. Do you recommend students at my age to go for the course?
I've always wanted to know how fast plane goes when they're taxiing?
+Mentour Pilot Oh that's interesting they always looked like they were going a lot faster than that from afar. Thank you.
If i get my cpl here in the states, would i be able to apply for a job with an airline from Europe?
Hi there I was just wondering I've heard of this conspirary recently called chemtrails(and I have no idea what it's all about), I was just wondering what is this all about and what are your thoughts on it?, Thanks and another great video by the way
+Mentour Pilot No problem a video explanation from an experienced pilot would be most useful as I am very confused at the moment, thanks again for the reply
Chemtrails are just that, a conspiracy. They are not real, and never have been. What you see in the sky is called contrails, which are just clouds. The reason engines form clouds is because engines combust air and fuel, which results in H2O (water) and CO2 (carbon dioxide). At the altitude planes fly, it's around -50°C, so the extremely hot water vapours instantly freeze and form ice crystal clouds. The temperature, dew point, air pressure, winds and so on affect how long the contrails stay. That's why some planes will have extremely long lasting contrails while other planes on different altitudes/flight levels will have shorter and smaller contrails.
When i sign up for a cpl do i usually get my ppl with it?
If you have an ATPL, can you fly planes that are covered by CPL and PPL?
ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ yes.
Can I have a sole CPL without any ratings?
I had a question. will I able to fly an aircraft with an airline with a cpl as a two stripe (uniform) pilot?
+Mentour Pilot thanks
what are the subjects for cpl and atpl to study for written exams???
Plz let me know
harish vora You need to study meteorology, air law, navigation and general knowledge. Check the transport canada website for the study guide.
To get my cpl i need a certain amount of flying hours, does that mean i need to fly using my ppl in my own aircraft?
I wanna know that too... But the comment section seems to be dead.
Why do you need ATPL if you can fly airliners with CPL?
without an ATPL you cant become an airline CAPTAIN you will remain a First officer/ co-pilot
what is the difference between cpl and mpl
+Mentour Pilot thanks
Hi Peter, do you know if it is possible to become an EASA PPL flight instructor with just a PPL licence ? Or is CPL obligatory ?
Think you can but you won't be able to take any money for instructing without a CPL
Tim Morgan Thanks for the advise Tim 👍
hey mentor! do you need a PPL to get a CPL?
+Mentour Pilot ok thanks
Hii, i just love ur videos and iv SUSCRIBED ....i am from India and going for training in US after 2 months and ill stay there for 3 years until i get 1500 hrs done . I want a job in India so wer shall i give my Frozen ATPL in US or in INDIA and that school only offers CPL exam and not frozen ATPL and after that will i get a job in INDIA plsssss help me im worrried THank you n keeep making videos and motivating people !!!
and please how can they know that those flight hours logged are not false?
An authorized person such as the chief flight instructor will cross reference your logbook against your pilot training record and swear an oath that it is true. Ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure your logbook is accurate
Can we work as a co pilot in airline company with CPL ?
Isak Sadykov yes
Does CPL require class 1 medical?
juusojd Yes. You must have a Cat 1 medical for CPL and ATPL, which you must renew every 12 months (I should probably do mine soon). After 12 months if you have not renewed it it will become a Cat 3 medical.
am 16 and in India ! and I wanna be an airline pilot ! procedures are same as the us and UK @mentourpilot? is it necessary for me to have an engineering degree before going to flight school!

Hey guys am I also want to join ur conversation am starting my cpl training from next year in Florida

Yes
Can I wear glasses and have a CPL?
Yes you can but you will have to check with an Aeromedical examiner if YOUR eye deficiency is within limits. I wear glasses myself.
may harambe give me good fortune i am going to do my atpl
Sir, Is Dean INternational FLight trining school is good for CPL or not,PLease suggest me sir your views.
Why that background
Are you guaranteed a job if you go through an airline pilot program
Alex Lowell Yes, if you pass
Depends on the program and the criterias. For my case, I'm at MRU. If I get above 80% on my CPAER, I'm guaranteed an interview with Jazz (not job, just interview). So right now I'm pulling my hair out trying to decipher transport canada's wording of questions, because my test is coming up soon.
pilot saralery whow much
Can u become a pilot if you have tattoos ⁉️
+Enock Tafa well is the tattoo something obvious. Most ex-military pilots got tattoos on their arms and the airlines (at least in the US) could care less but if its a playboy girl on your entire arm you might as well and get it laser removal.
Enock Tafa depends on where the tattoo is and which airline you would want to work for. If you have a tattoo hidden under your uniform it’s normally no issue, if you wanted to work for example Emirates or other Muslim country based airlines you’d have to get it removed. I have tattoos and so for most of my friends and it’s no issue for us.
if only i could understand what you speak. not enough english
