Hi Nigel, Chelston here from Selangor, Malaysia. I followed your videos closely. Loved the dedication and work done on the plants. Keep up the good work. I have some questions regarding F. Religiosa. 1. Mine stayed dormant for a few weeks now after reporting. Drop off most of it's leaves and stayed dormant. How do i know if they will bounce back? There is always a doubt in my mind that i've killed it.
    2. Is it wise to grow plants directly in a small bonsai pot? Or is it best to grow plants in a deep pot during the first few years and then only repot it into a bonsai pot?

hi chelston cheah.Forgive me for jumping in. i would like to share a few thoughts regarding ur doubts . Iv just started adding up a few pots of f.religiosa . t q to our equatorial climate here in Msia which prompt this species to easily grow wild esp on concrete sidewalks oe wall. I personally think that it can bounce back to life provided thAt u dont overwater it as this could lead to the stem or main trunk n roots to decay.Initially do not Expose it directly under the sunlight ...as the buds appear u can slowly expose it. i regard This species as very durable n easy to grow. A small pinch scratch at the base of the trunk can be done to check its growth mechanism. if itsdark brown n rot...well its dying. if its green...theres hope. i believe a plant would grow well n vigorously with ample soil and other minerals they need. And naturally this is avaiable in the our Malaysian soil. Being said that, i impovised by placing my potted bonsai regardless of their pots size/ plant size (mame, medium or large) on hollowed concrete or 3" pvc pipes (for mame)or earthen drainage culverts (avaiable at hardewares). Now in these stilts / stand i would fill up with soil mixtures so my potted bonsai would sit on it and gradually over a year or two its roots would gain eccess protudibg below the pot. I foundout that thishelp to speed up growth and have a nice thick nebari. The only challenge is when i the time comes for me to repot it...but i can just ignore repotting it as long as they look good.
any way or other i think its ok to start off by growing them in pots regardlwss of size. im from Johor.

Any idea why it's called the French lilac? It's actually the common lilac and we have it everywhere across Europe.

Hello Mobalka, I am using a Canon R camera with a 35 mm F1.8 RF lens. I shot it in Canon C log and colour graded it. It gives a very cinematic feel to it!

I thought pruning shouldn’t be done this late….on deciduous trees/shrubs. Is there a reason to prune before leaf drop?
